  1. Welcome Andy!!!

If you scroll down a bit on the main page there is a place where people are submitting for Centiron, and you can see where they are needing to fix things or if they are good to go. use that to compare your build, and fix what needs if anything. Ask questions if you have them, there are more than enough to answer. Also, POST PICS!!! Good luck and have fun with everything

  2. Welcome! What part of Texas are you in? I am here in San Antonio, been great meeting local members so far and everyone has been super helpful. Make sure you join our facebook page "Imperial Academy - Star Garrison Recruit Page"  there are a lot of awesome people there as well and great help so far. They focus on all aspects of the Empire and can help in most any way needed. Hope to see you around and good luck!

  3. I am going with AM, currently 601 and about 230. Every single person that has seen me in person has said to go with AM. also, and kinda got to be honest, building your kit is somewhat a right of passage. I think ordering a "complete" kit kinda takes a lot of the fun and having the "get to know you" phase of your kit. something messes up you wont know how the made it or the best way to fix it. IDK I guess its just me, but there is a ton of pride that might be lost on ordering a "ready to wear" kit. Just my two cents. Welcome aboard and good luck in which ever way you go!@ Keep us posted

Small update - spent a couple of very frustrating hours on Saturday trying to repair my poor melted and deformed forearm, but with no luck. Tried another water bath, low level heat gun and blocks to shape, and even busted out the iron, but while I could get the edges moderately back to normal there are still indents across the arms where the elastics dug in. The plastic has started to feel "weak" and it has lost its uniform thickness. RIP right forearm.  I've reached out to Mark about purchasing a replacement.

Did a bit more trimming to size the thighs, finished up the outer cover strips on the biceps. Definitely felt a bit unmotivated though. I'm looking forward to the 4 day weekend to spend some good chunks of time on it.

Thanks for your support and advice. It's always appreciated :)

Just a tip, not sure what you did with that forearm part, but don't chunk it. you may run into a situation where you need extra material (small parts) and don't have anything left. you might be able to use that forearm part for something, never know. But of course im the type that never throws anything away and end up with a ton of crap lol. but there has been times were I was like "man I need this (insert item)" and after 20 minutes in the garage found something I forgot I had. Keep up the hard work, and im sure part of that pep talk was about the right of passage as a TK to build your own armor. you will love it so much more when you finish. your blood, sweat, tears will be worked into that armor and you will wear it proudly!

Yea they are the nomex gloves, I have the rubber gloves just didn’t wear them for the pic cause they are hot as hell even with glove inserts. Need to get the side rivets and cod snaps I know someone on here sells them but before I do that I need to shim the sides for no black. Which I’d need a decent size pieces of plastic which I can’t seem to find someone that sells the plastic in a similar shade at the dimensions I need. Other then that the belt can be notched and I’m on a wait list for a new thigh belt.

Your not far from what you want, just a little more leg work. I know you had a tough go when you started, reading your thread helped me out a lot to know what to watch out for, Ill be shooting for Centurion during my build to make things easier and less expensive for myself. Man is it hard being on here talking about the build without actually having my armor. I feel like when it comes in im going to have to read 20 more threads to stay fresh.

Might have just enough to do 1 cover strip. I used a lot on my original mess ups. I know I saved what I have so I’d have to check the box and see if there is enough to do 1 more. Good news is everything is out of the box cause I can’t fit it all back in.

Also a question about centurion. My sides are angled cause my buttIMG_2580.JPG is big. You can see it a bit in the attached pic. Can I shim that on an angle or do I have to straighten it all out and shim?

you cant have any black (for the most part) showing on the sides for Level 3. Also, are your gloves rubber? They look like a felt. and you need to notch your belt, the corners shouldn't be there. Your missing the 3 rivets on the left side. that's all I can really tell that's missing for level 3 based on the pic above

  7. Has anyone heard from him since his initial post here? kind of curious if this is a work in progress or he has dropped it? @Jasonm351 you still there buddy? You have quite a bit of work ahead of you, but like the others here have said you can do this. This forum is amazing and kicks butt with the amount of knowledge and support there is. You just need to work each piece at a time. I also am extremely curious about where you got your armor and if this is something you bought "Complete" or if you attempted it yourself? If this was purchased, knowing who you bought it from could help other potential Legion members avoid making the mistake of purchasing a knockoff or recast kit. I think your kit is fixable, but it will just take some time and coin. Please give us an update on whats going on with you and hope all is well.

I just read in another topic that you got your armor in a week, so I hate to say it, but I am about 97% sure you didn't get an authentic Anovos kit...But come on man let us help you out. even though im not approved yet, im pulling for you.  If you have half the drive I do right now for this, you have too much going to just let it go...we can do this man, that's why you came here!

After a couple weeks of not working on my build, I finally got the time to get back to it. Did more fine trimming on the chest and back pieces, then sanded everything down in preparation for fitting.

After that, I went ahead and drilled the holes for the brackets after checking my measurements several times.

I also installed the brackets to the armor and it came out better than I thought given my measuring skills. And following ukswrath's build I went ahead and used shims to reinforce the brackets.

Here are the results after some trial and error. I think it looks good and hopefully better after some paint on the bolts. I know I am going to have to drill the holes for the side rivets and cod (have them marked to drill now) and that I probably should I have done that first, but I only thought about that after the fact. Like I said, trial and error. But so far I am looking forward to keep the momentum going on this build.

And finally, I was able to trim the hand guards to better fit, but I'm still thinking it's a bit thick. What's the rule of thumb on width around the handguards? I have it at about 10mm all around right now (front is wider at the moment). A lot of the photos I see are the flexible handguards but was planning on using these for now at least.

And for now I am using the provided hand strap, swapped out with industrial Velcro. I also want to add another loop to go around my thumb to keep it from falling off but will look into that more later.

In the meantime I am going to finish the fitting process in time to start gluing sometime this month at a locale that isn't my apartment (don't feel like breathing in all that E6000 in an enclosed space). I'm hoping that if I have it all fitted and ready to glue, I can get it all glued on the same weekend. I have 50 rare earth magnets and a 22 pack of clamps for the job, so we'll see.

Just curious as to where you got your magnets from? I have searched and found a few places where they are pretty cheap but am weary about them being right. Some places have them are super expensive.

  9. Great write up man, made me even more excited, but so much more nervous to start my build. I don't think im going to set a deadline like I said, it will cause me to rush and I don't wanna screw something up. I think I got it pretty much figured out (biggest thing im nervous about is the glue part, have heard so many different things, I went with Amazing goop). Once I get my armor ill probably do the bucket first...I think

Yes sir!  Here is the link. You are going to love the AM kit! It is TOP NOTCH in my opinion!

aw man awesome, thanks ill get to reading. When I went to my first armor party, I asked in front of several that have been in the 501st for YEARS!!! My question was what armor should I go with, and without missing a beat, AM was thrown out 4 or 5 times. I have been talking to them for weeks and they seem to have a real passion for what they are doing. Im super excited because I was on the "backorder" list, but got notified earlier this week that a kit had my name on it if I wanted it. Um hello, payment sent lol. Now to just sit and wait. I really want to push to get done for the Solo movie but its gonna be tough and a lot to ask from my Squad mates, but we shall see (kinda hoping we will get a troop for the premier).

I just got my approval!  I am now TK11485.....whoo hoo!

Agreed Jordan!  I think I will drop my thighs about 1/2" and raise the shins about the same.  The knee will overlap the thighs if I tweak it.  I imagine I will be doing a lot of tweaking as I start figuring out what works best.

    Cheers!

Congrats man!!! and welcome to the Garrison (that I want to be apart of so bad, man time sux lol) Im waiting for my AM kit to come in. yours looks amazing and that helmet, OMG man, great looking. Did you happen to do a build thread, your helmet looks exactly like I want my in to (interior).

I’ve got two fans and the aker on my chest with the mic that came with it in my helmet and two fans. If I have the volume up too high it gives feedback. Haven’t trooped yet but my kids say it sounds good when I have it at about half way. I have hearing assist so it sounds like I’m yelling but they say it’s perfect.

what hearing system did you go with?

Normally with your Aker fitted in the chest area and microphone in the helmet you won't get feedback, unless you have it turned up too high ;)

Yeah i figured the helmet and Chest armor will help, but the uni directional mic would also help once there are fans inside the helmet. I get hot easy so fans are a must lol

Whelp. That turned into a train wreck in record time. I thought I would help secure that nice rounded shape using rubber bands - which sunk INTO the plastic and warped the entire thing.

Pardon me while I go have a Kylo sized tantrum.

Hubby thinks we can reshape and save them using the heat gun. Worst case I really hope I can order new forearms. Sigh

Wow, that looks bad. maybe the "hot water" technique would work to reshape it. That hurt me to look at. Please keep us informed if you get it fixed and how
