  1. If anyone would like a walk threw on how to do this i say ask TM he's the man i bug the hell out of when ever i have a trooper question he's lucky i dont have his phone number

Yeah your a real pain in the butt plate sometimes  (j/k)

Chazz your helmet looks great and will look even better with the eyes trimmed back.Mine is weathered exactly the same as the original and has since lost more paint here and there as it is peeling off.I just touch up the areas with more beige and make it look more weathered.Get some more pics up mate,I for one would love to see them and I'm sure others would too :D

  2. The belts are made from poly webbing and about 2" wide.I have lots of photos that I took of the tour suit in London at the Barbican center in '99 (I think :P ).It was a bit battered but so was the other one I saw in Sheffield which was the one that was sold at Christies in '97.The tour suit's were made from same moulds as the original ROTJ moulds, though some are definately bad recast's especially the one on show at Disney.

The butt plates are the same as ANH really, just formed as one piece with the kidney plate. The corners of the kidney are rounded off and the butt only looks rounded off due to the vinyl edging.

Also, notice how the armour is squashing where Han is grabbing it in the screen shots...very soft and flexible if you ask me.

  3. Hi,

The shoulder straps on the original ANH armour are just for decoration as the real straps are under the armour. The plastic straps are just glued to the chest plate and are only held in place with a rubber/elastic band on the back plate.Check out my armour below and also see the rivets, there were lots used on the real movie suit's ;)

  4. Good idea Simon :D

I've tried riveting the snaps to the belt but it always fouls when I try and snap the other half.I think the problem is that I'm using small snaps like the one's that were used on the original '77 armour,I'm sure the bigger 'camping' style snaps would do the job.I think I'm gonna make a new belt now and add the snaps to a single layer like you suggest, before I sew them together.I'll just have to make sure I get the placement right to fit the snaps on my ab plate ;)

    Oh yeah,welcome over here Si!

  5. Hi Paul,

I would say wanting to be a stormtrooper is enough to join this forum,or any other for that matter. You can gather all the information you need before you get a set of armour and we will all help you out as much as possible :D

    Welcome aboard trooper!

  6. You could try different glues on scrap ABS and test their adhesion that way.In my experience E6000 is awesome. As long as you sand the plastic first and apply the E6000 to BOTH parts and leave until touch dry (5 mins) and then bond both parts together you should have no problems. It's flexible too so takes a beating :D

I've used CA/superglue and it's useless for armour IMO.It dries like glass and doesn't allow any flexing and pops apart with any stress on the joins.

I use E6000 for glueing elastic straps to my armour and it's held up fine. When I made a mistake once with a strap and needed to take it off,it took some doing I can tell you :P

  7. Here's a pic of my current canvas belt. What I did was use thin canvas and wrap it around 3" wide elastic to give it some girth. The ends have velcro the same width as the belt and the same length as the strip on the kidney plate which is what the overlap should be (or there about). The plastic front panel is riveted in place and plastic caps cover the heads. The holster is also riveted to the belt in the same way as the movie suit's.I still have yet to add the snaps on the inside to fix the belt to my ab plate but I need to find some way of fixing them on as they are not long enough to fix through the thick belt.Anyhow, you should be able to make an accurate canvas belt looking at this pic but you might want to just use a few layers of canvas and sew them together to make it thicker.
