  1. So there's no definite source or proof what material the gloves were, we can just judge the look of one's gloves and compare that to the screen caps ? Okay. I'd take the "accurate" out of the thread title because we don't know what acutally is "accurate" but I don't know how to edit the title.
  2. Oopsie, "silk" not "nylon". Dammit, should have checked the CRLs before all this "accurate" stuff. Just to get this right: They would be no problem for Centurion but they are not screen accurate because they are nylon not silk ?
  3. "Accurate" in terms of Centurion Requirements, I'm not sure if it's known/proven what gloves were used on screen exactely (Accurazis enlight me !). Edit: They should be okay for Centurion, however, they aren't screen accurate. Check discussion below for details ! Here's the shop I ordered, website is in german, maybe you can get Google Chrome to translate it properly or try to figure out the ordering, it's a direct link to the gloves: --------- They provide international shipping, here are the details: --------- The gloves are of a very good quality, other nylon gloves I ordered were slightly cheaper but also very thin and so small I couldn't even fit them over my hand completely. I ordered both sizes M and L and L fits a bit better but the difference between M and L isn't that big. As a reference: My canvas trooper gloves that trooperbay sold/still sells are M. Here are some pics: --------- Hope this helps, have fun sewing the handguards to the gloves
  4. Hey there, nice build, you already got a lot of feedback so it should be easy to become Centurion. A little remark that might not affect Centurion but screen accuracy (correct me if I'm wrong on this): Shouldn't the ear screws be flat ? Yours look like bubble-head screws (I lack the correct term, sorry). Is it just the paint on them that makes them appear round or are they really not flat ?
  5. Very good, thank you so much for measuring this !
  6. Did you just file a question to the GMOs or have you sent your application for joining the 501st ? It might take some time until you get answer from them since they're always busy and approving a costume is not a matter of 5minutes and you're good. Just be patient. Oh and by the way: Dan and ObiHahn used to be the German Garrison's GMOs. The current GMOs are here: http://501st.de/kontakt.php
  7. There's no definite size for them ? I thought someone would know the size of the original suit brackets and they would only differ in the height of the brackets you need for your chestpiece. Is there an average size then ?
  8. I'm using this thread and its pics as reference for my current build (TM 1.5mm), it's great to have everything right in one thread, especially thigh / shin assembly. One question: How many cm is the gap between the two screws of a braket of the strapping system ?
  9. That's a really good explaination. To be honest, I haven't thought about a home system yet (awkward, given the fact we're in a sci-fi environment, isn't it ?). The only one who needs to know your entire backstory in my opinion is yourself. The benefit for you is you can jump back and forth between details depending on the current conversation or situation. The benefit for the visitor is a more authentic feeling when interacting with the 501st. I guess that's the extra effort that fills the gap between wearing a TK armor and cosplay. Now I need to think of a home system to fit my backstory....meh
  10. Evochron looks really good but right now I'm having a hard time getting into the game. So many commands and details, it's crazy. Legends of Pegasus got released this weekend, don't buy it. People go crazy on the forums, it's not just buggy it's "not done yet" as if they released a pre-alpha phase game. Refund claims on Steam Network, angry customers and the devs trying to patch stuff as good as possible.
  11. LadyInWhite sums it up pretty good. Get yourself a backstory and be prepared for the most common questions, especially from kids. "Where's Vader", "Is this blaster real ?" etc. There is a video of a lecture of Jay Laga'aia, I think from FedCon or something, where he also points out how to move as a stormtrooper. You wanna walk as if on alert or on patrol. The good news is, you're wearing a helmet, noone's gonna see your face. So if you try out some interaction with the crowd and it turns out to be awkward, so be it. Noone knows it was you. The only thing I refuse to do is kinda "force" people into a certain situation such as being held hostage (the infamous on-your-knees-arms-behind-your-head-trooper-behind-you) or getting handcuffed. I have no moral problem with this stuff, I do it if the person asks for it and I personally think it's a pretty cool picture for the visitors, just forcing them to do it because you wanna do it is a bad idea, in my opinion.
  12. Steam says "local coop mode" as well as "coop mode". Hopefully it doesn't need to be connected to Steam all the time to play This actually looks like the fast-paced X-like game I'm looking for. Textures look a bit cheap sometimes but what I read about it in terms of game features sounds great. Big galaxy/universe without any portals to connect each sector and the trailer shows you can even fly to the surface of a planet from the orbit ? I can't believe this game is a so called "indie-title". Thanks for this hint, I think I'll check it out this evening. TV program sucks anyways these days.
  13. What game are we talking about ? Had a chat with one of the gang, there's a game coming up called "Legends Of Pegasus". I found a preview article from a german gaming magazine, it has customizable ships (appearance and equipment), rolebased interstellar travel and planetary landing like the Twilight Imperium boardgame and overall it's a RTS space game like Sins of a Solar Empire. One cool feature that really popped out (in my opinion) is you can adjust the altitude of your ships to a certain degree giving you slight tactical advancements. Just like in the Wrath of Khan, when Kirk outsmarts Khan cause Khan doesn't think of spacebattle as in a 3 dimensional ......oh wait, um, the force and ...lightsabers and stuff....I'm no trekkie
  14. Hi there, once in a while, some friends and I meet to do what was known as LAN or Network party in ancient times, back in the days when the wolves owned the woods and the night was full of horrors, back in the days when you couldn't download a full Bluray movie in the glimpse of an eye......anyways, we usually play Civilizations4, Sins of a Solar Empire or Crusader Kings 2 (I totally hate that game). We all enjoy Space Simulation games like X3 but non of these have multiplayer. Does anyone know a game which might meet most of the following aspects: Space exploration Economy Own Ships / Fleet customizable Dogfights / Fleet Battles vs NPC and each other I'm talking about good ol' LAN / Dedicated Server mode games, no MMOs I know there's Freelancer but we tried that once and the graphics are horrible. Any recommendations ?
  15. Nah, I won't do the MkII don't worry, I was just asking so I could pick the appropriate scenes from the BluRay for reference right away without first checking if it's MkII or ANH-Reused. For the ANH style elastic to hold the strap down in the back: I totally agree. They would have been this way if the suits were in better shape after ANH. But the CRLs for Centurion say otherwise.
  16. I'm gonna start my second ESB build in the next few days, this time aiming for Centurion. The shoulder bridge assembly is one of the things I haven't read much about until this thread. Still not sure where to put the velcro and if it should be velcro at all. A fellow garrison member gave me the advise to just pick one of the troopers on screen and try to resemble his armor with all the weathering, helmet faceplate positions etc. So which of the scenes were filmed using the old ANH suits, which ones have the MkII suits ?
  17. Solid cover or some foam-like material ?
  18. Hey there, I've tried several solutions for voice in my bucket. There's pretty much two possibilites: Amp under my chestplate or amp in my bucket. Since I own an AKER there's no way I can get this in my bucket together with my head, it's simply to big (the amp). I also can't put it under my (current) chestplate cause it would lift it up at one side. So I opened up the AKER. Turns out most of the big housing is for the speaker, the circuit board is kinda "build" around the speaker with the batteries in the lower part of the housing. Board, speaker and batteries are connected via plugs, easy to disasemble. I was thinking of something like a custom housing for the board only, with the speaker and batteries separated so you can use the space you have in your helmet plus you can change to a smaller speaker or mic tip speakers you have in your helmet. My custom housing was a total fail though, so I figured I might as well put the board in a small plastic bag or just leave it blank. Do you thing the board might die because of moisture in the helmet ? Anyone ever done an AKER mod ? Any housing from other products that might fit the AKER board ?
  19. I like the "screen used look" when it comes to weathering the TK as seen in the Tantive raid for example and the overall accurate details (rivets/snaps). I even review new scuffs after trooping and decide wether I keep them or try to rub them off. It just gives the TK a more used look and a touch of really used gear rather than an all new shiny suit. I wouldn't go for paint chips and HDPE mockup paint because I suck at paint jobs and I'd never do this white-tape-to-keep-biceps-in-place thing because it looks really cheap in my opinion. However, that's what I like to do with my armor. I appreciate the EIB and Centurion programs and the work of those who take it even beyond this level of accuracy. After all, we all do it for ourselves so we feel comfy and like a stormtrooper in our very own armor. A 5 year old kid will recognize us as a stormtrooper no matter if you have paint chips like first trooper to the left in ANH scene XY or if you don't have any rivets and cover strips used on your armor. Or they'll call you a clone, cause that's what we are now, thanks to "The Clone Wars"
  20. I don't have exactely this suit but I used to have a single-piece body suit made of spandex or at least some artifical fiber stuff (don't know the proper english term for that fabric, you get the idea) After the first troop I got these dark purple marks at the return edges and after each troop there was more of that color that kinda wore off of the suit into the HIPS material. Not even magic erasers helped here, only sanding. I'm back to a cotton undersuit now. I'm not saying this is going to happen with your spandex suit but watch out for these marks and discard that suit ASAP if you notice them.
  21. I'm already approved ? You guys are awesome, thank you so much ! Also thank you for your feedback. It's always nitpicking, but without this attitude we wouldn't have EIB / Centurion, right ?
  22. Here's my EIB request. Thanks in advance for checking my armor Stats Armor = MovieFX (Germany) Helmet = MovieFX (Germany) Blaster = resin, aluminum pipe - by TI6815 of the German Garrison Height = 173cm Weight = approx. 80kg (I don't own a scale) Boots = TKBoots Canvas belt = Trooperbay Neck Seal = Trooperbay Holster = Trooperbay Armor Helmet Details Armor Details Blaster Details Action Shot !
  23. I know your goal is becoming a 501st Member (which is awesome by the way ) and you already have a kit so why spend this huge amount of money on another contemporary kit. But if I read that correctly, you are the proud owner of one of 3 Marco Kits worldwide, together with that restoring guy and Sansweet (probably). That makes the entire suit, despite the odd look compared to newer kits, something special, I'd even say: treat it as if it was an original movie prop. Make it look good and shiny/dirty but don't wear it or troop it. As others have said, after all these years, the material might be too fragile. Conserve it and make it become a piece of fan-made TK armor history
  24. Hey dude, your armor looks really amazing. One question about your straps here: Where on these straps does the glue stop, or which part of it remains stretchable ? Only the part where you sew the "sling" together ? I figure the strap has to be pretty strong in order to hold the halfs together without having a black gap when walking
