Looking good, man. I do notice you have a large return edge on the forearms. That's obviously fine if that's the way you like it but the screen-used suits had little or no return edge at the wrist openings and you may find you need to remove all your return edge to get your hand through comfortably. Is that maybe what you meant above?
If so, have no fear: the less return edge, the more screen-accurate (and easier to get on the arm).
I haven't really started trimming the return-edges properly yet. I'll get around to do that soon. What I mean was that they're too big overall. Both width- and length-wise. I'll aim for about 5 mm return edges once i start on that.
Thanks for the input!

Now I think I have some parts almost ready for sanding.
And these are the tools I've been using so far. Plus an ordinary pencil to mark cutlines. I think I've used the curved scissors about as much as the score-and-snap method. Both seam to have their advantages.
Sizing up myself against the untrimmed pieces I think I'll have to do some heavy trimming to get them down in size.

Acetone, strong one in big bottle, not the one for nails.
Cut the spare abs in very small pieces, put them in a glass jar and puor acetone until you sunk the pieces, let melt for a week, apply in layers and let them cure for some days each.
That's gonna take ages! but I guess it's worth it.

Woho! Gz Mathias! I'm still waiting on my shipment. Damn I envy you!
Thanks!
for that crack, i'd say make some ABS paste and use that instead of glue. once you start trimming, use your scraps for it...
I've thought of that as well. Need a reminder on what to melt the ABS with into the paste, though. I've got a box of scraps by now. I got pretty far on the rough trimming yesterday.

Hi
I just got my big brown box, and you know how it is.
So I'm starting with the rough trimming today and see how far I get.
Sorry about the poor photos, it's from my mobile phone, and ofc my hands were a bit shaky!
Here it is on my bed, straight out of the box.
Unfortunately this happened in transit. But I guess some E6000 will fix it!
Any tips and tricks are welcome, but I think most things are covered elsewhere
Cheers!

If you don't mind the extra work I'd say go for it!

I'm not sure. Never heard of it. I think the AT-AT helmet based on the TIE-fighter helmet (according to SW-helmets), so I think it would be a lot more work to convert a TK-helmet. Cool thought anyways!

ok im sry
No need to be sorry, just try to keep your hormones under control.

Welcome fellow swede!
Like you, I spend quite a long time reading up on things before introducing myself, and it has been wonderful ever since!
Good luck with your TM. I just got word that my TM is shipped and I hope to receive it this week or early next week.

hot?
Don't know. And this is not a proper thing to discuss.

GIRLS!?!?!? O_O
Well there is one girl over at nordic garrison, in Skåne, building a shadow trooper, but in Stockholm i don't know.
-
mathias when i do get mine (ca 8 months from now) will you help me trim and build it since i have no skill and cant think logicaly
That could be possible. We'll see when you get yours. but I'm sure there are many more experienced guys and possibly girls in the Stockholm area to help you out. I haven't even started yet. I've just read a whole lot of stuff here on the forums.

what do i have to do to get promoted? private is never fun
Post some more!

what if its to big! i dont want it wobbling around can you reduce the size?
Yeah, that is the trimming part of the build. You could also add foam pads on the inside to have the parts sit tighter on the the inside.

400 USD is unfortunately not enough for a full TM.
But I'm sure it would fit you once you got it without any trimming.

Hi Rolf, the sds blaster i am pleased with it , it has had some amendments ie the frount sight is more accurate , i have weathed it slightly happy with the scope and the hengstler counter and the main thing i am pleased with its nice and light so i feel it will be good for trooping , the only thing that dose bother me is the braket that holds the hengstler counter on to the rail could be a bit stronger , but i could mod this i will see how it gose need to get a lot of troops in to test it out. overal a nice blaster for money.
I just made the discovery that exactly that part you mentions, the one that holds the hengstler is metal. I've updated the topic on my SDS here.

Nice weathering, I should do that to my SDS blaster!

Here is something that you might find useful, it was written by a member of my garrison.....
When I went to send in my 501st application, I got really sick of having to sort through the list and find the available IDs, so this is a little program I wrote in C# that does it for you.The program accesses the online 501st roster, downloads it, and displays the untaken IDs, and some stats. If your internet goes down, the program will read from the backup file instead of the online list.Right now there are too many available IDs to fit on one screen, so it also gives you the option to save the results to a file. It will be saved as Available501stIDs.txt in the folder the .exe is run from. This is a very quick project so it doesn't have a lot of error catching or nice features, but it gets the job done. If there is a lot of support I may expand it to be better and offer it in the Detachment forums, etc.Make sure to Save rather than Runhttp://dl.dropbox.com/u/5722474/Available501stIDs.exeThis works well in linux with wine too! You just need to install the mono-for-windows library to run .NET code in wine. Just remember to run it in a terminal.
Good app!

I don't know why you can't have 5-digit numbers, but I do know that once you get your ID it stays with you the rest of your life. So you can't get the ID of an inactive member. It's theirs forever.

Getting softer pulls using ABS is a MYTH, the main difference is the gauge of plastic used, the thinner the plastic the sharper the details, if the machine is set perfectly to the type of plastic used the sharpness will be the same with any type of plastic used, I must say, ABS is harder to work with and requires industrial strenght forming machine to achieve sharp pulls.

Excellent! A word from the wise ones!
Meaning, If you know what you're doing, ABS is great. I personally think it would be the best for trooping. I don't own a armor yet, but I've read A LOT and base my opinions on what the collective here on FISD knows. I've also heard HIPS has the disadvantage to tear in some exposed corners unless proper care is taken. But I've also heard it's a minor issue, but it does seam to occur.
I'm happy to be corrected, because every time I do, I learn something new!
-
ABS has more rubber mixed into it. Which makes it more flexible, but also gives softer pulls (ie softer edges) when molding the armor. But HIPS from what I've heard needs painting to get that gloss look you may want from a stormtrooper. Unless you're aiming at a sandtrooper.

Good idea on trimming the inside elbow. I'm sure I'll end up padding the insides as well. Too bad I'm super skinny.
