So for the certification at Centurion one has to wear latex hand guards and (polypropylene) gloves, but you can revert to nomex gloves for trooping? What's the point of Centurion then?
-
Does the CRL need updating? "* Gloves * For 501st approval: • Black in color, made of either rubber, nomex, leather, or leather-like material, with no visible straps or logos/designs. The fingers are enclosed, non-textured."
-
Is this an instance of "Don't ask me how I know!"? Do these gloves pass muster for Centurion?
-
In my kit, the difference was much greater. The advice I was given was to make it match at the bottom end, which is visible. The top end hides under the shoulder, right?

Waiting with baited breath. I already sent my latest photos to Adam. I didn't want to do an end-run around him and post them here.

GGG? Andrew? Adam's my GML. The GGG forum (the part I can access, anyway) has shown very little activity since April 2016.

This is my Anovos helmet, which I think was built about two years ago. When I got it it did not have those tiny grey points in the end of the frown; I added those by request. (I also filed away gray overspray )

Now I see the rivet! Wow. I did not see the rivet in the PDF until I saw the bigger version here: http://databank.501st.com/databank/File:TK_anh_stunt_shins.jpeg And if someone builds it that way with the intent of going for higher accuracy later, he is … riveted. My friends are all saying, "Rivets? Tiny dabs of paint? Really?" (Yeah! Really. If Mister No Stripes' correct strapping system is optional, then why does it matter whether a rivet is the wrong kind on the inside no one sees?) I think that people trained in the details see them as "obvious", while newbies can look at a reference picture and a photo of themselves and not see those "obvious" differences. A few months ago I might have seen this and said, cool! But now I say Gah! https://www.ebay.com/itm/Star-Wars-Stormtrooper-Helmet-ATA-Works-Exact-Replica-Hand-Made-Armor-ROTJ/263389265032

The helmet picture in the PDF is too small to make out the details. This picture, which I found by accidentally clicking on the helmet in the pdf, is detailed enough: http://databank.501st.com/databank/File:TK_anh_stunt_helmet.jpeg The text from this thread which I quoted above is not correct. The Anovos helmet is not ready out of the box.

I almost want to get, anonymously, all the fix-it t tickets that have been issued and see whether the published standards are accurate and adhered to. I read one thread where someone got dinged at basic for things he saw in Centurion suits that passed. There's a lot of ambiguity and indirection.

My garrison's MLA required the corners of the frown to be painted grey.

I'm looking these up. Hang in there; the definition of TBA is to be announced. NVM. Some are in the thread already. TLA copypasta would violate the WWD (Wil Wheaton Doctrine). ATA: Affordable Trooper Armor

Huh. The error isn't actually consistent. Some old posts have the problem; some do not. Sometime between June and September 2015 the problem went away. 1-glyph substitutions: ü -> ü ä -> ä ö -> ö ß -> ß Examples: Kostüme -> Kostüme längere -> längere eröffnen -> eröffnen Grüße -> Grüße Oberkörperpanzer -> Oberkörperpanzer = Upper Body Armor. Isn't that a cool word? These examples don't include any capitals but I suspect 1) a search for à will find them and 2) these are the 99% solution. There is a lot of relevant and useful text that contains a lot of these errors. Lucky for me I don't actually have to read this; I can get by in English. Spanish also has the problem but I don't know what the substitutions are. The problem is rare as the volume is low. Ohboy. This is Bad with a capital Bad. The one thread in the Russian section looks like this: The last reply looks okay, so this may be a DNF: Do Not Fix.

My furry friends want me to adapt my Anovos suit so I can wear my wolf head and tail. To do that right I'd get a separate butt piece with a tailhole. (I mean a hole in the butt plate, not the anatomical reference! ) Come to think of it, I might have to adapt the neck opening, too. Spare parts are useful. Silliness aside, last November I ordered an Anovos ANH TK kit from a seller on eBay. I received it in good time; it looks like it sat around unbuilt for a long time. The instructions were in the best Ikea tradition, but with the help of Ukswrath's build thread and others, I got my kit together. So the seller is not vetted until they get their act together, but the kits, properly built, are.

TK Pre-Approval Program Overview
Timberwoof replied to Daetrin's topic in TK Pre-Approval Questions & Discussion
Where's your build thread? Do you need a friendly kick in the butt-plate? -
Yeah. I expect that there are alway enough expert Troopers on hand to spot any obvious problems that it's not that much of an issue. The list I made here is mostly intended for people getting their submission photos done and their helpers who might not have the expertise.

Watto was an incompetent slave owner. That kid had enough time on is hands to refurbish a protocol droid and build a pod racer. No wonder he was so undisciplined. What? That was who? Uhoh.

Timberwoof's Anovos ANH TK Build Thread
Timberwoof replied to Timberwoof's topic in ANH Build Threads
The Anovos kit has elastic straps with velcro at each end; fuzzy velcro goes in the shoulder bells and the bicep. Same for the bicep-forearm joint. In the photo with the car, that had not been adjusted yet. The point of that trip was to fetch my MacBook so I could review the photos and spot such problems. My friend helped tighten up those straps and fixed the problem, then took a new set of photos. Getting that right made a huge difference in mobility. That's one of those non-obvious secrets, so I added it to my Wisdom page. -
*nods* Is there an inspection as rigid as costume approval?
-
I think we're seeing strain from the flat snap brackets on the curved back armor pieces. How flexible are the snap brackets? How much does clamping them bend the armor? My Anovos kit has two such brackets for snaps that suspend the thigh pieces. They are oriented vertically—the same axis as the curve of the codpiece at the belt line—and there was no such effect.

Hang in there, Frank. You're not the first to have been given a fix-it ticket. Don't ask me how I know. I am sort of surprised at the requirement for the frown corner to be painted. I read on this forum that the Anovos hemet is good to go out of the box. Its frown is not painted that way, but I had to correct that for my submission. If that's a real requirement that the CRL and the statement in this forum need to be corrected. Hmm. Research project: read through every submission with corrections, collect them all up, collate them, and update/complete the CRL.

Timberwoof's Anovos ANH TK Build Thread
Timberwoof replied to Timberwoof's topic in ANH Build Threads
I'll tell my photographer. He'll be quite pleased. -
I don't know what the actual words are. I made up Technician because it sounds cool and it would be a Real Thing if there was such armor, right? "501st Trooper Armor Technician" would be a cool patch to sew onto overalls, but you'd have to earn it. (Anybody who builds a suit earns it!) I separated the concepts mostly because a Technician helps you into and out of armor while Handler walks around like a Stage Ninja to make sure kids don't stick a lollipop on your tail. A person could certainly do both jobs!

Personas are fun to set up. I have two main ones for when I'm fur suiting as a wolf. ("Timberwoof," right?) I have cop armor with signs "Police Dog: Do Not Pet" which is a magnet for real cops and people who want to pet me. At sci fi conventions I ask people for their IDs; they show me their con badge. When they show me it I'll say something silly like "Oh, okay. You're free to go." I also have a space suit meta-costume; then I'm a woof space cadet. At a furry convention where the hotel had a lot of airline pilots staying overnight, I saluted them as they walked by. (Do I have to show my Space Cadet Cred Photo?) Kids love to high-five me … unless they're scared to death of my teeth. A friend of mine is a dragon. At the beach one day a kid pointed at him and screamed, "El Diablo! El Diablo!" Yeah, kids. One kid is the reason I wear a cup when I go fur suiting in public. So. Stormtrooper persona. Clearly I'm not a clone. Did we volunteer or did we get drafted? "I wanted to see the galaxy, meet aliens, and shoot them" would probably not be a nice thing to say. Magni, I like that idea of same planet as Han. "I'm from Tattooine. Yeah, I knew Luke. Nice kid. I wonder what happened to him…"

Green undersuit would be appropriate. The reason for the wearin' of the green is that it was banned as an act subversive against the English crown. That said, No Green Beer! That is an act subversive against beer.
