  1. Yah just to add a note about acetone... WEAR GLOVES NO MATTER WHAT I was arrogant enough to say "Ahh f*ck it, I won't get any on my hands". And I didn't. However, what did happen is my hands broke out in a rash. They're fine now but still, it sucked. The fumes are extremely - if not more - toxic than the actual liquid. You should take every precaution before you work with it.
  2. Interesting! Was it ever in the movies? Or was it added to darken the helmet interior for balaclava-less trooping (ie hiding face for pictures).
  3. I can't stop looking at this, it's so beautiful. One little thing, do you have frown mesh? It doesn't appear to be visible in the photos.
  4. Oh no! Feel better soon Vern! Do I need to steal a Tauntaun and go look for you and my package?
  5. Looking good! Now put on a smile and it'll be perfect
  6. Yet another road block was the unleashing of the belts. Ready to wear means that AP riveted the ammo belt through the canvas belt into the torso. I had to carefully destroy the rivet, re-rivet the ammo belt to the canvas belt, add correct drop box loops and introduce snaps that would attach to the body next to the old holes. I don't exactly have 'before' photos but will post the mods later. The other tricky part was un-doing the knee ammo belt that was also riveted into the right thigh. I wanted proper cap rivets and I also needed to trim/resize the thighs. The initial placement of the belt looks okay but it was still nerve racking to get that rivet out and not destroy the hole in the process. I'm feeling more and more confident and stoked to say that I'm finally done resizing the legs - so I now have the arms and legs fitting comfortable and snug like white plastic spandex. I should be getting most of my final items today so I can assemble the strapping system this weekend and finally throw on the armor for test fits (I'm sad to say I didn't even bother trying on the ready-to-wear velcro system the first day ). These modifications for Centurion have been really tough, tougher than assembling (what I believe to be) the correct way from the start. I'm starting to think I ordered a lemon or at least a lime that was impersonating a lemon . I'm wishing I had ordered a trimmed set more and more, but I'm learning so much about the build and myself in the process.
  7. Squirrel fans have the most control over placement and direction. Check out Ingrid's variables and how to wire them here: --------------
  8. Since it's AP, technically it can be a little wonky. You can tilt the left side up and bring that wing in to the shin a bit more. Here's a thread where I posed the sniper plate question: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/22551-anh-sniper-plate-issue/#entry282264
  9. I took up Ingrid's info and ordered a dual squirrel fan setup with 4 2xAA packs from Allelectronics.com. I distributed the weight of the AA packs at the front/back to weigh down the helmet just enough to feel like a real lid. The low voltage it keeps you cool and the 6V are much quieter and last longer than a 9V. Check out her electronics doc here: https://docs.google....cLebRS9xSg/edit
  10. That's true, it ends up matching the Dave M decals pretty spot on! I'd say, Kevin, if you're happy with it then roll with it! I only know what I would do
  11. It appears to still be a bit wonky there on the curvature. If I were you I'd order another set of decals that have the proper curve and alignment and work on other parts while you wait. Alignment isn't bad but you could go crazy trying to recurve those stripes correctly. I weigh time vs money accordingly and would bite the bullet on a new set. But that's just my opinion.
  12. This pic also furthers the "be yourself" mantra, regardless of age. --------------
  13. I have my 2nd due in May, a boy! It's my little way of (geek) nesting.
  14. Just be glad it's an easy fix. I've already had a few OS (oh sh*t) moments with the armor that I thought weren't savable but ended up fixable. There's a price to learning - it gets invested with your kit
  15. We also need to see how screen accurate your mustache is. Good luck with your app!
  16. I'm 32 and have nothing but respect for you veterans
  17. Omg Barry, this cracked me up so much but felt your pain tremendously at the same time. I must say, I love reading your updates and I'll be sending good production vibes your way. I think the most painful thing I realized after reading most of the build threads after I got my pre-assembled armor (mistake #1) is that perfection can't be created overnight but can be modified with time. I think what you're learning via the small fitting pieces, like biceps, is saving you from more devastating results. Great fix on the cover strip. Since my dive into the crazy amount of knowledge here, I try to read and keep reading the FISD and reach out in the various sections of the forum and illustrate my questions with photos when I can. There's a lot of great, caring people here that have a passion to pass down experience. The other difficult thing I'm personally tasked with is looking at my armor and going OMG I WANT TO PUT ALL THIS ON RIGHT MEOW but alas that doesn't and can't happen yet. Focus, focus and focus and you'll get there eventually like we all will and have. You did an awesome cut job on the bucket - don't concern yourself with easy fixes, they just take time (ordering, waiting for delivery).
