  1. Is something like this the clear coat you used? I also got some hammered paint, but I don't want a glossy look. http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=164
  2. OMG I made a scope rail! Having never attempted anything like this ever, I'm surprised at how not hard this is to do (not hard != easy). Took me a good chunk of the afternoon. If you can use a hacksaw and follow instructions, you should be able to get through making one of these. View from the top and my backwards rear site (hadn't drilled the back hole yet) I just put the strip in a vice, guided the long end down with one hand while pounding at the base with a hammer and it bent real easy. My dad has all the cool tools and stuff, so don't go thinking I'm some whiz with tools and such but this really isn't that hard. This is what I used for the scope rail. Picked it up at Lowes. This is for the hengstler bracket. It sucks I only need a few inches of this stuff... Ok, now this is where things went south. After making the hengstler bracket all nice and pretty I started to screw it into the counter. I got one screw in fine, but the second one cracked the resin. I have since filled it in with some glue and should be salvageable. I'm just using normal wood screws. I tried a smaller screw on the scope and it cracked as well. WTF? I'm thinking I'll just sacrifice some screen accuracy and forget the screws and just glue this sob on unless anyone has any suggestions. Help please!
  3. Attached the "folding" stock. I glued it in three places (where the rubber bands are) and it's holding great. What is generally used to fill in this gap?? Now on to the scary scope rail! I think I'm going to attempt to make one myself and see how it goes. Hopefully I can find the right kind of metal strip at Lowes or something...
  4. This is a day that will be long remembered.... Looks so coooool! Can't wait for mine. I hope Mr. ATA is getting close to completing my kit Good luck on the build!
  5. Making some progess. The glue I got feels really solid. So far I feel pretty good about it. I got almost all the small bits and pieces on. The "folding" stock has been glued and is drying elsewhere before I attach it to the main body. I drilled out another hole since it was recommended by some. Pretty sure it will just get covered up anyway. Mostly, it was just for fun I'm pretty sure I put the rear sight on backwards...hopefully that doesn't cause too much of a problem. Also drilled out the resin at the front of the barrel for the real screw head things...I might need to drill out a little more???
  6. I bought a baseball helmet and ripped the padding out of it. Didn't use all of it. Just enough to make it snug. Works great for me. Probably just depends on head shape???
  7. Thanks for the input on the glue! I've glued a few small pieces (including the broken piece) with what I already have and it seems to be holding really well. The only large piece I have on so far is the grip handle and all the small pieces that go on it. The glue sets in about five minutes and I will let it cure overnight. Sorry no pics....yet
  8. My doopy doos kit finally came! Now to figure out how in the world this thing works Looks like the a piece of the magazine was broken during shipping, but it should glue back together ok. I plan on picking up one of Evilboy's scope rails for this too, as I really suck at any sort of metal work. -------- Here is the glue I plan on using. Should this be ok? -----------
  9. looking great man. I'll definitely be using your thread for reference The lid looks really weird in a mirror, huh
  10. I just got mine. I'm normally a 10 1/2 and I bought size 10. They fit great.
  11. I agree for the teeth. trim a bit more. I used testors paint and the trooperbay stencils on mine. Had to do a bit of cleanup on the tube stripes, but it's nothing a toothpick and some thinner can't handle.
  12. Looks like you found your paint, but I used testors on mine and it worked great. I'm happy with out it turned out. Happy building!
  13. jealous...still waiting for mine
  14. I used padding from a baseball helmet in mine
  15. this is pretty much the coolest thing ever
  16. Woot! Got the rest of the painting done. I'd say this thing is about finished. I'll probably paint the screws on the ears white so they are less visible. I ended up finding some french blue paint at a hobby shop and used that instead of the bright blue I already had. The only thing is that it's acrylic and I'm a little worried about how easily it can get messed up if it gets wet at all. Any ideas for a good paint sealer?? I hand painted the ears and just used some intuition to make it look good. I ended up getting the trooperbay decals for all the stripes and used my brother's air brush to paint them. I'm really happy with the way this has turned out. Thanks to all the other build threads and tutorials that acted as my guide!! I ended up ripping out the padding from a baseball helmet I got at sports authority. Had to trim it down a bit, but it works pretty well. Nice and snug. It's connected with velcro.
  17. Riveting was the scariest part for me, but I survived. I riveted the bottom and ended drilling a separate hole for the bottom of the ears. They were pretty close to the rivet...almost too close I like the idea of using one hole for the bottom of the ear and the connection for the bottom of the lid. It would be a lot cleaner, but probably a little more difficult to make sure everything stays lined up while you drill the hole. Depends on how strong the force is with your clamps (pun intended). Oh and I used scissors to get the general shape for my ears, then fine tuned it SLOWLY with a dremel.
  18. oooo I just found these. looks pretty good. anyone tried these?? http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=5172
  19. nm, I see one on your build thread. thx
  20. thanks for that. I was thinking I'd go check out sports authority or something and see what I could find. If you have a pic, that'd be great.
  21. looks great! you've given me inspiration for the tube stripes
  22. I received this email on the 20th: Hi Jay, The moment the boots arrive here in approx. 12 days, we'll begin shipping via our back order lists and when you submit the order, you can list the size you need. This way i won't make any errors:)
  23. Finally starting to look like a real lid! Got the mic tips installed and two coats of grey on everything. Just need to do the tubestripes, ears, and stripes in the back and on the tears. This is the paint I've been using. Sorry it's blurry. It's Testors grey, gloss black, and bright blue. Picked up some thinner too. Saved me a couple times great for cleaning the brushes too
