How to drill symmetric pipe holes?

I use a tapered stepped drill bit, it's not as fierce as a normal drill bit, just make a small guide hole first, gently does it the more you rush the more you will stuff a hole up. Good luck

It takes more time to set up and layout than it does to drill the holes that's for sure. There are some templates around somewhere you can use to line them up along the barrel. Basically once you locate all your hole locations zap a small pilot hole in each. Then use a unibit (tapered/stepped drill bit) to drill each one slowly. No need to have the drill spinning at top speed.

:o NNNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! A forstner bit will tear it apart. Those are not designed to be used on curved surfaces. Mark your drill hole locations. Drill your first round of holes with a 1/8 + or- bit as a guide hole. This will help you zero in exactly on your mark. The bigger bit will find its own way into this smaller hole and pretty much guide itself. But please use standard conic tipped bits. (not brad point bits either)

A unibit is your friend (otherwise known as a stepped drill bit)

Pilot holes... pilot holes... pilot holes.
