    Good start, Jordan. :duim:

Thanks! I see your Centurion, I wanna hit that on the first run for approval, any tips or ideas or things to look out for when first building the kit? I Really Really Really just want basic approval obviously, but if I could hit Level 3 on my first go it would be a lot better and save some money lol

  2. Alight guys and gals,

I figured I would go ahead and start this before it gets too far out and have too much at once. I am starting my TK ANH build. currently waiting on AM Armor to have something available to be able to ship me a kit, super excited. But here is what I have and am doing so far.

I am a big visual guy, seeing it will help me a lot more than just reading stuff alone, but in order for me to kill 2 rebels with 1 blast, I decided to make a "Duct Tape" Mannequin. Also got my TK's Boots in from, well, TK Boots. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR TK BOOTS, SEARCH NO FURTHER, THESE ARE AMAZING!!!! the fit of these boots are great and OMG the quality is something else.

As far as the mannequin goes, I am going to use it to view my progress and as a working partner when I'm solo, but also as a display once we are done. The mannequin is being set up the have removable arms and legs for ease of display and setup, along with allowing me to position it while holding a blaster. Let me know what you guys think and if you have any tips on what I could work on next while waiting for the armor that would be great. Currently have my snaps, my level 3 helmet hardware & level 3 gloves with correct hand guards (Major thanks to @justjoseph63), and under suit.mannequin2.thumb.jpeg.daa3e7ed1f254b30b5a984767ccf32b8.jpegmannequin4.thumb.jpeg.bb28b5b9b6a21e5e8091876df3524e6f.jpeg

  3. Its really funny to see all of these actual screen used "Screw ups" that when duplicated on our armor, I am hearing wont pass approval. Wonder if this is personal preference of the GML or if its a Standard of the 501st. You would think it would be built into the approval that "issues" could be acceptable. I am currently sourcing armor and stuff to do my first build and am scared like crazy to make mistakes, luckily for me, today I met some of my local troopers and they all seem ready to help get me approved!

My ATA helmet arrived and man am I impressed. The quality and the supplied hardware at this price point ... just fantastic. I'm going to build this bucket to centurion level and was just wondering if there is anything that came with this kit that should be replaced with something else. The neck trim is "s" type and the ear screws are brass. Everything looks good to me but I'm still new to this.

    Well!?!?!

  5. Hmmmm. Interesting. I might abandon the TK Boots maker then in hopes that Rob is still in production. I will also go back to the info thread and see if the AM has an email and contact them to find out for myself. I really appreciate the help, on a side note, im gonna message you here in a minute about the hardware your selling. Wanted to make sure I get something right before screwing something up.

You can also try AM, Jordan, (troopergear@gmail.com).  It says he is on the "no longer made" area, but I am almost positive he is still in business.

Is he the maker to the TK Boots? also known as TK armor? I have been in contact with the TK boots people because I ordered boots from them, They said they are about 4 weeks out on armor kits and have added me to the backorder list. but the email is troopersupplies@hotmail.com I keep seeing AM, and in the TK armor (boots) facebook page is says AM Armor. Is that the same? I just am worried because a lot of people compare their armor to FX and I WANT to be 501st approved and don't want to run the risk of buying a set of armor and then not getting approved, it would be such a waste of money and time

I have RT-MOD and love it. Rob is out on business often so I don't know how long it's been but give him time. TM would be good option also.

Looks like you're on the right track:duim:

    Goood Luck Future Trooper!

Any idea how to get ahold of him? like I said the email I got was sent back so I may have the wrong one, any help would be awesome. I am also looking at ATA for a full kit.

Nevermind I found a better email on the main "types of armor and where to get them" thread. So sorry for not looking there again.

I have been using these on troops. Gorilla Grip Gloves They are breathable on the backside of your hand but have a rubbery texture on the inside (palm area). No more sweaty hands! When I shake people's hands or give them a high 5 they feel the rubbery texture too. They also are form fitting so you have a ton of dexterity. You can buy them at Home Depot also. I'm wearing them in my signature pic below.

How are you securing the armor to the back of the glove? also how do you hid the yellow?

  9. Hey guys and gals, hope this is the right place to ask, but does anyone know if Rob from RT MOD Armor is still producing armor? got word from a higher up that his armor is awesome and wanted to contact him, but email was sent and failed. any help at all would be great.

Also if you have an opinion on TK armor that is for "Larger" troops, I am 6 ft 1in (2in) and about 225 lbs (Hoping to work down to 210). Picks with your opinion would help as well. Already ordered my boots from TK Boots but on the fence about a few armors....Now open the blast doors and let me have it!!!

I was thinking of doing a non-canon TK in the distant future myself.  Idea was to acquire some old FX or other armor on eBay, paint the different parts with colors like brown, black , tan, or green, then glue some spandoflage material in camo or realtree or frog-skin style.  Spandoflage is what some hunters use for camoflage.  It's stretchable material.  I think it would look very cool.  Sport it at a convention, blow people away!

Definitely hold on to your idea.  It's got some merit.  Who's to say Commander Gree didn't die?  We all saw Maul die in TPM; got cut in half.  Then appeared later in a cartoon.  Maybe Gree's head got frozen in carbonite and became a cyborg later?

HAHA, thats an awesome way to look at it. I joke that Gree pulled his head into his chest plate, saving himself. One can always dream. Wish the 501st had a "dream" team lol. but hey im doing TK Gree for myself, not to please anyone else. It will just be great to bonce ideas off people and see where it goes. I have LOVING this so far, cant wait for everything to start coming in!

Welcome to the FISD! to honestly answer your question, a TK Gree (while awesome) would not be approvable (even as a first-in-legion) because it has no basis in the revealed canon (movies, comics, etc). For a new CRL to be created, good reference pictures are required. That said, there's nothing stopping you from doing a custom TK on your own (still taking advantage of the awesome build resources both here and in the clone detachment) and still associating with the 501st at cons and similar events, you just won't be able to wear it at official 501st events, etc. Do talk to your garrison leadership about unofficial events, because that is a whole other story.

That said, go for it, because I want to see it.

In a perfect world, you would have a nice, clean, crispy white TK (or even better, a Heavy Weapons Trooper) to troop with us and an awesome Gree TK to goof around in :)

    EDIT: for spelling. I'm OCD.

Yeah it looks like this is the route ill be going. I have a hand full of uniforms i want, TK (Shinny), Boba Fett, Jango Fett, Ep. 3 Gree, and Clone Wars Gree. Then i will make TK Gree my baby, my pride, and my one off. I dont think i have EVER seen anyone with the thought that Gree survived lol. but hey being here i may find im not the only one. But anyway I am so grateful for this community and it has already helped a ton. cant with for everything to come in

Hey Jordan! Welcome to FISD from your Louisiana neighbor.  As Luc said, to have a costume officially approved in the 501st, you would need to develop a CRL based on evidence it exists in the Star Wars vast universe.  However, you could do a TK or clone and get basic approvals making you a 501st member and then making other armors is up to you.

    Good luck! :salute:

Working on that as we speak, Just ordered my boots (literally starting from the ground up lol) and excited to get the uniform ordered. I will start with a TK just as you said and work my way in from there. TK is the original after all, so why not start there.

That is a fun idea.  Go for it.

BUT, speaking as a former GML and to the issue of approval, definitely first try to build a costume based on an official 501st CRL.  I'm assuming you're visited the Clonetrooper forum and researching there for a Gree costume.  Get approved.  Like was mentionted in the above post, it's policy that If a costume is a first, you must try to work with the GML and provide definitive, approvable photos of the costume.

All that said, in the end, it's your money, and it's your business as to how you wish to spend it.  If you want a non-canon costume to add to your repertoire, like was mentioned, go for it.  As far as trooping in it in official 501st troops, you would have to seek advice from your unit's executive staff and abide by their policies (speaking as former Event Organizer myself).

But, I'll go a bit further based on my past experience.  Let's say, for example, at a typical convention, as long as your not "representing" the 501st, you can wear anything you want as long as the 3rd party event's guidelines are followed.  As far as being present in the group and hanging out with them, I'd ask first just as a courtesy.  The event coordinator may provide stipulations.  I'd be cool with it personally speaking.

    Have fun!

Thanks a ton. This info really helps. I have already been in contact with my GML, and introduced myself via text and Email. He seems like a really nice guy and has even invited me to a build party coming up, super excited to be apart of that. Im gonna work hard to join the ranks of the 501st, and as far as my own creation i may use a junked set and just create it for display and my own pleasure.

  14. Well hello there, have been looking around for a few days and this is one place I do not wanna "Move along" from lol

Shout out from San Antonio Tx. Looking to start building my first set of armor and hoping this awesome group will help me along the way. I am EXTREMELY new to all this, but so far everyone I have contacted about ordering parts has been more than helpful.

I am now working on contacting my local 501st to start the process on joining that awesome group! I know this is going to be a long process, costly, and fun. Cant wait to start posting and getting the process going. I do have a question if anyone could help.

#1. Once joined with the 501st, is it possible to create a MOC (my own creation) and still troop with the group. As you can see in the tattoo below that I have, I don't believe that Commander Gree is dead, and has made a TK armor uniform and put a Kashyyyk paint scheme on it. Any advice would be awesome as I don't want to upset the balance in the force.

Thanks all and cant wait to explore more of your awesome threads
