I'm still working on the torso, so I can't really take photos of it all together.

As I said, just test fitting right now.
It seems when it's in a more comfortable spot when the low end covers my knee.
I'm thinking at this stage I might need to need to take off a half to an inch.
I'll come back to this once I've got my torso sorted and get an idea how it'll all fit together.

Hey folks,

I'm currently working on test fitting and making my thigh armour feel right.

I'm assuming the bottom of the thigh armour should sit just above the knee and the top should sit just under the butt cheek and hip so it doesn't dig in front and back. At the moment I think I can afford to remove about a half to an inch off the top to stop it digging in.

Advice is appreciated in advance :)t

I bought Nike compression wear from their online store. I expected it to be fairly expensive considering how much I've seen other brands for in stores. But the Nike gear was cheap in comparison. IIRC it was Nike Pro Cool or Hypercool, One logo on the left shin and one on the left chest/brest area all covered by armour. Good thing is they stock it in both AU and US online stores. I actually found it hard to find anything close to just plain black, a lot of deptartment/sports stores all had them with coloured graphics and stuff all over them. Most of the time anything close to what would be acceptable was near the $100 mark or more just for a top or bottom. My Nike top and bottom I got delivered to my door next day for like $70 or so, So i was pretty chuffed about that.

Thanks for the encouragement Tony, I'm on the big push to get it done. We have OzComicon Sydney coming up in September, goal is set
-
Thanks Tony, I wasn't aware of that. I've rounded out the corners on my calves, biceps and forarms, probably wouldnt be hard to chamfer them with a small file. I've also been taking the sharp top edge off them like in your thread
-
I've decided I'll go third time lucky on the forearms and make another set of cover strips. I'll knock out all of the strips for all of my limbs while I'm at it and be a bit more cautious about it this time.... And no chopping cover trips after night shift. Hence the reason on third attempt.

When the pics won't link property, just got to attach! Or not.... Just click the other link for photo

Sorry for lack of updates folks, I'm not even sure where the time goes. Biceps are done, Shoulder bells done. calves half done, forearms half done. Bucket still needs ears... I hate the ears. Forearms i could use some advice on. Not sure if i should re-do the coverstrips, they seem a bit short. But I haven't taken off all the return edge yet.

Thanks Tony, I am a fan of clean lines.
I might try it in reverse, outer first and do the inners after.

Now to buy more glue... I ran out already
-
Hey Tony, Love this thread, I've found it very helpful. Thanks Just a question about cover strips, have you found that the inner strips can make the outer a little uneven? I found with my biceps, it worked perfectly. But the join in the forarms came out a little uneven when gluing in the outer strip. Maybe the pulling process with the ABS makes it a little thin and thicker in places. that would be a guess on my part. I'm half considering doing the forarms again so the outside strips are more flush.

Sorry for the lack of update fellas. Powering through now. Sides are drilled and attached. One thing I noticed is the cap n back is out of shape. See the last photo. I trimmed the mask to the edge of the flushing, hindsight I should have left some. The right side has a bit of gap, but I'm sure the ears will cover it. Also need to work out how to safely apply a little heat to the bottom front corners of the cap n back to pull them flush with the mask.

Helmet works. Smoothing out the brow line, looks like I need to raise it a bit and bring it back a little more for the brow to line up with the lines on the Also thinking about what to do with the bottom of the tube where it flares out. Not sure if I should leave it as it is and see how it goes once I attach the mask and trim it then, or put a little heat on it and bring it in some. I'm thinking also much of the flared out bottom will go once I trim it down for the S-Trim.

Sorry for the lack of updates folks, last few months have been busy with doing a Officer costume and racing my car. Thankfully the Officer is done and there's only one more race with the car this year(leading my class in the club championship, giggity) so my weekends are opening up. I have been to my first amour party with my garrison and another coming in a few weeks IIRC. Made some good head way on the bucket, got the face mask pretty well done. Might need to work on the teeth some more to make them more even. Currently working on the part of the bucket I call "the mullet" because it looks like a bad hair cut. And then get the ears on which I've also done some basic trimming on. The goal is to have the bucket completed before movie release so I can take along to our private screening of Ep7. Obviously I'd like more done, but I'll see where things land between now and then. Hopefully all the Christmas parties and 501st events don't eat too much time up on the weekends.
-
Hey folks,
I was sure I had seen where to put my 501st number, but I cannot find it in the User CP anymore.
I thought it was between Name and 501st Unit, or am I missing something?
-
Thanks Steve, I wish I could report some significant progress but haven't done much. Seems as soon as it landed, my weekends got busy all of a sudden. I've done a bit of trimming of the excess here n there, gathered bit n pieces.and prep work. Not to mention more reading.

Anyone had any luck contacting Trooperbay? I've sent three emails, even tried sending a message via the eBay page without a response. EDIT: Never mind, The old speak of the devil thing happened

I was thinking a few weeks ago about a thread like this, but wasn't sure of I should or not. I'm a petrol head from way back. Have mainly been in to Fords and Mazda rotaries. I had a nice classic Australian Falcon, was such a nice cruiser. Unfortunately it became impractical as a family car and I moved on. But with the loss of the old beast came a "daily driver" which turned into a project. So enter the little blue beasty, my Mirage hatch, or Colt as they call it in the UK. It's not exactly the stock 68kw slug it used to be... Makes the daily commute tolerable And much fun to drag race and take to the skid pan. And that ^^^^^ guys is why the Mrs is happy for me to troop, it costs a lot less, lol Still an on going project, but it never ends I guess. #carmoddinglife

I think I'll start off with this, If you haven't seen it before its a great watch. I'll show it to my daughter if the day ever comes. My mum was/has been been a closest Trekkie & Dr Who fan from way back, as a kid she got me in to Star Wars, Praise the lord... Vader! So I was never short of the toys, figures and movies growing up. I wish I knew where they were today. I went through a Trekkin phase(mum's fault), a MaCgyver phase that turned in to a Stargate phase, both of which ended. But Star Wars never dies and has always been there and I think will be for a long time to come. I've had my fair share of mates who either embrace it, or put me down for it, but those close to me know I'm more than the sum of all my parts, so to speak. They know there is more to me than my love for Sci-fi. One minute you'll see me watching Star Wars Rebels, next minute, Sons of Anarchy, The Walking Dead or NASCAR. And I think that's what some people miss, they don't see the whole picture. They mainly see Andrew the car guy, who occasionally makes Star Wars related comments on Facebook or wears a nerdy Transformers or Star Wars t-shirt. If I were to tell you that go drag racing or take my car out to track days at least once a month you may not believe me, but its how I've been getting my thrills for the last few years. I know guys who spend tens of thousands of dollars on their cars only to sit in car parks at night and chat o each other or sit in open fields for show days to win a trophy and they call that enjoyment. How ever they often don't enjoy the attention it brings from the police, something I too have felt this year when my car of defected, but I over came it and got it passed and legal. Yay for me To me these days, it seems a little crazier than this. Tons of money spent for self enjoyment that sites outside majority of the time, or being brought down a few notches by Five-0 and your car off the road. And most people would call that "Normal" If I had of spent as much money on building suits with the 501st as I have cars over the years, It would be like Tony Starks "House Party Protocol". Now that seems a little weird and crazy if you put it in perspective. Anyhow, being that I cannot make anymore progress on my TK build at this time, I'm going outside now to flare the guards on my car so I can put bigger tyres under it for more traction before I hit the raceway again in two weeks. Crazy and weird... I love it Rant over

Dyeing Black Boots White
ARC replied to Palpatine1977's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Where do you get white fabric dye from? I can't seem to find it anywhere -
Thanks mate, it's a bit more feet first than you may think. I've been living on the modified car scene for the better part of 20 years, this is my first costume. So you could say I'm on a bit of a learning curve. The boots are 98% done. Just a few touch ups to do on the elastics if anything. The dye I got was more of a watered down paint rather than a dye, took a few coats. I've watered it down a little more and kept on applying layers. I'm pretty happy with them
