As a chemical engineer I can conclude that the flexibility is not a measurement of something being plastic or not. Very common misinterpretation is that plastics is something rigid and un-environmental. Nowadays plastics are everywhere and the same building block can be used to manufacture anything from biodegrading plastics to bulletproof materials to ceramics. For example PVC can be made anything from piping to clothes depending on the plasticizers and additives used.

Acetone is not going to form any excess gas with ABS in room temperature. Acetone is very rapid in evaporating, though, so either make small amounts for immediate use or store the container tightly to minimise the evaporation!

What kind of paint/texture paint and which color and gloss people usually use to bring out that metal texture or metal look in E-11s?

What material you used for the clips? Aluminium about 1" wide, I understood, but was there any surface treatment? Why I am asking, is that the standard material sold here is the eloxated (anodized) and thus quite matte in appearance and I don't know if this is up to the EIB standards...
