So, bit more progress today. Power cylinders done, flash guard, ejection port guard and sights fitted. Also chopped up the scope ready to hollow out...just need to pick some spade bits up today so I can get that sorted this weekend hopefully. Should then only have the Hengstler to finish before I start chucking some paint at it 722d623e3b8bae9c534807aa4876381b.jpg6d44c6c4d48b0bab01108cee4689821b.jpgd65beaf2590fc231d0f9281f0065fb00.jpg30d92370a9c3afc539afac3b797ee6f1.jpg4693fa114b5e7f4b51462b80096b50ba.jpg38aa102f6343045dc7a3f5512ca14385.jpg

Made a start on the scope this afternoon. Managed to fit both front and rear lenses but my drill died before I could hollow out the main body...typical! . Will see if I can get it finished tomorrow.3b625180c7c89529e9106f8478e48e13.jpg

Looking good mate! I wasn't quite brave enough to chop the ends off the scope at that stage of my build, think its definitely the best way to go to hollow it out, mines a bit sketchy. There's always my the next build I guess ;)

Thanks Tom! Quite pleased with it so far...hope the rest of it goes smoothly! Now that my armour has arrived I’ve got a new found fervour to get the blaster finished and get on with it! Did u have a look at my power cylinders? Do they look ok?

I know the feeling!

Power cylinders are looking great. Is the the "A" shape you've gone for? Just one thought though, if you've got some green stuff left you could fill in the gap around the 3 Alu cynlinders (where they slot through)... if that makes sense. I used a wet flat head screwdriver to get into the tight places and smooth it out, then did the rest with a file when dry

Well spotted mate! Never noticed the gap tbh. I’ve got some more green stuff on the way as I ran out...I’ll sort it once it arrives...thanks for pointing that out

Quick question for the scope gurus out there...how do I get the image thru the scope the right way up? I have the the two lenses fitted but when I look thru them both together the image is upside down. Anyone know how to rectify this please?

As far as I know, a few people (myself included) have tried this already but nobody ever managed to solve it - so far...

A guy once fixed the upside-down-issue, but still had the image mirrored left to right.

I also used the two prisms from the monocular but had no success. Went to an eyewear optician and he also had no idea.

If you find a way, please let us know :D

Hmm, not a problem I had before, but could it be something to do with your smaller lens? I noticed that you didn't remove it from it's housing, which could possibly be causing the image to flip. I think there are two small monocular lenses in there, I cut open the housing to get one of them and installed that into the scope.

I've tried to find a couple of pics that might help show you what I mean. So the first is the small lens in the housing, and the second is only the small, single glass lens installed in the scope

But like I said, not a problem I've come across before, even on other people's builds. So if you're keen to keep the housing for the smaller lens, I'd wait to see what others say before getting the axe out!0c0673f09c3327299c70cb4b75176039.jpgd047a7f52b42f3f6b18dbacc18c21891.jpg

Reasonable thinking, Tom. Unfortunately the 2nd lens is to compensate pillow- / barrel-distortion. Here is that section, copied from my last build:

Also thought about integrating the prism(s) but a convex lens turns the image upside down and left to right. Hoped that a 2nd lens (see arrangement in the monocular) would revert this effect. But these are used to compensate pillow- / barrel-distortion.

Wasted several days researching and trying every possible combination with lens(es) and prism(s). No luck. As a last chance I grabbed some scopes plus monoculars and went to my eyewear optician. Result: with the given hardware, there is no way to get it working correctly and I was not willing to spend a little fortune to try and error. At least there is light shining through that scope and the lenses make it look somewhat real.

Thanks for the replies guys! When I chopped the monocular down one of the smaller lenses dropped out anyway but I decided to keep the other in the housing for ease of fitment. I’m not planning on using any of the prisms...way too complicated for me! I suppose at the end of the day, if I get a view/light thru the scope it won’t be too bad a result?

I agree, mines not hollowed out that well and you certainly can't see anything clearly through it at all. But just catching that bit of light through it makes it seem so much more real!

Scope hollowed out! Got a bit too close to the bottom wall with the spade bit so will need to sort it with green stuff when it arrives. Also dig a hole out of the top to drop the cross hair lens in. Just need to paint the inside now then all being well I can put it all back together 422bfa3f9f8fe9816d04186b70853fce.jpgd59acbaad1b2afbeeffe29cee8206308.jpgf9b8693eb8a276e4f73f1a8012f667d0.jpg

In a finished scope, the tiny engraving of the cross hair lens can only be seen clearly, when it has the correct distance to the big lens. Otherwise the magnification effect won't work and you will not be able to spot anything. A good distance can be derived from the assembled monocular. In other words, it's best to put your cross hair lens straight onto the small end of that conical cylinder, holding the big lens. Please see last picture below.

Ahh....I’ve done mine differently then. I held the large lens fairly close to my eye then measured the distance between the end of the cone to where the crosshairs lens was focused. I suppose it means with mine u have to get right down on the scope to see it. I’ll check it again when the paint is dry before I commit...thanks Tino

Quick update. New scope rail arrived from Tino, scope finished with screws added to the front and Counter numbers added. I think I’m finally almost ready to start chucking it all together 15dc0d3987ee42ad9192a9bf89469075.jpg304563fb39f728c143ac973451d054c9.jpg

Thanks Jesse...although I can’t take credit for them myself. Dan did them first and kindly sent the file so I could print them off. Looking forward to getting it together and finished.
