  1. So here's a question for those that used a belt sander. What grit did you use? Start with 600-800 and move down to smaller? or did you used the same one throughout? what was it - 1000? 1200?
  2. Gosh Wyatt that's a tough one to answer. I'd say in the end it comes down to what value you assign to your time while also trying to help a legion brother/sister. I think you're on the right track in that charging "actual" per hour rates would drive up the cost beyond what most could afford (1k - 2k). Have you considered perhaps a trade for you services? Is there anything on your "want list" even if not hobby/501st related? Tools or hardware perhaps? Something this person could provide in exchange for the service. Just a though as it would have all parties getting what they want.
  3. Is the extra thick the same as the gel? Or is slightly more liquid-y?
  4. (tip of the hat) Oops, sorry about that Brett. Completed missed the line where you brought up grandfathering. Yep, I'm all for that.
  5. I agree that we all go into this knowing that change is inevitable. As better reference is made available through different medias we have all seen this occur at some point in time. Just as some have made the argument that we should not hold in limbo those that have or will be building a suit between now and December others could easily make a counter argument with things being as fluid as they currently are. Personally I've always viewed the CRL as a go / no go. You either meet the requirements or you don't. I think its safe to say most here share that same view. However I do recognize our present situation as quite different from what we've seen in the past. So with that in mind I would feel more comfortable with a formal CRL if it accounted for this and provided something to mitigate some of the risk the early adopters (alpha's, beta's, Etc) may have. I'd hate for a couple of hundred people to be wrong come December and have to do some serious re-work.
  6. (My 2 cents worth) I have to agree, pushing for a CRL this early is like putting the cart in front of the horse. I do understand why some folks would want it out sooner but I think in the end everyone would be better served by waiting. We all understand that CRL's are living documents but with things being as fluid as they are now, and will continue to be till the end of the year, I really do think it's the best course of action.
  7. To me costumes are like potato chips.... You can't have just one.

  8. I've heard TK boots can be somewhat narrow. I'm a size 13 2E/EE. Should I get size 14 boots?
  9. Ok, so here's a question. Belt sander, is it a... "nice to have" or "must have"?
  10. Which size Chicago screws do you recommend? 1/4", 3/8" or 1/2"? How wide should the velcro be? 1", 2"?
  11. Looks good!
  12. Thanks for sharing. Awesome build. Congrats!
  13. for those of you that used CA glue in place of Bondo for gap filling - did you use the medium or thick viscosity?
  14. If your in Wisconsin then yes they charged sales tax - which they were required to do.
  15. Taking a guess here... Is your shipping address in the same state as which they do business? (I believe Wisconsin) If that's the case then I dont think they can get out of charging you tax.
  16. Thanks for the response Dean. I'll see about contacting them.
  17. Has anyone inquired as to if they would credit shipping to those that ordered prior to SWCA but whom attended? To be honest I was there but it didn't occur to ask the guys at the booth. Had I given the whole issue a little more thought I could have while attending the convention cancelled my existing order and made a new one to get the shipping discount.
  18. Thanks for the info. I know this is extremely unlikely but it would be awesome if they had the prototype on display as well.
  19. Well I pulled the trigger and got one as I was in the market for a TK. I'm not really concerned about the wait time - as its par for the course in this hobby. I also have other things to wear/use till then. As others have mentioned at this price point it's worth a shot to try and if it doesn't work out I'll pass it on to the better half.
