  1. Technically you are right Obi Wan never owned R2, but he 100% surely know who the droid was after years and years of using that particular one as well as C3P0. I know in the SW universe there are lots of protocol droids and R2 units but man, you spend years with this pair you tend to remember or at least vaguely recall...

You are absolutely right. R2 was always with Anakin, who was Obi-wan's best friend. And R2 and C-3PO were inseparable after they met, so Obi-wan would have to have recognized the pair of droids right after the sand people attacked them and Luke.

I just try not to think about that sort of thing. LOL

  2. We can all "hate" as much as we want on Star Wars. But one thing we all have to remember is that they are, in fact, just movies. They are entertaining stories written by a man who has great vision and ideas, but also is just a man. He made mistakes and changes along the way while of writing these things.

I am a die hard true blooded Star Wars fan. I dislike a lot of what Lucas has done, but I don't hate any of it (well maybe Jar Jar). What I love about Star Wars heavily outweighs what I dislike. So I don't dwell on the negative.

This article struck a chord with me; as did "The People vs George Lucas." But it is a humorous chord, I'll keep enjoying Star Wars.

@DDay - regarding Obi-Wan never owning a droid: it can be argued that he never did own a droid. All of the droids he worked with were the property of the Jedi Order or the Republic military. He used them when necessary, but if you think back to the PT you'll realize that while he interacted often with droids he never had an owner relationship with one. :)

  3. Greetings from another newbie (out in the Chicago suburbs)! The folks on this board have a TON of information and knowledge, but I suggest you check out the thread that describes what armor is out there and how to obtain it. There are a lot of options.

I'm currently waiting on my big brown box... can't wait until it arrives!

  4. Gotcha. There's a bit of work in trimming a kit, but not hard work. There's a good chance that once you get a trimmed kit, you may need to trim it further to fit you perfectly anyway. Have a look at other AP build threads and EIB/Centurion applications. The kit itself will be fine for basic approval. You may need to update the Hovi tips for EIB. Not sure on the AP ones.... Clover foam is a personal choice. Again, check out the build threads to see various methods of installing padding. You will need to buy things later like cloth belts, paint for the buttons, so you could always get the kit and see what you want to upgrade later. Again, not sure on AP, but make sure you get spare ABS to make the cover strips for all the pieces. Mark is great to deal with so don't hesitate to PM him.

This is great information, much appreciated! Looking at all of the variations of TK armor I think I'll go with the ESB version; if for no other reason than that's my favorite of the films.

I must admit that I already have a goal of creating an EIB certifiable costume. I've been reading up on the requirements, and they are lengthy but I can do it.

Now to start reading the AP build threads...

  5. Hey Welcome. You've got a pretty good neighbour there! A wealth of information, and sometimes it's just easier to see things in person.

What 'options' are you being offered? The chances are you will need most of them, just depends whether you get them from the one supplier of source them individually.

Thanks Ian. The options to which I'm referring are the ones listed on the "Types of armor and where to find the" thread on the "Getting Started" forum. Under AP there's a long list of options like trimmed/untrimmed, lens type, helmet upgrades, etc. I'm sure there are ones unlisted. Just wondering if there are things I definitely want to add when I order or things I want to avoid and do myself.

We went with AP after I contacted several of the suppliers listed on this forum.  Price ranges were everything from $2,500 for a fully assembled set to $450 for an uncut set, but it had a 9 month waiting list.  We went with AP due to the rapid/friendly responses, reasonable pricing and very favorable reviews on this forum and other forums. That said, we are newbies and have no idea what we are doing or getting ourselves into... but my gut tells me all will work well.  GOOD LUCK!  I'm sure you'll see my "S.O.S." posts when we start our build.  :)

P.S.  Our seven year old daughter is eager to get into the mix, so we are working on her Jawa costume!  :)

Excellent! I think your gut is right, and it will work out great. I look forward to reading your build thread... aka SOS posts. lol

Do you plan on attending 501st functions next year?

Did you start the Jawa costume already? That's going to be pretty neat, a couple of TKs with a Jawa.

  6. Hey Katie! Yeah, I saw your thread in the MWG board. I CANNOT wait to get started on my armor.

I saw the list of options on the main thread on FISD and I was wondering which ones you and your hubby went with and why? Being the newb I am in info-gathering mode.

That's really cool both of you are getting TK suits. My wife is very supportive of my SW addiction (you should see my basement) but I don't know if I could get her into a costume. Maybe I just haven't tried hard enough. LOL

  7. Hi everyone. I've been wanting to join the 501st for a few years now, and got motivated to start doing the research after meeting some troopers at a local LEGO display in the Chicago suburbs. I joined MWG and since I want to build a TK costume I figured Ishould join this site, as well.

I've been reading through the plethora of "start here" and info threads for the past few days, and I must say my head is swimming a bit with all of the information out there.

I am 5'8", about 180lbs (mostly muscle thank you very much lol) with a 30" waist. I am not in a rush to build my costume; and willing and excited to get my hands dirty. I also want something that will look great for years to come, so I am willing to spend some $$.

I'm leaning toward AP. It looks like they have excellent quality, a lot of options, and I still will be able to customize the armor to fit me. I would welcome any input and advice from the veterans on the board.
