m38 scope base removal

here's a photostrip showing how to remove the base on a real m38 or m40 scope.

this removes the base mount used on the tank.

release pin first by prying the wire off the set brackets

the hinge might need pressing from the other side with a pin and a hammer.

(mine came off easy)

so it's release pin first then pull out hinge.

hope this helps people who get a scope with a mount attached.

I sure wish I had known how to do this. took only a few moments of my time to figure out. but I've tried to explain it before

this is a pretty good photo example of part of the steps needed to remove the base 2 part mount.

sometimes the secondary mount can cause trouble.

that will be covered later in this series of mount removal photos.

yep.. if you release the pin spring, it will swivel down. the hinge allows complete separation.

if you remove that.

some scopes have very tight screws beyond this step.

the clip is the only thing you need to bend out of place or cut.

I just bent the clip till it came off.

nothing is cut... it just comes apart when you release the pin and the hinge.

I managed to unscrew those 2 screws. But nor oil, nor WD-40 penetrated the tight thread. So I used my Bosch drilling machine with a screwdriver connector and unscrewed them. No way these could have been unscrewed by bare hands and a screwdriver, unless Hercules or Superman were around :D No damage to the screws or anything else. :D
