2) Holy bejeezus you're skinny.
Only way to possibly fit in the costume, lol. Even as it is I have to expand the upper arms because my arm gets just a little too big up there around the shoulder.
-
The head piece came from a separate supplier than the armor, here's a pic!
I'll be using the helmet on the left, I thought I had a test fit picture somewhere. I'll try to share it later.
The helmet is rotocast and the body parts are fiberglass. The shorts (also no pictured) are ABS for flexibility purposes.

Another exciting big brown box day....
I wont get the chance to really begin work on this until the summer, but figured I would share!
Don't mind the snow pants, I had just finished shoveling the driveway.

1. When you're dressed up for a movie midnight release, I assume everyone want pics with you, but you still sit there in your armor the whole length of the movie? Doesn't the edges on the butt plate 'dig in' after awhile, or do you take it off?
The one time I've done an event like this I had someone hold my seat about 15 minutes before the movie started and I went and dressed down to regular clothes for the movie.
2. When at a mall or store event, where do you suit up, bathroom etc.? (since at a con its usually in back of the display, unseen)
The mall that we have done several events at has let us use their employee hallways that run behind all the stores so that our totes are safe. Very nice of them!
3. What is THE most common question you get asked?
"Aren't you a little short..."
4. Most embarrassing moment:
The worst I have had was at a "mascots" event they wanted the mascots and costumed people to race. It was my very first event and I barely knew how to walk in the armor, but I thought the race was a fun idea. Needless to say, I came in last and looked like a robot trying to run.

You've a great job so far! Especially impressed with how little gap there is by your ears!

Honestly, that was all I could think when I saw it was the amount of money they spent on those costumes. A little research revealed that it was halloweencostumes.com employees, so I guess they didnt actually spend the money.

I'll just leave this here

Great work for what you had available to you at the time!

Tom,
Welcome to the boards! As a fellow young trooper, I can definitely say it is an expensive hobby, but totally worth it and can be done even on a limited budget. I think you'll find a lot of people go the ABS route. I've never personally experienced HIPS, but from what I have heard the durability isn't a huge difference. ABS has held up great for me. For a trooper on a budget, I'd recommend ATA, though with ATA you would have to go for ANH or ESB rather than ROTJ. ATA stands for "affordable trooper armor," so it is nice for those of us who don't have quite as much green sitting around. You can also always look at it as a starting suit of armor and purchase one of the other more expensive armors a few years down the road. I like my ATA kit a lot, and for someone with no costume building experience it wasn't too difficult to assemble. Your local garrison will definitely be a helpful resource for help with your costume and getting involved.
Best of luck!

One of the TKs in my garrison made a "My Little Pony" trooper and couldn't ever get the pink out (I guess should probably mention novus to him) so he somehow acquired a new kit. I'd also say to protect your armor maybe switch to one of the big Stanely totes on wheels rather than a hockey bag. I originally wanted to go with a hockey bag but figured the armor would be safer in a big tote (and no pink dye rubber off the bag!)

Welcome and best of luck to you on your journey to becoming a stormtrooper! You'll be alright working with ABS. I had no prior costuming experience (other than renaissance) and managed to put a TK together so I'm sure you'll do great. The hardest part is the first cut. Ask lots of questions and post lots of pictures!
-
Also, try to hook up with a TK from your local garrison or your GML, they should be able to help you out some when it comes to getting things to fit better. In absence of that, asking questions and posting pictures here will get you tons of great advice as well.

Congrats Eric!

Oldie but a goodie!

Until recently I always put my gloves on before forearms. Just discovered when I got my rubber handguard gloves that it is actually much easier to do gloves last. Tucking them into the forearms isn't as difficult as I thought it would be. Beautiful armor, best of luck with your build.

Welcome and congrats on your approval!

That is great!

Stanely tote for sure.

Another great EIB suit! I like my ATA and will troop it for a long time, but I love how the TM and RS suits look, especially the buckets.
-
300! so, will the next mark to hit be "501"? That seems appropriate!

I'm usually in suit in about 10 minutes with minimal assistance from nearby troopers

4674. When I applied to the legion I decided to let fate decide. My girlfriend and I drew numbers from a hat (0-9) 4 times, as we drew each number we made sure there was even availability in the direction we were going. We came up with 5 options this way, however, the 2nd and 5th options were exactly the same and we figured that was as close to fate choosing my number as we could get.

I was just going to mention using a bondo or filler putty if you wanted, but I don't think it would hinder your submission, so it is up to you!
