    Christina, The 501st website has several audio loops for the different kinds of troopers - TK, sandtrooper, etc. The loop is radio chatter and sound effects giving the illusion that you're in "contact" with other troopers. The MP3 player is used to broadcast the loop. Just another way of creating a Star Wars-y environment during a troop.
