Also, when in use on your armour, keep the armour far away from other items being held with magnets or magnetic items, as they will suddely find there way to connection and mess up your gluing handiwork.

    Good luck.

Don't let this happen to you:

My ab & kidney plates were about a foot apart on my work bench when they decided to 'get together'

  2. Since joining the 501st on 6/30/12 I have done 6 official and 5 'unofficial' troops and have 4 more official on the calendar between now and 12/1/12, and on at least one of those we will be stopping at other venues on the same day. (Edit: My numbers don't include armor parties and Squad lunches - but there have been 4 of those (lunch turned into an armor party after we left the restaurant)).

CASA superhero run has been my favorite so far, but I am REALLY looking forward to Wizard World in 2 weeks - it is rumored we'll be Patrick Stewart's escort, but that is unconfirmed at this time

  3. I survived the "Vegas-esque Beach Themed Mall" - very appropriate description Eric :) I did get to Duke's (twice!) and we also ventured away from Waikiki on a few occasions.

Naturally, we didn't cover everything we wanted to do while there - 5 days isn't nearly enough time...we were kind of on a budget that got blown out of the water very quickly, but it was an awesome experience and we can't wait to go back. We started a list of stuff we didn't get to do and are formulating a plan to get to the other islands as well...so it will probably be a 10-14 day trip next time, and you can imagine how long it will take to afford that kind of trip (bringing the kiddos along as well).

Probably my favorite experience was learning to surf with Hawaiian Fire - I did manage to get up and ride a few waves but also spent my share of time falling off. And as you can see below, I was representing the Empire, thanks to Barricade's undershirt run :)

  4. We had three troops rolled together in one here for the Central Texas Squad. Commander Fil's son had a birthday party, we took a quick shopping trip to Whole Foods, and then back for Star Wars Reads at BookPeople. Busy, but a blast, as you can see below. 5. (Mods - I meant to post this in Field Training - please move)

Quick disclaimer: I am not a fan of the football team we associated with but the opportunity for local (and somewhat national) exposure was too great to pass up!

My Squad had the opportunity to do a video shoot on the Longhorn Network, an ESPN subsidiary that carries the University of Texas at Austin Longhorns. Their away game uniforms are all white, and the coaching staff refers to them as their 'Stormtrooper' uniforms, so they wanted to do a tie-in with those and the 501st Legion armor. The shoot itself was fun - my armor was chosen for the 'suiting-up' part: putting on the arms, calf, helmet. They made me do those shots over...and over...and over. At first I thought I'd be getting a lot of 'face time' on camera, but they just zoomed in on the armor itself, which is fine. Two of my Squad were briefly interviewed, which turned out great! The sad part is that most of the players interviewed...didn't know what Stormtroopers are, much less Star Wars what is! Damn kids these days with their Jersey Shore & Honey Boo Boo...

One of the cool add-ins they did was translating names into Galactic Basic text and using TKIDs for the troopers interviewed :)

    Enjoy!

(quick note - for some reason the video doesn't play on my computer at home...but works on my Android tablet...apologies if you can't view it!)

  6. Hi Jason!

You should stay a week longer on Hawaii for when the Halloween fun starts, plus there's a small convention going on the 19th-21st :)

Anyways, if you haven't already added it, I'd say a visit to Pearl Harbor should be in the to-do/to-see list if you're into that kind of thing. If you like shrimp, go visit the North Shore, they have some very good garlic shrimp there (and if you don't like it, you should still visit it, it's such a big contrast with Waikiki). Something else you might like is the Polynesian Cultural Center, it's quite touristy but everyone I took there with me, always liked it. There's actually pretty much to do and to see here.. when I have family over for 3-4 weeks, they still don't have enough time to do it all lol. http://www.gohawaii.com/ might be an idea to take a look, there's quite a few of activities listed there, based on what your interest could be.

From what I understand, the outpost usually takes visitors out for a drink. If so, chances are I'll come down too :)

Btw, kind of unrelated question but since you mentioned the Star Garrison patches, I was wondering.. what did you guys made the Star Garrison temporary tattoos with? I received one with my aker/icomm and gave it to my daughter 2 weeks ago.. now, 2 weeks and many showers later, it's still on there haha. It's awesome quality :D

I don't know how Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona memorial slipped my mind! Definitely going to both places. Thanks for the link and recommendation of the Cultural Center.

As for the tattoos, I think someone in the North Texas Squad was responsible for those...we're flattered she is representing for us :)

  7. My wife & I will be staying at the Hilton Waikiki Beach next week (10/9-15) and I wanted to ask if there is anything we MUST see/do while we're there. We're already signed up for the usual tourist-y stuff (surfing lessons, helicopter ride, snorkleing). It is our first trip out there...and I'm not sure when we'll be able to return, so we'd like to see as much as possible.

If anyone lives near where we're staying I'd love to meet you in person - I won't have my armor with me (although I did debate bringing my bucket...) but will buy you a beer & have a Star Garrison patch or two with me. PM me if you're nearby.

    thanks!

  8. Looks like you had a fun troop.

Nice looking TK but my hat has to be doffed to the proto Fett.

Thanks for the compliment - it's funny that the rest of my Squad TEASES me about being a Centurion :)

Barricade's Fett is very impressive & detailed. There is a small greeble on the cheek of his helmet that he had to search high & low for...and he still hasn't found the exact Star Wars beach towel for his cape...

  9. Don't worry, that's not the "actual" droid you're looking for. :D

Whew! I was anticipating a force-choke by Lord Vader when I checked in at the end of my patrol...

Looks like a lot of fun and makes me want to sign my son up for our local Lego Club!

The kiddos did have a blast - our presence was just icing on the cake. There was one little girl dressed up like Princess Leia...our photographer didn't post it up to FB so I don't have it to post here...oh, and we had one of the 3 of us in front of the Victoria's Secret store, peering in through the windows :D

  10. Yup I have actually. The thing is that there's no CRL for it. So right now this is a pet project that I'm in no rush to complete. I suspect to do this character right will take about $1000+ ...

    Here's the 'unofficial' CRL:

Lightsabers can get pretty pricey - especially if you are going to get into sparring/dueling.

  11. Wow! Nice pics! So cool for you guys to go out and support the runners! :D Love the sandy's new skirt.

That last pic gave me goosebumps also! Very powerful, the delivery of it was.

The little boy in the picture does not speak English and was a bit scared to approach us at first. Fortunately, our Jango is fluent in Spanish and was able to get the boy talking and after that it was all good. I agree, it is a very powerful picture - Chris really nailed that shot.
