Solcar23[TK] Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 What size styrene sheets do i need to make my snap plates? Planning a trip to the hobby store. ;-) Also I'm waiting for an ATA ABS kit to be ready and am not sure if it will come with extra ABS sheets to accomplish both the plates and the finishing strips for the arms and legs. If it does come with enough extra plastic then I won't waste my time and money buying any styrene. Anyone with experience with ATA ABS kits would be helpful. Quote
SCTrooper[TK] Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 congrat's on your up coming build! ATA comes with plenty of xtra abs, so don't worry. Quote
Solcar23[TK] Posted January 6, 2012 Author Report Posted January 6, 2012 Roger, Roger! Thanks Saves me a trip! Quote
darksideemt Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 yes it comes with plenty of extra ABS but I would not use that for snap plates or the inside strips. Just go to Walmart or something and get the thickest "for sale" sign they have. The abs is too thick in my opinion for the snap plates or inside strips. Quote
Solcar23[TK] Posted January 6, 2012 Author Report Posted January 6, 2012 Will do! That sounds like a cheaper alternative, although the styrene sheets .40 are only 5.99. I suppose the For Sale sign is probably .99 cents! Thanks Travis! Quote
Solcar23[TK] Posted January 6, 2012 Author Report Posted January 6, 2012 BTW: Won't the strips from the For Sale sign be too short to use for inside strips? Quote
darksideemt Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 the thickest one they had was big and cost like $2. it was long enough for all the strips. just remember to rough the armor and the sign up good with some 60 grit paper. Quote
Solcar23[TK] Posted January 6, 2012 Author Report Posted January 6, 2012 You got it! Thanks my friend!! Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 cover the back of the snap with duct tape. if glue touches a snap it creates heat. Quote
captsafe66[Admin] Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 That is a great tip! Do you need to remove the printing from the signs prior to glueing?? Thanks for the tips. Quote
Solcar23[TK] Posted January 6, 2012 Author Report Posted January 6, 2012 Good question! Thanks Vern, will do! Quote
