  1. Welcome, Rick!  I always suggest building your own armor.  Yes, it can be frustrating, sometimes painful, and you may find curse words in your vocabulary you never thought you knew.  BUT... it has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had, and really not that hard with all the help you can get here on the FISD.  When you finally suit up completely for the first time, you will be proud of all the time it took.  Plus, you will have the knowledge to do any repairs that may (will) arise down the road.  All the best to you in your journey!

Side note:  If you choose to do a TK, you can always double as a Heavy Weapons Trooper (hint hint... ;)) with a few minor adjustments and a bigger weapon, (DLT-19, T-21, etc.)

  2. Hi Tim!  Actually, the blaster they advertise is 150 English pounds, which translates into over $230.00, plus shipping.  Not sure what you mean by "solid", but if you are looking for a blaster that you can drop and not be worried about it breaking, I would go with one of slavefive's Hyperfirm E-11s.  You could probably drop one out of an airplane and it would just bounce a bit.  If by solid you mean "authentic" (ish), you could go with a full Doopydoos or other full resin kit build.  You can really modify the kits to get some amazingly accurate results, but I would not recommend letting a child (or adult) hold it for photos, as it can be damaged if dropped.  Tears of sadness are hard to detect behind dark green lenses.

  3. Welcome, Orson!  Yes, a LOT of people have ordered the Anovos kits, but ATA and TM are great as well.  Apparently, the Anovos TK armor won't be shipping until later this year, but that could give you time to get the supplies you will need, do TONS of research, and ask questions as needed.  Not sure what part of Florida you are in, but most squads host "armor parties", where you can learn a lot, and meet some of your future TK friends.  You don't necessarily have to have your armor to attend these, but it sometimes helps to see things in person.  Best of luck on your white armor journey!

  4. Good thing you posted this, Paul.  If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is, and that is certainly the case here.  There are a few ebay sellers, including rattlehead, etc., that say their armor is  "501st approvable", but this one is certainly not..  I would highly suggest sticking with the vetted sellers here on FISD under the "Getting Started..." section.

  5. I actually purchased a set of this armor, Vern, before I "saw the light".   I put the kit together, including the bucket, and the thing that stood out most was the fact that the helmet was damned near as wide as the chest.  It looked like a bobble-head, and was actually laughable at how wide it was.  I briefly considered making it into a koi pond, but thought that the koi might be embarrassed to be seen in it.

  6. Run..., run as fast as you can from this seller.  A complete waste of money, unless you are looking for a crappy Halloween costume with a helmet that could fit Frankenstein's monster, with room to spare.  Check out the "Getting Started..." section here on the FISD, and research "The various types of armor, and where to buy them"..  Steer clear of anything on ebay, no matter what they say about 501st approval.

  7. Hi, Felix, and welcome to the home of white armor!  You have taken the biggest step, and now it is just a waiting game for "Big Brown Box" day!  From what I have read, it will be later this year before they start shipping, so by the time it arrives you should be well versed in all the basics.  I am sure that there will be a LOT of build threads popping up around the same time, so that will certainly give you lots of references to help you out.

I am thinking that you know by now to "be prepared" for when you get it, and a big part of that is to stay organized.  Have your supplies ready and on-hand when you need them, research, stay focused, and ask questions, but most of all....  have FUN with it!  Best of luck on your TK journey, sir!

  8. Received my hyperfirm T-21 recently, and was struggling to find something to use for the tubing on the barrel.  Then, I was at Advanced Auto parts, and saw black rubber windshield washer tubing by the foot.  PERFECT!  It also worked for the piece that extends from the ones that cover the base of the barrel.  I just cut it into lengths to fit around the barrel, and super-glued it on.  Yes, there are joins at the bottom, but who ever looks there?  The greeblies in the pic I also made, as well as the rear sight... took me just about an hour or two.  If you need any more info., just PM me.20150709_110054_resized_zpstf1cmvkp.jpg

  9. EXCELLENT advice from Bone, Airick.  I would definitely start a build thread, and post LOTS of detailed pics of your successes and set-backs.  This would make it much easier for us to give you any help you may need, and help you keep track, having everything in one place.  If you are having trouble posting photos, (as I did in the beginning), just PM me, and I will help you all I can.  All the best!
