  1. Welcome, Mike!

I agree with Mark above: get a black shiny as your base. Locally you can get one from CAP-W and I think a few other makers (AM, ATA, ?) make black. I'm not sure so if you can't find that info here on FISD, look for it on Spec Ops.

Then, you can be 501st approved, and THEN...

I recommend you have a second set of shoulder bells and a second set of anything else that might be customized like the jerseys, and put stripes on those parts, and swap them out (they'll be snap-together parts) when you go between casual/con/non-501st events and official 501st like charity events etc.

Alternately, you can try some peel-and-stick vinyl that is not permanent, just peel on and peel off depending on your event.

    Good luck!

  2. I've made a pair of TB boots for my biker scout and those don't look anything like them. Plus TB's don't need to wear spandex leggings, they wear a loose jump suit.

I know I just think they look higher ankled and more rounded toe ... they also have some elvis boot looking thing in front... I'm guessing some kind of future TK like everyone else......... wish they'd stop teasing the animals! :)

  3. For some reason the Southern California Garrison site gives me an error when I use my laptop, but I can view it with no problem on my phone.

Marvin did we add you to the Academy yet? or Epic? I am so behind. Also PM me your IP address and I'll see if Victor can fix your access. We had a big attack from Russia or something and lots of people had to be re-added manually, so it's probably just that.

If you still have armor questions feel free to ask, sorry I'm so behind!!!

  4. HI!

    I'm Ingrid... and apparently I have a reputation... :P

Sorry I am computer challenged lately so I have been slow to get on and greet new folks!

LA! YAY! More min--I mean, uh, awesome shiny whites for Ingrid's Arm.... uh, I mean, the EMPIRE!!!

It's kind of a long process -- mostly waiting -- to get that TK up and running, so meanwhile I think everyone has told you where to go to get to know your local shinies, online and off, and of course this is still and will always be the best place to get everything you need and learn all you need to know to build it!

  5. Welcome, Jenny! There are lots of girls here (and smaller guys) who can help you along.

Don't worry, there's a lot of room in the chest piece for "the girls"... you'll probably have more room than I do for the Aker amp once you get to that point.

I say get a suit and build it all. I would get your hands dirty on some plastic before tackling a helmet.

    CHEERS!
    Ingrid

  6. I was going to say the trickiest parts were the sniper plate not lining up and probably the belt snaps into the ab piece. I thought the helmet would be hard but I enjoyed it the most. The knee ammo is a little bit of a challenge figuring out whose advice is correct for lining up the bumps, where to put the rivet, etc. I also built in a complete vacuum, going only by the awesomesauce here on FISD. Making snap plates and having my husband understand how to help me "wear" separate pieces of armor to determine where to put the snap plates so that the elastic would be the right length, etc.... that was a challenge for sure. In fact it still boggles my mind that my armor fits so nicely.

  7. I'm pretty sure any "new" armor makers would come up in FISD forums and be hotly scrutinized before being put on the vet list. 99.99999999% of ebay sales are bad FX recasters in foreign countries with questionable service. I have seen vetted armorers sell suits on ebay, but always good to ask first :)

  8. Welcome, John! This is the best place to get started.

Do a little research, decide which movie (or EU/game) style you want to emulate (they are all different), acquire the appropriate armor kit from one of our vetted hobbyist armorers. While you wait, review the CRL requirements as well as a few build threads to see what you're in for and to get answers to questions you'll eventually have. Also look into what you'll likely need in terms of tools, accessories, your costume's blaster requirements. Also, find and join your local garrison if you haven't already - the locals are usually keen to help you get up to speed with armor parties, etc.
