  1. I did something similar with a piece of wood. Worked like a charm to flatten the plastic tab around the snap base so that it could be more easily glued to the back of the armor.
  2. I just wanted to say that you're doing a great job on your Commander Cody!
  3. That's funny! She needs to trim the chest plate though as it's completely covering up the ab plate.
  4. I'm also using the Aker voice amp behind my chest plate. It works well, but care has to be taken with volume settings and positioning the mic in the helmet to avoid feedback. The wires are a little bit of a hassle, as they have to go underneath the underarmor, then come back up behind the armor to the back of the chest plate. One big plus with the Aker is that it holds a charge for a long time and the batteries are rechargeable, so you just have to plug it in recharge it before each troop without having to worry about changing out batteries. What I'm curious about is whether anyone has taken an Aker apart and been able to place the electronics in the helmet with mike tip speakers.
  5. While ABS cement makes a very strong & permanent bond, it can leave slightly visible bends in the ABS plastic from heating/melting the ABS as it forms the seal. Though not as permanent a bond, the E6000 doesn't have the same potential for melting the ABS plastic. For that reason, I voted for E6000.
  6. This is a totally awesome stormtrooper! You did a fantastic job! I'd love to see this get approved.
  7. Daetrin, I love the new look & feel of the FISD website. Way to go!
  8. I agree that gluing looks better. When it comes to the shins, I decided on the industrial Velcro on both seams so that I won't have any problems with flexing the pieces to get them on & off. I can slide the forearms on & off (from what I can tell by holding them together), but it's harder to slide them off than on. A friend of mine is redoing part of his armor and replacing the Velcro that he used on the forearms with glue. The disadvantage with gluing the forearms is that you can't keep the hand plates on the gloves: the forearms won't slide over them. Right now, I'm leaning towards gluing at least one side of the forearms (the top), then use industrial Velcro on the bottom seam. I'm gluing the biceps on both seams and plan to do the same with the thighs. What I'm not yet sure about is how much I will need to trim the thighs.
  9. That is what I'm thinking about doing. Has that worked out well for you?
  10. I am in process of putting together my first set of FX armor. I decided to use industrial velcro for my shin pieces. While I don't have large feet, I found that I cannot slide the shin pieces on and off as some people can, so I decided to use velcro for both the back & front seams. So far, works great. I do plan to glue the bicep pieces and thigh pieces. I'm still deciding whether to use glue, velcro or a combination on the forearms.
