NEW Detachment Leader Merchandise Officer CRL Updates Hall of Fame FISD Meme's Around the Detachment INFORMATION & AWARD PROGRAMS FISD Tri-Fold Brochure Common FISD Acronyms and TK Glossary Pre Approval Forum 3D Section Field Exercise Award Imperial Attaché Program Master Armorer Award Fire Teams EIB & Centurion: What do these terms mean? Need Help Ask the Deployment Officers Advance to 1500 Advanced Tactics Awards Newsletter Editor Staff List 2023 Follow FISD Greetings one and all to the August edition Well it finally happened, just after the last newsletter went live we received the approval for FISD's latest costume, the Artillery trooper, as seen in the Mandalorian! Congratulations go to Honeymustard TK-22540 (Logan Hole) of the Wisconsin Garrison for his great work and assistance in allowing us to add this great costume to the detachments growing library of colourful TK's ANH Hero upgrade In our ongoing quest to improve our existing CRL's the ANH Hero has received some treatment too. The space pack is now officially part of this CRL, and you guessed it, it will remain on the ANH stunt CRL as well. Recent discussions had the staff looking at some readily available behind the scenes images of the actor suiting up for the scene where you see 2 TK's external to the Death Star standing buy a gunnery turret. It is clearly seen he was wearing a Hero version of the TK costume, so staff voted to have it added where it belonged but to also keep it in the current Stunt CRL. This is a win for all. Rogue One TK update Since this CRL's inception, the incorrect type of gloves have been acceptable. We all know the ANH style rubber gloves were never used for this costume, so they are now no longer acceptable from basic level up. We have left Nomex and leather gloves as the basic option as they are closer to the First Order TK gloves but in all black. Of course you can have the accurate gloves at basic as well if you like. This was missed on the last major overhaul, but is finally as it should be. Yes I have harped on about the Commander Pyre CRL for a long time now, but we are getting close now. I recently spoke with the member (Dino) currently refining this costume and he has booked a photo session to get the last 4 photos done required to get this CRL complete for LMO review. I promise the next time you hear about it from me will be to announce it as green lit and open to legion. Don't forget our latest campaign Advance to 1500! If you have a TK and are considering the next level of approval, then check out our Expert Infantry program. Generally its only a few inexpensive mods to get you a step closer to screen accurate, you get a nice banner on your forum side bar, pride in the fact you reached a mile stone, and further more you help the detachment reach our milestone of more troopers looking the best they can. Yes there is also merch and even some exclusives only available to those who achieve this easy step towards accuracy. You will also be included in upcoming merch and more exclusive as we Advance to 1500. The 1500 unquestioned loyalty! With Unquestioned Loyalty James Silvius TK-12953 "jsilvius" Merchandise & Branding Officer Artillery Stormtrooper - The Mandalorian New CRL added to FISD's roster, Artillery Stormtrooper as seen in the series The Mandalorian has the green light form the LMO office and is live and ready to use. I would like to thank Honeymustard TK-22540 (Logan Hole) of the Wisconsin Garrison for his epic work CRL here Rogue One Update ANH Rubber gloves no longer accepted at basic, only Nomex and leather type, all other higher level requirements taken from Lvl 3 and moved to lvl 2 Expert Infantry. ANH Hero Update Recently we had a discussion and ran a members Poll on making a change to the OT ANH Stunt and Hero CRL's. After analysis of some old behind the scenes images, it was realised that the Space pack as seen in the film was actually worn with the hero version of this costume. The Poll asked should the Pack be removed from the ANH Stunt CRL and added to the Hero, or should it be allowed on both. The results were for the later so now we have officially added the Space pack to the ANH Hero so you can wear it with either of these costumes. There are a few minor stipulation as there already were in the Stunt CRL so it cant be worn worn with certain other accessories. The Space Pack falls under the accessories section and reads as below. With Unquestioned Loyalty Caleb Mask TK-73692 "MaskedVengeance" Attache Ambassador The FISD Master Armorer program is an optional, detachment only incentive award to recognize individuals who have directly helped another 501st stormtrooper to achieve Expert Infantry status. Some people spend countless hours helping others, and want to reward their results as well as incentivizing new people to help as well. To register a “win” in the program, the assistance must have provided hands-on help trimming, building, and/or fitting of said armor for the person who was awarded Expert Infantry status. More information can be found here Want to setup a "Fire Team? the Fire Team program is completely optional, and is intended to help form a common identity and spirit of camaraderie among 501st Legion Stormtroopers in the same geographic area/garrison that troop together. Fire Teams are not officially recognized by the 501st Legion nor the FISD, although they will be able to access a Fire Team sub-forum on the detachment website. You can find more information here. With Unquestioned Loyalty Mark Ryner TK-4584 "captsafe66" Fire Team Relations So what exactly are and levels? These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! You can find more information on the programs here. For those unaware it is possible to achieve extra awards at Expert Infantry for each additional version costume you have approved, additional awards are not issued with another Expert Infantry number (you are only issued 1 Expert Infantry number) but you will see a star above the award on your profile and the thread title will show [APPROVED] 2nd, [APPROVED] 3rd, [APPROVED] 4th and so on. Multiple EIB award recipients and info here NOTE If you are approved with a "2nd Version" of a particular costume that you are already approved with you do not receive an additional award, there is only 1 award issued for each costume version ie: only 1 x Hero, 1 x Stunt, 1 x HWT, 1 x ESB, 1 x TFA and so on. If you have a second/additional version costume approved you will see "2nd Version" and [APPROVED] added to the thread title, no additional profile stars (more info on profile awards here) For those of you who have a particular issue (or issues) before or after submitting for Expert Infantry / Centurion level approval, in order to get you an answer faster you can now privately contact the entire Deployment Officer team at one time! Questions about fitting, repairs, CRL standards/requirements or anything pertaining to reaching Levels 2 and 3 are not only welcomed, but encouraged. Hello everyone, My name is Aa-ron, I'm freshly 42 years old, and I've wanted to be more than a consumer at conventions/events for many years but didn't know where to start. Coincidentally, I just made an online friend who is part of the 501st out of Florida and after hours of questions and conversation about it, I would say I'm very interested in being a part of it. I live in Texas but my parents live in Florida, so I could see myself attending events in both areas. Anyways, I'm looking to put together either Sandtrooper or Magma trooper armor and carrying a DTL-19 or T-21. I'm about 6'1 and float around 290-300lb so any advice for a big Texas boy would be great I've already signed up on MEPD and look forward to learning more about all this. Glad to meet you all.3 points

Progress continued on my build yesterday! I was able to determine where the thigh armor best sits, so I took the measurements for the strapping that will connect the thigh armor to the front torso armor. I did the same for the shoulder armor. The straps themselves will be glued to the thigh and shoulder armor, with the connection to the shoulder strapping and front torso armor via snaps. The other pieces of the leg and arm armor will be worked out once I get the thigh armor and shoulder armor where I want them. The positioning of the bottom armor still needs work, and the thermal detonator will soon be glued into its holder as well! I also devised the best way to insert the spacers between the front and rear torso armor (it requires the use of the mirror)! I also devoted some attention to my belt. I have already discussed my painted-over Nerf gun, and I show the Nerf gun in the holster below (my attention to detail with weapons means I am pained by the holster not covering the trigger of the Nerf gun, but I will have to ignore that for now), but I also purchased a pouch that will hold my phone, wallet, and a compact for makeup touch-ups. There is a pouch armor piece that is currently being glued to this pouch. Both the pouch and holster have straps to connect them to the belt. The two halves of the belt will be held together via black elastic straps, and one of the snaps for the elastic can be seen on the inside of the belt. I am getting so close to completion!!!2 points

Alright, I've mulled over different kits and read the 501st databank guidance for both the shock trooper and ESB trooper. I'm going to go ahead and pull the trigger on the ESB kit I've been eyeing. I'd been thinking about this for a number of days before making this thread, so now that the pieces are coming together, I think it is time to commit!2 points

BBB day might come sooner than usual. I bought a completely untrimmed WTF kit that a long-time member of Walt's Facebook group offered for sale on that group (with Walt's permission). The package is already on its way!1 point

I guess I should have clarified, the Magma Trooper from Battlefront, which looks to be a part of MEPD. Thanks for all the welcomes y'all1 point

You can try reducing the return edge of your shoulder bells and upper armor, this way they won't be so narrow. On the other hand, it will depend on your GML, but there is too much gap between the kidney armor and the abdomen armor. I would also fix the paint on the buttons, some joints and improve a little the placement of some parts. Reference images There are "missing pictures" of important things, such as the helmet, the TD, to be able to tell you how far off are you from trooping... You're almost there, Eric!1 point

Roger that, the new ones look a little darker grey than green but according to the CRL: Lenses are a flat smoke or green sufficiently dark enough to obscure the costumer's eyes. So you should be fine1 point

Hi AA-ron, and welcome to FISD Please check out our Vendor list including those to avoid For the magma trooper you will need to join Spec Ops Detachment https://specops501st.com/ You can also check out this resource although you will find there are several differences between the standard Stormtroopers and the Sandies. These are the best resources to start on, as you learn and research for your new exciting projects. There is every possibility you will need to modify some parts of any armour kit you purchase to get it to fit you just right, but traditionally one of the larger kits is the AM kit from Daves Darkside Depot. Check him out on FaceBook as he has a online store. There are several makers who also do longer leg pieces but generally most kits suit a trooper from 5'9" to 6' https://www.facebook.com/100057527676820/about/ We are pretty active here compared to some detachment forums so feel free to ask plenty of questions. Welcome once again.1 point

UGH. TIP #3 - make sure I double check everything against the CRL. Thanks for calling that out. Back to the drawing board! Thank you!1 point

Hello all, it's been a while, between study and traveling for work I have been physically separated from my armour but finally back home now. Helmet is now repaired with a new hovi tip, unfortunately Glen the one I purchased from you was solid and not hollow so it would not fit over the speaker, this is my fault as I forgot to specify that. When I do eventually meet you and the rest of the garrison I shall return it to you so have your spare back. I purchased two spares from urkswrath which worked perfectly. I managed to fix my belt so the snap would engage with the other side, I didn't notice one side was slightly bent which prevented it from clipping on fully. My E11 which I purchased from Shear Tech in the UK should be arriving tomorrow, I am very excited to see it and Ill post some pictures of it when I can. All I need to do now is make some v tabs so the posterior doesn't stick out so much. It feels good to be home but there is no rest for the wicked1 point

I went ahead and contacted the Bloodfin Garrison with my questions. I'll let you all know what I find out!1 point

I was able to go back to the park and paint my boots today! I'd say it is a good start, but I am not quite satisfied yet. I am very happy the paint is adhering to the sides of the soles, but I expected the paint to cover the fabric better than it did. I should have figured this would happen with faux suede. I talked over these results with a friend that is more familiar with fabric painting, and she recommended I use white shoe polish to provide better coverage and smooth out the suede. I am not trying to preserve the suede, as I care more that the boots are a consistent shade of white, so this seems like a good way to proceed. The suede and tan color on these boots was a comprise anyway. I could not find a pair of white women's boots in my price range that was both large enough for my feet (10.5 in men's, but 12 in women's) and did not appear like it was meant to be worn by a drag queen (I'd buy those boots if I wanted to be a drag queen, but it's not the look I am going for, even though I am technically dressing in drag with this build). As such, I bought the boots I bought, and they are quite comfortable too! We'll see how the shoe polish works.1 point

This is super helpful! Although I am aiming for Level 1 certification, I did not think about the differences at this level of detail. Thank you! I think it would be best for me to go ahead and contact the Bloodfin Garrison and ask their thoughts, especially given the discretion the GML has. A good amount of my excitement over this today is that I have seen approvable ANH/ESB armor in my price range. The ROTJ armor seems harder to find. When it comes down to it, having an approved stormtrooper with the 501st is a little more important to me than that stormtrooper specifically being a shock trooper. Also, now that I know some folks convert their costumes over time opens up more possibilities! I thought my FEM7 would be the only stormtrooper costume I would make, but here I am taking about another build, so the future is full of new opportunities!1 point

You’re spot on. The actual armor on ANH and ESB kits are the same, other than the differences you already mentioned. Therefor an ESB could be used for a Shock conversion. If I might pose a suggestion, you could start with an ANH Stunt, then convert to ESB (or even and ANH Hero), then finally to a Shock. And before the Shock you could even do a HWT! And in regards to the helmet, ESB differences are purely cosmetic. Same bones. Basically just change the frown paint. For higher levels of ESB approval you’ll also need decals on the helmet rather than hand-painting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Yeah, I may try and ask someone who has info about the screen used helmets in Kenobi about that backing. If you're interested in updated files, I've actually modified Nico's files to try and get them a bit more accurate, and I'm working on a new build now Here's my new build post:1 point
