You're definitely wasting time at Bunnings John. For E-6000 (keep araldite away from plastic) you'll need a jewelry store or hobby shop. Humbrol is also only available at hobby shops.

Of course both are freely available online if you're ok with the wait for delivery...

Better to wait for the E6000. Perhaps one of the local 501st members has some they can lend you.

As for telling left from right, as I recall there really is no difference - they are symmetrical. I marked them as such simply for convenience as I was doing the assembly.

Hmmm..freely you say? ;) I think I could wait for delivery, I've already spent about $500+ more than I thought I would spend.. :P and waited so long I might as well wait a bit more.

Besides, now that I have my armour (and I have to finish my blaster still) I think I might as well keep trimming and stuff until I have the right glue and paints.

Thank god! I was afraid I had maybe matched up the wrong sides together and cut wrong. :o But that's good that they are the same. :)

Ok I think I have trimmed down the forearm enough..although the gap between the armour and the inside of my elbow is still a bit big, and there is a bit of a..gap? at the elbow end of the forearm. (see below) Does that matter or will the finishing strips cover that anyway?

Is that too big a gap?

Ok. :) What about the forearm? Should I maybe trim a bit more from the inner part? It can be trimmed at the elbow end a bit, but if I trim the wrist end anymore I will never get my hand through (I've taken the return edge off and I can still only just get my hand through).

I'm making some finishing strips at the moment, is it ok if they are about 14.5 mm thick? Cos the plastic strips that came with my kit are about 88mm so I can't get six 15mm strips from that, only 5 and then a 13mm strip.

Ok, I got a bit done today. smile.gif I am now satisfied with the left bicep and forear. They fit nice and snug while still being comfortable, and as soon as I get some glue I will glue them together. Currently they are masking taped and clamped together.

I have also started cutting the finishing strips, seeing as I have decided to use the butt-seam method. I am using the ABS strips that come with the AM kit to do these. So yeah, I might be able to find time tomorrow to do the right forearm and bicep, hopefully. smile.gif

The strips are marked LFA (left forearm) RFA (right forearm) LBC (left bicep) and RBC (right bicep). The words will be on the glue side, so they don't matter. I did this because I was getting confused as to how many I needed. Now I know which ones are going where.

Forearms look fine as is from what I can see. The extra room will actually allow you to bend your arm without your inner forearm flesh being uncomfortably squeezed.The slight misalignment at the elbow end will be covered by a finishing strip, the important thing is that the two halves meet up properly at the wrist. 14.5mm is also fine - no one is going to give you crap for being 0.5mm too narrow, especially when the trade is it makes for a more efficient use of a limited resource (those being the extra ABS strips).

@tkrestonva

Alright, sweet. :) I bent my arm when I had the pieces on in that photo, and with the undersuit on I think it'll be fine. The edges meet fine at the wrist, although I think the sides are different widths.

At the elbow end, one side is 3cm from the start of the curve, and the other is 2.5cm. I should try to correct that shouldn't I? It's not really noticeable though, especially when I am wearing it.

So I guess only I will really notice it, and I don't really wanna risk trimming any more off..so I might leave it. Like I said, you can barely notice the difference when it is on.

@Julie

PM sent. :) Thanks heaps for this!! :D

(everyone here is so awesome! :))

Also, in this photo you are not quite wearing the bicep correctly. Spin it on your arm 90 degrees, such that the thumbprint is facing the camera in the photo. For a visual, take a look at the photos of my arm armor.

Made a few more cover strips just now. I have enough for the left bicep and forearm, and will cut the right bicep and forearm ones when I get home after work tonight. :)

I think it is coming along nicely. :) Both biceps and forearms finished (although I think I may fix a few little edges and stuff) and my helmet was done ages ago. Now..where to go on to? The shins? The thighs? Oh the possibilities!...

'm a tad worried about how I have done the first shin. I feel I amy have cut it a bit lopsided, and I can't really correct it because as it stands the back can barely connect when I have my boots on...See how it also looks a bit lopsided? I don't think it's meant to look like that, and it has me worried. What should I do? :/

Looks OK to me. For accuracy, consider trimming away the return edge at the ankle. It'll also give you more room at the ankles and/or allow you to tighten them down even further. I'll be doing the same to my shins later this week.

Since you have started building your shins, keep in mind that AM shins have a design defect (they are mismatched) that fortunately can be corrected during the build process. If you haven't already (and looking at what appears will be the left shin it looks like you've already seen it) have a look at Roguetrooper's AM shin build tutorial. It'll save you some headache later.

  • 3 weeks later...

So I haven't done much recently, I went on schoolies for a week and have only just gotten back into the mindset to continue my armour.

All I've done is glue one side of the inner and outer cover strips to the left forearm. I got so frustrated trying to atach the inner piece to the cover strip on the outer piece, but eventually I got it. I also smashed two magnets. >.> Which is annoyig because they were very expensive.

I'm also a bit worried about how I am going to get the other side together, I may have to bend the cover strips or something, I can't reall see how else I am going to do it.

Yeah I have definitely stuffed the forearms and possibly one of the shins. >.> I've cut way too muhc off one part and not enough off of the other, and this means the cover strips can't be glued on properly. >.< I can post pics of the problem if need be.
