Scott M.[TK] Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 OK, this is to get a date for the SW Weekends at Walt Disney World. Please only vote if you WOULD be planning to go. I will schedule the house based on the date that will work for the most people. Once that is set, I can use that number to determine costs. Once I can start getting people to commit, I will pay the deposit and start planning. Here is a link to the location I found, but I am totally open if other people have other ideas. Florida rental link I have set the poll to run through the 15th of February. As soon as I get 6 "commits" to either date (or both), I will book a place so we do not lose out on a place to stay. PM or post here with questions.
Scott M.[TK] Posted January 31, 2008 Author Report Posted January 31, 2008 So we have at least 4 people committed to going. Anyone else? I have been in contact with a few troopers from Florida, and it sounds like we will be exposed to a lot of troopers from all over. Dave over on the MEPD forum said that there was a group from Japan last year that came over brought everyone shirts. Now I am not promising anything like that, but it sounds like a great time and a lot of community with your fellow trooper.
TK_Margarita Posted February 6, 2008 Report Posted February 6, 2008 Scott, any word on this? Do you have any date planned? I am tempted, but "real life" might prevent me from making a trip like this - I hate it when "real life" interferes with Star Wars! Maybe not, though.

Well, as the poll shows, it looks to be the first weekend. I should also ask what people are willing to pay for two nights in Orlando. I am going probably no matter what, and I have a local member who is also interested. Real life can wait, we are talking about Star Wars Weekends at Disney World!!!!

kiyotei[TK] Posted February 6, 2008 Report Posted February 6, 2008 I gotta ask, isn't it really hot and humid in Orland in the summer? How do you wear armor all day and not die from heat stroke? I've been there in the summer and its brutal. Or do you spend most of the time inside?
Scott M.[TK] Posted February 6, 2008 Author Report Posted February 6, 2008 I gotta ask, isn't it really hot and humid in Orland in the summer? How do you wear armor all day and not die from heat stroke? I've been there in the summer and its brutal. Or do you spend most of the time inside? Here is what I got from Dave Young over on the MEPD. I won't sugar coat it, so here is his comments un-edited: Scott, OK. First know this- It's going to be HOT!! I mean 110 degrees with armor on. Just be ready! Secondly, you'll have to show up 2 hours before the parade, as they have dogs sniff your belongings, then you dress out, and then you wait for another hour. You troop for 15 minutes, they give you your passes (2), and you undress, take your bins back to your vehicle and enjoy the rest of the day. Whew! A house just might be the way to go. Especially if you can have others help you in paying for it. I know the FL Garrison usually goes out for lunch and dinner afterwards. Trying to get 5 squads together is tough! All troopers are welcome to join of course! I'd love to meet up with other troopers from around the world over a cold beer! Bring ANYTHING that you want to sell or trade. Last year some troops from the Japanese Garrison brought free shirts for everyone! How cool is that?! I sold a lot of MEPD patches and decals last year, and plan on doing the same thing this year. We should know more on the definitive dates here. The mouse has set the dates for June 6-29. Nothing definitive yet, however we have troops that work for the mouse, and they're saying those dates are just about right on. I'm looking forward to going this year and seeing some familiar faces. LMK if you have any other questions! This may seem daunting, but I am not backing down. Sounds like a blast, and I am all geeked up to go!!!
Lizzeh Posted February 6, 2008 Report Posted February 6, 2008 Ohh I'd love to do this, but it'd have to be another year for me unless I get my stuff sorted asap. Hope you all have a blast though
TK_Margarita Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 So I was just checking out the WDW site and I'm not finding a schedule for SWW. Is the parade we would be in on Saturday? What time? Like noonish? So that we have to be at the park at like 9am? I'm just wondering so I can start to think of how I can get there, when to fly down, when to return, that kind of stuff. "Real life" be damned!
Scott M.[TK] Posted February 7, 2008 Author Report Posted February 7, 2008 As I understand it, the parade is on Saturday, and is between 9 and 10 am. I am not 100% sure, but that is what i have been able to determine. My plan is to fly down Friday night, and return home Sunday evening. We would get 2 park passes for our efforts, so we get Saturday and Sunday in the park if we want.
kiyotei[TK] Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 Any way to know if all of your suiting up and waiting time is inside in the comfort of AC? I'm surprised it only takes 15 mins to march the full parade route. But perhaps all the characters have heat issues so they have to keep it real short so their employees don't die of heat stroke.
