1. From what I've read about using the ABS paste, my thoughts would be that welding ABS would be a bit easier. I'm a welder anyways, so maybe it's just the welder in me thinking.
I think when I get time, I'm going to take some scrap ABS and give it a try using a soldering iron. I don't want to invest in any sort of real plastic welder not knowing how this will work out for sure.
2. Would somebody please be kind enough to post me a picture of a Hyperfirm E-11 B grade as it comes shipped out of the box?
Also, what makes these B grades? I'm assuming B grades are seconds. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.
I'm trying to decide on which blaster to get. I originally was going to get the kit on eBay that was discussed, but that may have to be down the road. I got enough building going on right now without adding to my already full plate.
3. I can't load pics from my mobile device for whatever reason. I did download Tapatalk, but I've got something set wrong in my settings and it won't work for me either.
4. New lesson learned. I was working on fitting my ears to the helmet and was having difficulty getting them to fit like I wanted. Needless to say I was getting aggravated. I finally just quit and decided to try again later. So I briefly worked on one of them this morning. And what do you know, everything went smoothly.
So the lesson is if your having difficulty or getting aggravated, just stop and step away. Try again later with a fresh mind.
5. I've learned a great deal so far doing this. Makes me want to do another build after I finish this one. I think things will be much smoother a second time.
If anyone is reading this and your doing your first build or are planning a first build, I highly recommend doing research and looking at pictures and videos if available for each and every step of the way. Doing so will save you some grief later.
6. Ok, I got my forearms and biceps finished. Well except for the cover strips anyways. I'm probably going to do covers trips on most everything last. I started my right thigh, which has been a ordeal.
I had some issues with the bucket, mostly my own fault. But I stepped back and regrouped, done some research and watched some good videos. In the videos, these guys were just moving right along building their helmets. Me, not so much.I just finished replacing a couple screwed up decals and then trying to get the face lined up where I wanted it. I found out in a previous attempt that the screw dimples are not a very good guide. So I clamped the face and tweaked it here and there, until I finally got it where I wanted it. I got two screws on either side and I'm happy with how it sits. I did reference plenty of pictures from the movie to get what I was wanting. I then test fit the ears to get a idea of what I was going to need to do to get them mounted with minimal gap, but didn't get any farther. I needed a break. Lol!
On another note, I did play around the other day with making my own flat lenses. I'm not a big fan of the lens sheet that came with my helmet. I think it's too thin. But, I found something that's not only plenty thick, but it's also easily cut and very flexible. So I think it will be just the ticket.
7. Has anyone ever tried to weld ABS plastic? I did a search and was unable to find anything. Let's say you cracked your armor or maybe cut too much off or whatever. Anyone tried to salvage a piece by welding it??
8. I'm mounting the hardhat liner in mine. I know some don't like those, but I wear a hard had at work all day and I'm used to it. Plus I have the experience of being able to making it more comfortable. While I haven't tried it in my bucket, I can say if adjusted correctly, a hardhat liner is quite stable.
9. I'm not on Facebook and I already have a ICOMM I got from someone here. But I'm glad you let me know about your unit. I hadn't heard of it until now. I would suggest you post about it in the for sale thread, as I'm sure I am not the only person in the dark about your unit. And you are correct, there's plenty of room for another in the game.
10. I can get the MR1505 cheaper than the MR1506. Just trying to figure if there's a reason why the MR1506 is better somehow. I assuming either will work with a ICOMM.
11. I'm looking at a Aker MR1505 and MR1506. One is slightly thicker than the other, but both are 10 watts. One is almost twice as much. What's the real difference??
I'm also looking at a Croove 20 watt, that has really good reviews. I'm assuming it will be compatible with my Icomm?? Its about the same size as the Aker MR1505.
I've never had one of these amps and I don't know anything about them. Hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction.
12. New lesson learned yesterday. I found out why it is recommended using E6000. I made a mistake and didnt catch it until after my glue had dried. A little careful prying and I was easily able to correct my mistake. Clean up of the old glue was fairly easy as well. Replies and I'm back in business. I'm loving E6000!!
13. I'm not familiar with using fiberglass and resin. Do you have to mix the resin? Is there different kinds of resin and if so, what kind do you use? Where is a good place to buy the fiberglass and resin?
14. That's good to know, thank you. I will try to reinforce those areas with epoxy.
15. I was curious if anyone has had their armor crack where you've drilled holes for rivets or what not?? If so, I was wondering if it might be a good idea to reinforce around the hole with some sort of epoxy or something??
16. I didn't take it as spam personally. I assumed you were just trying to explain yourself and for me, I don't have a problem with it. But that's just me and I can not speak for others.
17. When it's all said and done, what really matters most is if your happy with your armor or not. And the reality of it is you must trim whatever you have to to make it fit YOU and also be comfortable to wear. Armor that doesn't fit is going to be a nightmare to wear for hours while trooping. Plus if it doesn't really fit, your not going to be able to move and be walking around like a robot. I had the similar concerns when I first started building my armor as you do. The garrison armorer here told me basically what I just told you and he is correct. It's YOUR armor, YOU bought it, YOU have to wear it and YOU need to be happy with it.
18. I messed up one of my decals on my AM 2.0 helmet build. Anyone have a clue as to where I can find replacements that will fit this helmet?? I'm wanting good quality decals please.
19. Anyone have a clue on how I can get Tapatalk to work on my android device??
Everytime I try to get on with my Google account or email, I get a error message.s days I need to check my APN or AdBlock settings. I checked them and I'm not really sure what exactly I need to change.
20. I believe that a person is innocent until proven guilty. The accused shouldn't have to prove himself innocent.
So as far as I'm concerned, Zugor you did a wonderful thing for your kids and I'm sure it will be a cherished memory for them to carry with them the rest of their lives.
And I can see a difference between not only the helmets, but everything else as well. Yes it's similar, but in reality all TK armor is similar regardless of the maker. But even I can see your is not the same as the other. Go Superdad!!
21. If you know your stuff is your stuff, I wouldn't be concerned what other may think. Be happy with what you did and enjoy it with your kids.
22. I'm glad you made this suggestion. I've never used Tapatalk and photobucket sux. Thanks!
23. I'm by far no expert, but the two look different enough to me that I do not believe they are recast. So take that for what it's worth and have fun with your kids.
