MisserCraig Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 So i'm trying to attach the front of my FX helmet to the back of it with the screws through the ears. these nylon lock nuts the kit came with don't screw down nearly far enough to keep the ears snug against the lid. am i doing something wrong? TK7903[501st] Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 I'm guessing they are sealed domed nuts and bottoming out before you can tighten them? How about using washers? Or upgrading the nuts to steel nyloc nuts. Quote
Scott M.[TK] Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 Probably just need to work thru the nylon. The nuts are designed to hold tight, so you have to screw thru the nylon. My suggestion is to keep going, even though it feels like you bottomed out. I have those same screws on my FX, and have used these type of screws many times in the past. It is a wierd set up if you have not used them before. Hope this helps, Quote
Darth_Nickel Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 I used a pair of pliers to hold the nut really tight. You should then be able to keep screwing. It takes some effort and feels like it's done, but you can keep on going. Also be sure you have the nut on correctly (facing the correct direction - made that mistake the first time too) Quote
john danter Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 Take the nut/bolt out and see how far it can go down. Like people have said it 'feels' like it's bottomed out but that's the whole idea of them. They lock Work out how far it goes down and then you'll see. In theory the nut should go down to the bolt Ian's suggestion of washers is a good un too Quote
