Great idea I’ll have to look into that. And I’m sure once your TK is done it’ll boost you to start something else.

lol, I have a Clone Commander waiting for me, its kind of started, but a little daunting. I will tell you the difference in armor is crazy, My AM armor came in pre trimmed for the most part and im in love with it. Extremely sturdy and looks like it can take a beating. I have watched several build videos and some of that armor looks so flimsy, im not sure how it survives a troop. But things are moving fast now, and hope to be a true 501st member soon.

  2. Man its been a while since I posted. I see that what I did is kinda normal, got my box then let it sit like the world would end if I started work. Finally got moved in to our new house and back from Vacation. Submitted approval photos (TI-Reserve Pilot) and filled out my App for the 501st this weekend. For some reason, this act BOOSTED me into a frenzy of "Get stuff done!"

    I have completed:

    my bucket

    Ab buttons painted and installed

    TD is done

    parts trimmed

    Biceps completed

    Belt cut

    Notch in Kidneys done

    Hand Guards done

I still have a lot to do, and this week wont be the week to do it as im working 12s all week. But this weekend will be great and hope to get some more progress. Will get photos uploaded tonight.

I have my thighs strapped to the ab, and it pulls the ab plate down after a bit of trooping. Made the ab come down too far and there was a gap at the chest so I’m currently reworking it. I did it because I too have the issue with the belt slipping. I used suspenders with the belt but the belt tends to get crumpled up and once it slipped out of the suspender. I’m thinking maybe a thicker belt with the suspenders.

You may also look for an "All in one" type suspender system. this is where the shoulder straps are adjustable, but the belt is connected to the suspenders, your not clipping something on to the belt and hoping it says in place. then just make straps with loops in them, and slide them on the belt, the belt should "click" together in the front to keep the whole thing secure. I am thinking I will use the suspenders and clip them to the back of the belt, and the top of the abs, that way it will keep my belt up, and the abs in place, all in one. I will anticipate some issue though and try and plan for that. we shall see. I will hope to do tons of trail and error prior to my first troop (once approved). I am super excited though as I have just submitted my photos for Tie Reserve and will be able to relax about being approved while I work on my TK. but the submission was just made so I expect to be a while. But funny enough once I submitted my photos, it boosted me to want to get the TK done.

  4. So as of right now everything is on hold. I got my helmet partially put together, just need to attached front and back, and put ears. But! we are fixing to move into the new house so everything got packed away.....

    I hate this...

The kit will have to remain in pieces until we move into the new house.  Oh well it will be nice having a dedicated space to build and not have to worry about much! sorry I am dragging on. I know its not a race but this is just sad...

I have been taking things one step at a time and veeery slowly ever since my dremel died, so I'm trimming with patence,  an Xacto qand Lexan Scissors.

Now, I've got the chest, backplate and abdomen plate semi ready to go but my major concern here is the return edge. As the kit I ordered came untrimmed so I could fit it into my big chunky body, I still wanna look good.

Here's a line I've traced of what I might go with - but still havent trimmed down. Ideally, is there a measurement I should follow, or how thick it should look?

If it's good like this, should the same thickness be followed back to the kidney plate, both upper and lower areas and the butt plate? this is the ab an kidney held with masking, nothing has been cut, glued, etc. Pics:

Butt plate which also concerns me, the lower area where our beautiful cheeks are tucked inside, does this area in particular has return edge?

I notice some screen caps, they do have return edge but some don't or is it very minimal? As in not the same thickness that the Ab, kidney, upper butt, etc.

A general question, is the return edge all the same all around the armor? If so this could help and i'd just measure the return edge on the lower side of the chest plate and use that and cut and devour away like Tazmania

IMO, and take this lightly as I am still researching, but your thinking way too hard about all the trimming. Your going for Level 3, follow the CRL and that's it. I have seen and heard about people getting denied because the followed a build they saw in the movie. The CRL is all you need. If there is a return edge required there, then follow what that says, if not, build to comfort. anyone that would call you out for not having a Return edge like in the movie is most likely going to be trooping with you, so no worries. Build looks good so far, keep up the great work and updates

  6. Little bit of an update. Havent started on kit yet, still waiting for it to come in. Just made a deal for a B grade blaster (Hyperform), second pair of boots (TK Boots), Belt and holster. Hopefully not too much work needs to be done to the blaster, boots were a really good deal and could pass them up, and still need the belt and holster for the build. Everything should be here once the armor comes in, and when build starts hope there will not be any stalls due to missing items.

Also got everything in for Helmet interior, just waiting on an Iphone for Troopertalk.

    Ok, I'm officially starting "A.J.'s O.F. AM 2.0 Build."

So, why "O.F.?"  You’re probably thinking I'm dyslexic and meant First Order.  Nope.  That stands for "Old Fart."  Or, in keeping with ANH canon, I guess maybe that should be "Old Fossil."  Either way, I'm probably one of the older noob armor builders and 501st aspirants you're likely to trip over.  In viewing all my armor spread out in my shop, my wife noted how pleased she was that I'm enjoying my second childhood.  That's nonsense, since I’m nowhere near finished with my first one yet so the joke's on her.  In any event I'm certainly older than most of you -- likely old enough to say, "Luke, I am your father" to a lot of you and have it be accurate.  Well, except for all the genetics, of course.

I've been reading the build threads (and pretty much everything else around here) for several weeks now, and while my abject terror at making the first trim cut is no less than it was when I first started researching, I'm fairly confident that I'm as prepared as I can possibly be.  To that end, as soon as I post this I'm heading down to my shop to get started.

Before that, however, a word about TrooperGear and the AM armor.  First, I'm beyond impressed with this stuff.  In going through the many, many builds I'm stunned at how nice AM armor is.  The preliminary trimming work is top-notch, the ABS is thick and shiny, and the look of everything is simply beautiful.  I'd also like to compliment TG (does that guy have a name?) directly.  His correspondence with me before purchasing was complete and packed with information.  His responses to my incessant questions were speedy.  When I ordered, he was more than willing to ship my BBB around my busy travel schedule so I'd be sure to be home when my UPS guy dropkicked the box from the street to my porch.  (All UPS drivers deliver this way, right?)  Further, when I discovered a crack in the helmet components -- probably thanks to Mr. UPS -- he quickly and without questions shipped replacements.  In fact, when I emailed to verify that he'd gotten the photos I’d sent of the parts, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that he'd already shipped them.

Also, I couldn't get started without saying just how awesome all of you are here on White Armor.  Your willingness to help is nothing short of amazing, and there are no words for the value of the copious amounts of info to be found here.  In gathering stuff for my build I’ve even bought stuff from a few of you -- Ukswrath, Pencap, Darman -- and your gear is not only great, but your communications back-and-forth before buying are just as rapid as your shipping.  Outstanding!

A little about me -- I'm a full-time freelance writer/editor living in Williamstown, W.Va., and have been in the publishing industry in one manner or another full-time since the mid-'90s .  Before that, I was a radio broadcaster for a few decades.  (The two careers actually overlapped.)  I've been a Civil War re-enactor for 20 years, and have written two books on the subject of making authentic reproductions of wooden items from the 19th century.  In that regard, I guess I'm not a complete noob when it comes to making exact copies of things from a long, long time ago.  If you're not already bored, check out some of the things I've made and written on my website, www.ajhamler.com.  Haven't updated the site in a while, though.  Gotta do that Real Soon Now.  Let's see, what else?  My passions include my 4-year-old grandson Jed (who, naturally, I call "My Young Jedi"), gourmet cooking, hiking and a really good IPA.

Oh, and I'm also an Old Fart.

So anyway, if you’re still with me after all of that, welcome to my build!  Next post will be the first item on my build list: the Thermal Detonator.

    A.J.

    Sorry,

but you made me cringe so hard...Havent finished reading through your post but I will, that first bit was funny. But "Luke, I am your Father" was never EVER said in the Star Wars Movies...Thank you. Cant wait to read the rest of this feed though. sorry that had to be said!

  8. Welcome! You may not know these but there have been several animated series that have come out with more than enough OT TK, so if you want to do an OT trooper go for it. No reason to settle for a FO TK. do what you want, not what others want. I think the "right of passage" should be through the OT TK lol, but I also at the same time am building an animated series Phase 1 Clone Commander Gree. Good luck with what you pick to do and keep us in the loop, ask questions, and most of all do your research!

  9. Can I use Amazing Goop to build my armor? I have had several people tell me to use it and was just wondering if and how it went for others. They told me the E6000 breaks down after some time and has stained their armor. Hope someone can give me some more info on the use of, or avoiding of, certain build materials...THANKS ALL!!!
