    Hey Everyone,

I am a long time fan of star wars and have been thinking about joining the 501st for about a year now (wow time flies!). So it is great to meet you all. I am based in Sydney.

I really have no idea when it comes to building costumes and even where to start but would love to be a classic storm trooper, As a primary school teacher I am sure the kids would get a kick out of it and it would give me a good excuse to wear it during book week and other events such as presentation day haha.

The idea of building a costume from scratch is more daunting than I care to admit to so am hoping I might be able to find one that has already been built/ or someone who can walk me through it step by step!
Does anyone have a rough idea of how much it might cost? I am hoping it wont break the bank too much....

    Cheers,

    I

    Welcome! Glad to have you.

TK kits are kits! So for "Scratch" work, you wont have to worry about casting or molding your own set of armor. Armor vendors sell kits for Helmets, Blasters, Gear and Armor itself. They come in all sorts of materials and styles. For most, you can count on wanting to have some garage / workshop space. Cutting out the armor from the sheets, glue, painting, riveting, etc.

T-Jay's comment has great information for you to check out!

    If you don't want to build a TK kit;

    • You could come across a member of your 501st local Garrison (Star Cross Garrison for Sydney) who is selling a suit / kit they no longer want. Or a member on this site.
    • Check to find a Vendor who does Commission work, where they will assemble your kit for you. Though, you will still have to do fitting / changes / work, as your body isn't there.
    • If those two don't work, you could purchase a kit and ask us here, and your Local Garrison! Local 501st members may offer to help you in person with your kit.

    Rough idea for cost: 1,400.00 - 1,500.00 USD~

Where'd I get my number from?
My Paypal bills tallied up more or less, and a bit more for stuff I will be getting for my TK, in a week+.

    Ha! That’s funny, Junos!

So which maker do you wear, if you don’t mind me asking?

I'm still waiting for my Big Brown Box and my Medium Brown Box to arrive in the mail, which should be around next month. I ordered a Rogue 1 TK from 850 Armorworks + Helmet by HeadshotProps.

Before The Mandalorian, there was another Star Wars TV series planned. Footage of Star Wars Underground, a show that was in development all the way back in 2010, has surfaced online. The footage shows a very different show from the one many people enjoyed in 2019.

The show was to be set in the lower levels of Coruscant, a planet that plays a major part in the Star Wars prequels. It was set after Order 66, and the test footage below was produced by VFX specialists Stargate Studios. The show was eventually delayed and then cancelled due to the high production costs and the eventual sale of Lucasfilm to Disney. According to a comment from the uploader, a two-episode arc would have involved Darth Vader coming to Coruscant to "personally quell a rebellion".

It certainly looks a little ropey in places, and it's a bit hard to follow, but it's worth remembering that "test footage" is different from a pilot--this footage was meant to nail down the look and tone of the show, so we can excuse the bad gun fight at the end.

The test footage here is followed by a short "making of" film, which shows how everything was shot on a single green screen stage--similar to how many parts of the prequels were shot.

The footage, as it turns out, is from Stargate Studios' Vimeo, and was first uploaded nine years ago--we can only assume that it was set to private or unlisted until now.

Could these be the last batch of TK armor produced while George Lucas was still in charge? I want to say they could be something new, though I'm not well up on my TK difference studies. The right eye has the ANH bulge. The Back chest plate retains the 'O- I I' pattern, while on others it almost looks like a 'O-[ ]' . It's hard to see the details on the indents to see if they're sharp or smooth. There doesn't look to be any mold deformities.

Hi my name is Cadet Colonel Mccart at PS Academy I'm a huge Star Wars Fan with Clone Troopers & Stormtrooper's this is my last year of high school but I don't start college until August I need something to do I really want to join the 501st Legion.

Welcome to the Stormtrooper forums! The 501st offers many choices for joining, in terms of costumes. Have you checked out the officer/ Reserve Tie costumes? They're a great way to get started. Building wise, and expense wise.

I'm just not sure if TM's helmet is bigger because on some of the centurion builds that I've looked at it seems that the helmet looks huge on shorter people. It's bang on for guys who are 5'10" and 180 lbs (and bigger), but I'm more like 135 lbs.

That's funny you mention weight, because.. that's how much I weigh.

    5'8...  135 lbs...

I thought the Emperor stopped using clones for his armies!

    Junos, I’m 5’7”-5’8”.

Im 5'8. The only bobblehead syndrome I've experienced is with the Hasbro Black Series helmet, and that's just because Hasbro made the cheeks a bit wider. (which made the entire sides wider) Each vendor's helmet may vary in size just a little bit, like in gmrhodes13's reply.

Personally, I wouldn't worry over bobblehead unless, it's Black Series. Have you focused down to a list of vendors you're looking into? No doubt there, people will be able to chime in about helmet size.

Attached is what that "bobble head" black series looks like. It's not too horrible. IMG_20200129_213020.jpg

Here's what "bobble head" black series looks like with a full set of armor.

Well, I've done some more research and now I know which vendors are vetted and which to avoid, thanks to this site. Since I'm not a very tall person, are there some vendors who offer smaller helmets over others? I'm afraid of looking like a bobblehead.

Helmets are one size fit all. How tall are you?

So with the strapping that goes under the groin, I noticed some people have two silver buttons/rivers, are they required?

Doubled up buttons / rivets on the strapping is to make the connection stronger, so there's less issues with the armor falling apart / getting disconnected when trooping. Better secured = Better life

Thank you all for welcoming me.  As I said, I have an interest in the sandtrooper, but I am also considering the ANH stunt. I would love any feedback on why you chose your armor, and anything that may help sway my decision one way or another.

While I'm still waiting for my kit to arrive, I chose Rogue 1 TKs over ANH, ESB, etc as I feel its the cleanest / perfect vision of the Stormtrooper. An elite troop of a Galactic Empire should look sharp and clean, no longer held back by bad molds / technology that didn't exist for the OT

Good stories never start with good decisions. I am a life-long skateboarder. Once I get my build done, you'll absolutely see a few half-pipe TK photos. What was that about good stories? "Yeah, let me tell you about the time I broke my wrist and shattered my stormtrooper uniform 3 hours after it was completed." :)

That will be a fun conversation to have with your GML / 501st Approval team.

"Yeah, about that armor I got accepted/critiqued in? I don't have it anymore..."

So Ive wanted to make a stormtrooper custume for a while and after bumping into the 501st here at a local convention I decided I wanted to join. Ive tried doing some research in the past about people selling armour on their websites, but after reading some of the stuff on the forums thats probs not the best place for a kit. Ive read the booklet from the starter email, looked all over on youtube and looked thru the forums and what I should do but ive come up with no conclusion. Im stumped. Where do I find a good kit that is legit, no funny buisness online? All ive seen is sites to avoid and not which you should order from. I would like to not spend too too much money but still what my options are.

    Thanks

Welcome! It's great that a Troop inspired you to join!

While there is no "100% certified, 100% of the time" list, there's a large list of vendors here that have a very long and positive history with members here. While, on internet terms, its odd to stay away from Ebay/Amazon/Official Sites and go with individual people, it is certainly the way to go, as-long as they're "approved" here. While you can go with "non-vetted" vendors, do make sure to do the research. The issue with Non-Vetted vendors, is that there's a more likely chance of there to be issues when you order.

Feel free to ask questions, check MoSc0ut's comment for the link about the vendors. There are no bad questions!

I'm sure everyone has warned you about Head Shot Props and their lack of timeliness. That being said, even though my helmet was late, it was in good shape and it came out great. Working with resin is easy, and I am pleased with their details.

How late was it? Your R1 thread was an inspiration for mine. Online the listing has a ship date within 10 days, and when asked, HSP's Joe said its accurate and in stock.

Hey man! Can't wait to see this!

    Some recommendations/tips:

-Undersuit: I'm assuming you mean the ribbed sweater/gaskets? Jim Tripon makes them, hit him up on facebook or TheRPF (his products are under Jimmoroqui)

-Brow: I've searched top and bottom for rubber brow material at local stores... NEVER came up with anything. I ordered it off of Trooperbay.com. Fantastic stuff.

-Headware: There is no "right" balaclava, it all comes down to comfort. It tucks underneath a ribbed neck seal, so keep that in mind.

    -------------------------------------------------------------

In regards to everything else, unless you have the money for it, don't buy everything at once. Get the armor, harness that up, size it to your undersuit, THEN worry about technical stuff like mic and ac. It's much easier knowing EVERYTHING fits before hitting 2 birds with one stone.

Best of luck man! From one R1TK to soon another!

Does Jimmoroqui / Jim Tripon have an email?

As far as undersuit research, I found some posts on here that refereed Trooperbay / ExtremeRacing's 1-p body suit. Do you use a 2p or 1p undersuit?

Brow. No idea Trooperbay had these! I'll definitely be purchasing the brow and neck seal! Thanks for that suggestion. May aswell just get everything on TB since its there. Mesh, Visor, Brow and Neck seal. Convenient!

Balaclava... I'll certainly do trial and error, first starting with the thinner ones that operate more like a filming fullhead hairnet.

As for technical work, no way I would assemble the full thing without proper sizing / testing! While I feel this would be common sense, I think there's a reason it was mentioned... Hopefully those who suffered before with this didn't have too hard of a fix up job. ;)

    Undersuit....           Any recommendations?
Neck seal...            Contacted GeekyPink with some Qs, their products look great.
Balaclava...             I own some winter balaclavas, though they're... for winter.... should this be tight fitting or loose? The one I have is tight and a bit thick.
    Knee Gaskets..       Depends on undersuit.

Strap/ Hookups..   Elastic straps with snap buttons
Teeth mesh...         Easy to find in local stores. Same goes for the Hovi Mix Tips  (Hovi Tip Covers still needed)
Brow trim...            Rubber bar from local stores.. Anyone have reference on how much the brow protrudes?
ABS plastic...          Hoping to use the 'scrap' from the Armor kit for details like the Tube stripe blue indents. Aswell as re-enforcement if needed. If not, then Buying a sheet off of amazon.
Most of the small stuff here, like glue and buying more clamps
Travel container...  Looking into it. Local Garrison suggests 50 gallon Husky 37 inch wheeled container.   Purchased!
Helmet lining...      Home made using foam and leather
Onboard mic...      Possibly iComm from TK6294. Hide it underneath all the clothing / chestplate.
Helmet AC...          Something I plan to look into later. I've never really had an overheat issue with my head in previous costumes with thermal wear. (regular clothes + insulated bodysuit + biker pads). Concerning fogged up lens, usually id coat them with a AntiFog agent / Ceramic spray. Lasts a few hours, though temporary.

M300A Mini Scout Light.... would this work? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Element-Airsoft-M300A-Mini-Scout-Flashlight-Black-180-Lumens-EX-191-/141610520007

E-Web Heavy Repeating Blaster... out of the price range :P

Anything I'm missing? My workshop and dremel have been ready.
Also worth noting I've been in contact with my local garrison, have been very welcoming and eager to help if needed!

    Goal:
Complete before July 2020. 5 months of building.
Acceptance into 501st eventually leading to Level 3.

  15. Weeew.... 8 months of wait time. Im amazed you were that patient.  The model looks good though, can't say I've seen this much detail before. Hopefully sanding out the print lines wont kill your motivation! By the end of this, I have no doubt that you'll have an amazing looking DLT, and some huge muscular arms / hands with all the sanding haha
