  1. Looking GREAT, Jay!  I have always heard that "you can't have too many magnets or clamps", but you may have proved everyone wrong!  Fantastic job on the bucket, sir, it is truly a work of art.  Tony (ukswrath) has helped me out on many occasions, and offered lots of guidance in more than one area, so I would heed his advice, (especially when it becomes time to join the HWT ranks... hint hint nudge nudge) ;)

  2. Welcome to your new home, Chris!  To be honest, I wouldn't worry too much about "Ruining a good set of armor".  The fact is, there are literally hundreds of fine folks on here that want you to succeed, and are willing to help you out with every question you may have, no matter how inane you think it may be...  We have all been there!  Once you choose your armorer, check out the build threads that are particular to them, and many of your queries will be answered.  The amount of information on here is truly staggering, and you must do a LOT of research, but I give you my word that all your hard work will be worth it the day you are approved, go out on your first troop, and know that you built this kit yourself!  Also, like Daniel said, search out your local Garrison for additional support, and don't forget to check out the EIB and Centurion sections for more detailed information on accuracy.

You probably have a bit of a wait on your armor, so I would suggest getting all your supplies in order, and perhaps ordering your E-11 kit to make the time go by faster.  All the best to you on your TK journey!

  3. Hi Andrew!  First, I would trim them down pretty hard, almost to the actual ridges.  (I found this out the hard way, and had to remove and re-do my old ones).   As far as placement, you can look at close-ups on the various approved EIB and Centurion submission photos for a good reference.  If you take a quick look at my EIB submission post, (TK 10963) it shows that the outside was sticking out WAY too far, and the straps were too close to my neck.  In the attached photo, I have a new chest plate and straps, (for my future Centurion submission), and I believe these are mounted correctly, or HOPE they are!  Hope this helps!

  4. Which coils are you referring to, Brian?  There is one coiled spring inside the barrel, but I wouldn't suggest copper for that.  If you mean the small, 1/2 inch coils that go from the Hengstler counter to the power cylinders, you can use a small section of the power cord from an electric shaver.  If this is what you meant, and don't happen to have any just lying around, (most people don't), just PM me and I will send you a set at no charge to help you out, (and take care of the postage).

  5. The thing with Doopydoos (you can Google them, and search E-11), is that their website can literally sell out of these kits within minutes.  If they are out of stock when you go there, they have a "contact me when item is back in stock" option.  If you do get the email, order it immediately, and be prepared to wait.  (up to 6 weeks), and don't even think about communication with them.  It's sort of "You'll get it when you get it" deal, but you will get it.  It is a good kit, though, and a lot of fun to mod.

  6. Welcome to the FISD, Erik!  There are several choices for both blasters and boots.  I started out with a Hasbro blaster, then bought the Doopydoos upgrade kit.  Then, I went with the Doopydoos full resin kit, and had a great time building it.  There is also "Hyperfirm" style available.  They are one piece, molded, and you can almost drop them from an airplane with no major damage, which is good for trooping.   I would look in the weapons section for E-11, and under "articles for sale or trade".  As far as boots, the only two quality ones that I am aware of are TKboots, and Imperial Boots.  I have the Imperial boots, and love em.

You kind of have to dig around for more information, but hopefully this helps.  All the best!

  7. Oops.. Sorry it took so long for the last pics.  Thought I had them all on there, but thanks for the heads-up, Tony!  My apologies, but I did not get a back shot of the bucket.  Level 3 is next!  I just received my new chest plate, kidney and AB from ATA today, so as soon as I get them trimmed, sanded, painted, strapped, and the rivets attached, I am on my way!  I appreciate your input!!!!!

  8. If I can chip in my 2 cents worth, I must say that I am now ATA's biggest fan!  While I am not sure about ANOVOS' customer service, (I have no experience with them), I am beyond pleased with not only the communication, but with the lightning fast speed that ATA shipped me some requested armor parts to replace some of my @M pieces for Centurion.  I honestly wish I would have gone with them in the first place when I purchased my kit.  IMHO I would stick with something tried and true, which I KNOW will be approved.

  9. Howdy back atcha', Thomas, and a big WELCOME to the FISD!  Glad to hear that you have your armor on the way, and know that you are in the right place!  Big Brown Box day will arrive sooner than you think, so be prepared...  Get all of your supplies together, spend an inordinate amount of time on research, take tons of notes, start a build thread when it arrives, and most importantly, have FUN with it!  In the meantime, I would suggest checking out the build threads, as well as the EIB and Centurion requirements, and getting all the "extras" ready, (body suit, boots, etc.)  Also, you can order and work on your weapon while waiting, which will give you valuable experience with E-6000, clamps, paint and such.  Feel free to ask any and all questions you may have, and best of luck on your TK journey!

  10. Hola!  I have up for grabs 2 shoulder straps for those looking to join the ranks of HWTs.  I recently upgraded my chest plate, and since the straps were glued on to the old one, I figured I could cut them off so a future fellow HWT could use them as the greeblie for the long PVC tube on the right hand side of the back-pack.  Mind you, since they are going to be cut, they cannot be used for anything else.  Also, they will have to be shaped a little with a heat gun (or hair dryer set on hot) to fit the PVC tube.  Please post here before PMing me if interested.  I will pay the postage.

On a side note:  If there is anyone in the central FL. area interested in becoming a HWT, I have the main two items listed in Templar726's AWESOME HWT backpack build, (the oil pan and the "Pop-It" containers) for you.  Also free. New and unused.  (You gotta pick them up, though, as postage is over 50 bucks...seriously).   I would ask that you send some photos of your build, so I know that you are not just in it for the free storage containers! LOL

  11. Victor, if you will be (hopefully) shooting for EIB or Centurion, I would consider getting some templates from Trooperbay.  The ones that came with you AM kit are fine for basic approval, and can be removed at a later time.  If you do decide to use the templates, I can give you a handy hint that I learned on here...  After you get them in the right position, go over them with a (light) coat of WHITE paint first.  What this will do is seal the edges, prevent the desired color from bleeding around the edges, and give you clean, crisp lines.  Just remember to let it (the white) dry for a few minutes before applying the desired color, and do not leave the template on too long, or it may peel up whatever paint you have applied.  Sounds tricky but it's not, I promise.  If I remember correctly they send you a couple of sets, so you can practice on some spare ABS.  Hope this helps!  On a side note:  EIGHTY magnets???   Good Heavens, I hope there's no one in your neighborhood with a pacemaker!  LOL

  13. Yes, Kainoa, let it cool down on it's own.  You don't have to wait for it to get completely cool during the shaping process, but no need to use water.  Also, you might want to attach the Velcro to the one with the cover strip as a test, as it looks pretty close to where it needs to be.  You can always remove it if not, but don't re-use it, and remove it before heating again.

  14. I would probably steer clear of the boiling water method, Kainoa.  I had the same problem with mine, and what I did was to purchase a heat gun at Lowe's, (usually around $25.00).  Then, I taped them up to the closed position, set them on concrete, and pointed the gun inside.  But be SURE to do it gradually, and don't overheat them, or they will become misshapen.  Also, make sure the final product is not closed all the way.  I have about a 1 1/2 inch gap, which the Velcro holds together just fine.

  15. Good call on the belt, Tony!  As far as getting suited up, Joe, I put on my thighs first, then the calves, (but leave them open in the back).  That way I can sit down, slide on my boots, and than secure the backs of the calves.  It does take a little practice, though.  After that comes the rest of the armor.  Also, there is always someone around on a troop who will be glad to help you out with putting other parts on.

  16. Welcome to the FISD, Richard!  First, glad to hear that you got rid of the ebay armor, (I did the same thing), and are on the right track.  Yes, the is a wealth of information here, and lots of great folks to help you along the way!  Lots of research to do, but feel free to ask any questions that you are having trouble finding the answers to.  All the best in your TK journey!

  17. Welcome to the FISD, Mark!  I know exactly what you mean...  I was also 13 when Star Wars came out, and believe it or not, I saw it over 70 times (seriously) before it finally left the theatre.  Overkill, probably... but now I'm livin the dream, and you will soon be too!  All the best on your build, future TK.

  18. Definitely Wagners' "Ride of the Valkyries"...  One of my favorite movie scenes was the Army helicopters storming the beach in Apocalypse Now, blaring it full blast.  Still gives me chills.
