Vertex TFA TK build thread (88188)
Vertex replied to Vertex's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
I'm still early in the test of this poly putty but thus far I'm liking it. After laying some down about 24 hours no shrinking or cracking as with other putties. -
I wonder if your product is similar to the tamiya one I'm using in my thread.
-
Still looking for a code as well. PM me if you got one. Will pay it forward.

I do see what you mean, particularly in the SWCA pic. I do wonder if that's by design or just something that got stressed a little too much while say dressing the mannequin.

Vertex TFA TK build thread (88188)
Vertex replied to Vertex's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Posted this issue on a seperate thread but copying it hear as this could affect my build. So I've taped up the forearms (parts 7/8 A-B-C) to see how they would fit and I can see why these get put under a lot of stress when being put on. I have quite large hands and to be honest I don't think once these are glue together I'll be able to put them on so I'm looking at possible alternatives. I currently have two Ideas.. The first would be to have a wider backing strip on one or both butt joints of parts A and B. This would make for a larger space for the hand to go through at the wrist end. Of course the would increase the overall circumference of the forearm. The second would be to work in some sort of velcro closure somewhat similar to what you see with shins. Placed along part C. Glued on the outer side of the forearm and velcro on the inner side. Would like to hear what others may think of my ideas and if anyone else ran into the issues with big hands and how they got around it. -

Intially I'm going to say yes but let me get back to you on that as this is my first attempt with this product. Instructions say 60 min cure time but going to let it go overnight and then put it to the test. I do think that it will do just fine for smaller / non stress areas. -

Cool pics. I think its interesting how they have the cod piece attached behind the tabs of the ab armor. The pics Ive seen previously had it attached in front of the tabs.

Lots of cutting and sanding done. At this point all I have left is the front/back armor and boxes. I've also started gluing the leg and arm armor. As mentioned in another thread I'm planning on using a Devcon product as filler for larger gaps or stress areas. For small non stress gaps Im going to try the Tamiya product pictured below. -
Thanks for the response David. What type of thread did you use? Poly? Nylon?

Don't know. Not looking at getting the TX.

Looks great. Will follow with interest. -
Hey all, Like everything else in this build I'm double and triple checking references and resources before cutting, gluing, sanding and all that. I'm starting to put my gaskets together and even though I can sort of figure out how they go I'd really like to verify my plan of action by comparing to what others did. Does anyone have the instructions for these? Thanks
-
Anyone have another 10% they could pass along. I will gladly pay it forward once I place my order. Thanks

Not going to bloat this thread with the usual pics of armor being cut. Still have the upper body to go. Then I'll move on to sanding and glue. I did nick my finger so I guess its now official now that blood has been drawn! I was going to work on my gaskets but not sure how to proceed as I don't have the instructions. Im assuming that the assembly is identical to Wyatt's (4205) gaskets. Can anyone confirm that's the case? -
Well here's my current plan of attack. For areas where.... - Don't expect a lot of flexing (Ie. Biceps / thighs) = ABS hobby glue. - Some flexing (Ie. shins) = E6000 - Gap filling = DevCon plastic weld (only able to get 6 tubes so I need to be conservative in its use)

Not much progress thus far. Opted to start with something simple as the biceps as a confidence builder. Mark the lines and then got my trusty Dremel. I have the extension which comes in handy as I do get tired of carry the full weight of the Dremel - particularly during long cutting / sanding sessions. plus I feel I can be more accurate. -

Awesome work on the blaster conversion. -
Well that's disappointing to hear. Could there be two versions of this? I wonder as I've seen two versions with slightly different packaging - one rated at 3200 the other at 3450. Edit.. Here's the one rated at 3450. The 3200 has basically same packaging just says "epoxy plastic" vs "epoxy plastic bonder" and has a plastic yellow toolbox instead of the chair. ------------ Edit 2.. Found the other one. I just notice one has a 20 min set time vs 5 min. ---------- Plushie do you happen to remember which one you guys used?

Looking at the line of products from Devcon as my filler for larger gaps. I have both their S-6 and S-31 readily available, both seem to be rated up to 2500 psi. It seems the S-6 is meant more for metals and the S-31states its "all purpose" even though it doesn't list as bonding to plastics. I'm leaning towards the 31. Is that the right call? Edit - Another option available is loctite's epoxy plastic bonder rated at 3450 psi.

The boxes have arrived! As others I'm starting with the usual box arrival pic. Need to take everything out and lay it on the floor and make sure everything is there and undamaged. Got a confirm from the garrison that I'm the first TFA in Japan.

So where are we on boots? Currently everyone with a TFA armor is using TK boots as there is no clear and/or available alternatives. Is the thinking that TK boots are OK for tier 1/basic approval?

My memory is foggy on this but I vaguely recall seeing something about Kevin Weir working on this prototype.
