  1. Good to know, about the Goo Gone! Think I'll pick up a Magic Eraser.
  2. Well, my armor party is coming up soon, and I am trying to get as much done as I can own my own. Having said that, I am debating painting the helmet interior BEFORE putting it together. A friend of mine who is coming to the party suggested I wait and brush-paint the inside after the helmet is together. He said it was to keep any affixed pieces, like the battery boxes, mini-amp, fans, etc. from sticking to the paint and not the helmet. Wouldn't it make just as much sense to mask off any areas that I am gong to "stick" anything to and then paint, leaving the exposed, white areas to epoxy the sound and fans systems to. Just seems it would be easier to paint the three separate pieces than to try to muddle my way inside and around everything already installed. Anybody agree or disagree? Love to hear how others have done it.
  3. That looks great!!! An MG-34 is my next project!
  4. BOMMAR is what I'm basing my setup on. Couldn't afford to buy a BOMMAR setup, but I did buy the TrikToys mini-amp set and a couple of small fans, a project box and two soft-touch switches from Radio Shack. I also got some black, ribbed wire tubing from Lowe's that was split to tuck all the excess wiring into. I'll try to post some pics of the parts I have and as soon as I get the whole thing together, I'll post some of those.
  5. Woah! That is some AWESOME armor Tom!!!
  6. Thanks to you guys, I have learned, and continue to learn, SO much! Titanium payment sent!!!
  7. I saw the Fusion paint in the store and wondered how well it would work. Thanks for the info guys!
  8. When will "then" be "now"? SOON! Welcome David!!!!
  9. Anyone have any opinions as to what paint works best for painting the inside of the helmet? I have a can of Krylon H20-resistant flat black that I was thinking of using. Any reason that wouldn't be a good enough choice?
  10. That's awesome! I might try something like that myself!
  11. Found these at Wal-Mart today for $9.96. What do you think? Sorry about the colors. Didn't have time to edit. The gloves are pitch black with suede palms and ribbed backs. Just have to cover up the MechPro logo on the tabs. -------------
  12. This is SO freakin' SWEET! Oh man, I wish I had the budget for this!!! If you ever do sell the parts, PLEASE let me know!!! This is the nicest setup I've seen yet! Congrats!!!
  13. You definitely have my prayers! I cannot imagine having all that happen at once, but things can, and will, get better. I have been laid off twice since college, so I can sympathize with you there. It feels bad at the time, but bigger and better things are ahead for you! I just know it! If you EVER need a friend, even though many mile separate us, just know I, and the rest of the troops are there for you!
  14. Awesome! Thanks for the advice guys!
  15. Has anyone had any good solutions for 9-volt battery housings inside the bucket? I noticed the batteries that were powering the fans getting pretty warm after just a couple of minutes. I saw one person had used velcro, but if the batteries are getting this warm this quickly, I don't think the adhesive on the velcro would last long. Any solutions/pics? Thanks!
  16. OK, I am rolling over dseveral different decisions about my SC helmet, one of which is what is the best way to do voice amplification TK-4950 told me he uses mini speakers in the tusks an a belt-supported amp box. I am wondering if the voice box with mics just as good or comparitable to a voice box alone. "6 of one/half-dozen of the other"? Just bought two micro fans, 9-volt connectors and soft=push switches for the air circulation. Also, I have heard that painting the bucket black inside can make all parts blend in a little better, plus it mattes the inside in case you're photographed that the flash won't bounce of ther bck of thr helmet and allow your eyes to show through the lens. Thoughts?...Opinions? Flung, Rotten vegetables?
  17. WOW! This generated some cool discussion! Paul, I like your breakdown. Guess the blue was just to complete the "color wheel".
  18. Thanks Paul! I was wondering how "strict" the hard-core troopers were in accuracy, if at all.
  19. Hi all! Maybe someone here can answer this questions for me, or show me where to go to find out. I was just getting ready to order a pauldron and I was trying to decide on a color. I know that the higher ranking officers tend to wear orange or red and the sargeants wear a white, I think, and the "grunts" wear black. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong) I noticed there was an option for a blue pauldron also. Anyway, my question is this: what designation or rank is a blue pauldron, or does it even show up in the movies? Thanks everyone!!!
  20. Thanks guys! Actually, those are the only two I've really investigated. Daetrin, you mentioned RT and TE2. Are there some comparative resources you can recommend? This is the AP suit I was looking at :-----------
  21. Hi all! Quick couple of questions. I am looking at an AP suit, simply due to my "shortness" (5' 5"), but the price is a bit much (about $800). I could go that high, but I would really like to come in cheaper, if possible. Just wondering if an FX is just as good an option, based on price differences alone? Also, is an FX suit too tall for someone my height?
