Jesse.... I cut some white plastic and put them over my overlap shins a test. It looked ridiculous. I wish I had taken my time to just cut the overlaps and put cover strips over them. It would have been a bunch more work but looked great in the end. My next RT kit I plan to get untrimmed and do just that... but it seems these days that Rob will trim your kit in preparation of cover strip construction and send cover strips material to you.

If/when the new CRL changes go through you won't be able to go centurion with overlap, but you'll still look like a kickbutt TK.

    Aloha,

Ha thanks Eric, so do you recommend just removing them and putting cover strips over them?

  2. I think I've seen it, but the problem is that it doesn't look as how you're imagining it. So there is no upside to doing so. And you don't loose any structural integrity by using coverstrips if you do it properly.

Mathias, I have a question as for the cover strips. My RT-MOD armor already has the overlap method on it so what do I do so it won't look bad if I put cover strips on it?

  3. WOW MAN!! you ended up posting them like I told you :). They look amazing! Glad to be able to see them. Let me take a guess but I am not sure if I am correct, are you a star wars fan? hahaha jk, man those look insanely wicked! :). Jealous!

  4. To clarify... align the bottoms.... and don't worry about how the top of the back of the thigh will line up. The top of the fronts will line up nicely regardless.

Alright I got it, thanks guys. So as for getting the thighs to the same fit as my thighs I cut where the armor overlaps?

  5. Can we help you with cover strips ?

They look infinitely better overall and are required definitely for Centurion.

Here are a few tips to help you with cover strips.

You will need an extra pair of hands, or ...

    some rare earth magnets

    Some plastic spring clamps

    Or

    Plastic weld

I need to write a tutorial on how to do this with plastic weld first then add cover strips.

    Yea please make 1 lol

  6. Okay, I'm trying to tape off my ATA helmet to paint it and that green Frog tape is USELESS. I'm not sure if it's because I'm a greasy Italian or I don't know how to work tape, but you stick it on, it pops up again. I've found that plain masking tape works just fine. I've got a roll that was in the back of a drawer since the Carter administration and it worked FINE with no peelage and no bleeding.

    Grrr... sorry... had to vent.

Lmao! Sorry had to laugh when you said you have masking tape since the carter administration and it works great compared to that Crap lol

  7. I say align the bottom and worry about the top later. Just use E-6000 so you can fix it later... chances are you'll want to shrink the diameter of your thighs some. I trimmed mine and I wanna trim some more.

    -Eric

But by trimming don't you take away the way it looks?

    >>Yea i figured that. I mean I did not plan to finish it over my winter break, just get ahead of my work :). I am having trouble with the cover strip since mine is the RT-MOD build and already has the molder cover grove over the armor. I need suggestions on that.<<

If you plan to do the butt-join, you simply trim the front pieces with that molded ridge to the width you want, and then apply the cover strip over it. Mine have a teeny bit of molded edge sticking out the sides of the cover strip, front and back. I'm not sure that's exactly right, but look at some of the screen shots in the reference library to be sure, or dig into some of the EI and Centurion submission photos. And this tutorial. ------------Hope that helps :D

If you do overlap, someone else should give you pointers because I would hate to steer you wrong :D

Thanks Ingrid! I have a question is it just me or does this not look right?

  9. Take your time, if you have the suit to build just do one little thing at a time :) Trim a forearm here, glue a cover strip there... half hour here, hour there... whatever it takes. It took me 3 months so don't sweat it. Having the "winter break" type of time to cram is great but glue still takes time to cure, so plan accordingly :)
