Behind the scenes: EP IV Special edition 1995

Not sure if everyone has seen this video before (I hadn't seen this until I stumbled across it today) but all I needed to hear was something about "walking through the Lucasfilm archives and finding these stormtrooper costumes in a crate"... and my heart skipped a beat...

Pretty awesome footage if you haven't seen this before. Even though the "un-crating" is only a few seconds long, it was still cool to see it. Also, one guy gets the best job ever as an extra on the set - suit up in the desert to go trooping with Navy Seals. :)

The sad fact is:

That guy who claims to have found the "original" suits in that archive garage is completely and utterly wrong. Those trooper suits were anything but original (maybe ROTJ) and look nothing like the original Sandtroopers in the film.

They are ROTJ recasts and the details are completely off. They stick out like a sore thumb in the added Dewback scene and it doesn't take an obsessed fan to clearly see that.

IT was a half assed attempt to improve the original film, like most of the other Special Edition additions/changes.

i want to get into that garage so bad right now :D

Oh Yeah!!! :D

That was a cool clip. I dont care to much about the SE suits being ROTJ based. A good way to point out armor evolution to the kids.;)

Actually if Star Wars were real, why couldnt there be parallell armor versions btw? Like the hero/stunt versions.

Hey man on the way to join you soon. :P that video was great! And the guy was saying that the suits were the ones they used for the reshoot not for ep, IV. I really like the fact that they have the wonky troops in that scene, it just makes the "real" TK look so much cooler some how. Great video thanks for the link, although you'd think that there would be better streaming from the official site, nothing linked up on the vid.

I dont know about you guys but i LOVE the SE/ROTJ suits. I guess because when I was a kid I had the old REBEL ASSAULT 2 game and the stormtroopers in the video clips of that game were using the same armor. This was before i watched any of the movies, so that game was basically my first introduction to star wars.

I had the game also! Actually, the game was pretty nice, and quite a new approach to the action shooter genre with the INSANE (INteractive Streaming ANimation Engine) developed by Lucasarts. And I simply loved the live action cut scenes! I guess it was the first time since ROTJ that one got to see an accurate suit in a video..

I don't know...it still seems really neat that the one guy (never did learn his name) got to live out his fantasy and be in the "remastered" EP IV. But it is also cool to see the inside of the backpacks they had to remake...hollow vacuum molded items. For those who are talented that way (I'm not) you might pick up some great ideas....hmmmmm.
