some electronics help...
Daric LaRone replied to Daric LaRone's topic in Electronics for Helmets / Blasters
Yeah, I guess I should've asked, "is it normal for the battery to get super-hot". I guess I wanted to be relatively sure that the 9V wasn't going to explode inside my bucket. That might ruin a troop. I often end up PMing Smitty... perhaps he'll see this thread... -
OK, so I got my Radio Shack 12VDC fan and wired it up to my 9V battery... problem is the battery got so hot I could barely touch it. Diagnosis? Thanks for any help.

whoa, but Neil, you're at 666.... EVIL! LOL Smitty, you know what was weird on Clone Empire? If you typed any word in "Mando'a" it changed it to some let's just say not so nice words.

"Ho, ho, ho, ho...." "I know that laugh." The second most famous "ho, ho, ho" in the galaxy. (adapted from a piece in Star Wars Insider magazine)

Troopers helping troopers indeed. One more for me. The amazing thing about most all those thousands of posts (like Terrell's for example) is that you won't find any like, "I agree." or "Great lid." They always contain something meaningful. Same with Paul's. Inspiring.

My Incenerator Trooper (Pic heavy)
Daric LaRone replied to dorsk88's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
AHA! Good news then! Thanks Billy! Tim, we might be on to something here... I also found this stuff on Walmart.com http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?...roductDetail.... I might go take a look today. I also might get Mike's opinion on offering a kit. Mike, are you reading this or are you busy making those awesome personalized t-shirts! I told my garrison mates all about them... Thanks Billy- you're full of great ideas! Typical Brit. (is "Brit" OK to say?) -
My Incenerator Trooper (Pic heavy)
Daric LaRone replied to dorsk88's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Tim, good find. The only problem with this is that it says they're permanent. I'd be looking for some I can take on and off. If something like that exists! -
There's a great padding they use in kids' baseball helmets at WalMart and Target;works great for me. It's super-comfy and the helmets are only $10-$15!

My Incenerator Trooper (Pic heavy)
Daric LaRone replied to dorsk88's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
I too have to say that I thought those images were of a new 12 inch figure. Amazing. Great work. Where does one pick up decent vinyl sticker material I wonder? -
Happy 05/01 brother troops! Take a minute to be thankful for this great universe that Uncle George created; and this incredible hobby/obsession/charitable organization so many helped to create and sustain: Albin, Terrell (Supertrooper), Paul (Daetrin), all of the countless costumers, armor makers, fans, and troopers, and so many others. It's really quite amazing if you think about it; which I'm sure many of you do! Long Live the Legion!!! Peace, Derek TK9254

Yeah, CTN is probably the best place. CloneEmpire is no more I'm told. See ya over there!

Walmart voice changer?
Daric LaRone replied to TK-7828's topic in Electronics for Helmets / Blasters
Sounds like the SCOTT repirator voice amp might be a good option for your set up. You will get additional advice on how to eliminate feedback from the the tech experts here shortly... -
nomex gloves?
Daric LaRone replied to 2155TK's topic in FISD Expert Infantry Badge (EIB) Requirements
Smitty, If you bring a couple pair to our next mutual troop for me to try on I'll buy a pair from you. How do I approximate what size Nomex will fit me? Thanks. -

I'll probably do that. Thanks Kris. -
TK9254 requesting EI status
Daric LaRone replied to Daric LaRone's topic in Request Expert Infantry Status
All points well taken. Thanks brothers. And all fixable things I think/hope. You're right- I used left over belt pieces for the side gaps and yes, they do look un-Imperial. I'm thinking of using one piece of thinner plastic that also matches the armor... making it one piece somehow. Or losing 100 lbs. I will reposition shoulder bells and drop boxes. I will also widen the canvas belt; probably start from scratch. My assistant put the td on. Manny suggested that the muzzle is turned 180 degrees the wrong way. I think he's right. Can someone confirm please? Thanks. Seriously thanks for the constructive tips. If anyone sees anything else please let me know. "Into exile, I must go. *Failed*, I have." Just kidding. "I"ll be back..." -
TK9254 requesting EI status
Daric LaRone replied to Daric LaRone's topic in Request Expert Infantry Status
Yeah, Manny, the blaster is an utter failure and a disaster. I'm highly disappointed in myself since I don't have the skill to mod a Hasbro. Thanks for the honesty. Where can I buy a presentable, EI worthy blaster for under $100 (if it exists)? Thanks Terrell and Brian for the armor critiques and very helpful suggestions. I will get back to work this weekend... You other guys PLEASE give me more critiques and help for my checklist. I want to get this rig to look as good as I can with my limited skill. I am taking all the constructive criticism very well and will continue to do so. Don't be afraid to weigh in! (Although I already know the blaster is disaster ) Thanks everyone! -
Well, here goes. FX armor MRCE mod lid. I think if I find someway to bring the chestplate down a bit the shoulder bells will come forward... This one looks a bit better I think... Vaderdave buttons... Crack-not-a-lackin'... Smitty's excellent green lenses... Hasbro mod. Instead of flat black I used Krylon Hammered Metallic Black; hope that's OK... Working folding stock... Of course, open for suggestions. Thanks for looking. And thanks for all the help from FISD!

Hey Catbread! Truly one of the best board names out there. Welcome back! You are what true Soldiers of the Empire are made of my friend! Well done on your comeback. I also went with TupperwareTK armor and I'm very pleased. Check it out if you haven't already. Good luck with everything as you continue to Move Along! (oh wait, that's a Sandy ref... )

To get your Elite Swag!!!
Daric LaRone replied to Scott M.'s topic in Request Expert Infantry Status
Scott, I'm so sorry to hear of your struggles and heartaches. All the things you mentioned are MAJOR life events and are NOT easy to cope with in the least. My prayer is that your wife will find healing and relief from this terrible illness and that you will find comfort and peace in your caretaking of her. The death of your father must be a terrible toll and burden as well. Your trooper brothers are thinking about you and praying for you. Don't even worry about something like a decal with so much on your plate. However to come on this board and explain and apologize (when IMHO no apology is needed or expected given the circumstances) is a testimony to the man and the trooper you are! My two credits. Hang in there and know that you don't have to go through this alone. Keep us updated and let us know if we can help in any way. Peace, Derek -
mix, match voice amps?
Daric LaRone replied to Daric LaRone's topic in Electronics for Helmets / Blasters
OK. I have it in front of me but I don't have my camera. If you need a pic I can get it. The headset does in fact wear comfortably under the lid. To answer your previous question there is a "line out" on the Memorex wireless receiver. But that point may be mute/moot if I simply want to use the headphones/mic with the Scott respirator. Is there a relatively simple way to make that a reality? Thanks Smitty for your help on this. -
mix, match voice amps?
Daric LaRone replied to Daric LaRone's topic in Electronics for Helmets / Blasters
That makes sense. I know it's a preference thing but given the components I have what would you suggest, wireless or not? Just got back in town... I'll check on that output jack on the receiver this evening. Oh, and I may host a GA garrison get together one day... not much of a partier anymore with a wife and 2 young kids... quit drinking altogether in fact 3 yrs ago. I could host a barbeque or something similar I bet. Are those sorts of things done from time to time? Thanks for the electronic advice too. -
mix, match voice amps?
Daric LaRone replied to Daric LaRone's topic in Electronics for Helmets / Blasters
Right, Steve. My other hopes were to use the headset somehow for comfortability and possibly make the whole thing wireless. Your point Jim is well taken though as the respirator system does have a good mic. -
mix, match voice amps?
Daric LaRone replied to Daric LaRone's topic in Electronics for Helmets / Blasters
I'll check... I'm away for the weekend but when I get home I'll look. I may just send the whole mess to you to work on and pay you a service fee. But I'll check on the output jack first. Thanks dude. -
OK you electronics experts out there (Smitty, etal)... I've got the Scott respirator system already; it's awesome. -------- This week I found these Memorex wireless microphone components. I think they were part of my son's toy drum kit at one point. I love the headset! --------- So what can I do with these Memorex components and my Scott system (if anything)? I have no idea. I'm so clueless I can't get the two Memorex components to work together as is... and yes they have new batteries in them and they power up. At least I want to use the mic headset with my Scott. How would I do that? OR if I can turn it into a wireless system somehow... Keep in mind I am electronically challenged big time. Thanks for any help!
