  1. The thousands of us who have built armor and documented it with great photos in a build thread........... at least hundreds of those can be converted to tutorials to help others. Don't think a tutorial has to be done a certain way or meet some criteria - if you are willing to donate your research, photos, and process, and others can replicate it, you have a tutorial on your hands like gold. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, let me know and I'll make it for you or help you with it.

  2. NEIGHBOR! Where in SFV do you live? Welcome to FISD. Be sure to also sign up at http://www.southerncaliforniagarrison.com/forums.

I have an armor party on November 9 in Sherman Oaks. It's mostly for guys with Stormtrooper costumes who are upgrading their suits, but everyone is welcome, especially new new new new TKs!!! You won't get better hands-on previews than that!

When you say "just a tease of what's to come" does that mean you're making a new suit, bye-bye Rubies? :)

    Cheers,

    Ingrid

  3. Love it.  Look forward to meeting you at some California events.  Question for you, any recommendations for armor in my size?  Would RS Props be the best?  I'm 5'6", muscular, but thin.  I know some of the armor is designed for people taller?  (I am not a little short for a stormtrooper. Seriously.)

HI! Most of the suits are a "standard size" (5'8-5'11). RS is a great suit and the guys love its accuracy. I have AP and it's what I call the skinny suit because the ab is a little shallower - I had to put shims on my sides to make it work. My friend Jennifer is 5'4" or something and she uses AP. There is a thread in Getting Started that compares two suits - I think an ATA trimmed for a smaller wearer and the other I can't remember what it is. Ultimately no matter what suit you get, it's all about trimming and figuring out how to fit pieces together and gluing and fun stuff. You can see some of my angst and ridiculousness in the build doc at the bottom of my signature below :)

I'm much farther south than you are but there will be times we can troop together if we travel a bit! :D

  4. Welcome, Jacqui! Lady troopers abound!

All troopers have to tweak their armor to fit their unique bodies, so it all depends on your size/shape. I'm 5'11" so there's almost no difference in terms of "girl fit" though my thighs are proportionately different and that was a major challenge (but it is for most guys, too).

As you go, if you have any lady-specific questions, you can ask just about any of us and we're happy to share and help.
