Knighthawk
I notice on many pics of different troopers armor, that there is side plates or white material that covers the sides above the belt or connects the front and rear panels. Are the side abdominal plates/material required?
TK-9820
The side pieces that fill the gap between the ab and back plates are only required for EIB status. They can be made from the spare ABS strips that come with most FX armor kits or you can improvise using other sturdy, matching materials. If you go with rigid plastic, add a slight curve to them to make the parts fit nicer.
firebladejedi[TK]
Hi Derek, Eugene hit the nail on the head here. The side gap being closed is not required for 501st application, this is something specific for EIB status. You will find that one of the only kits that need this issue addressing is the fx kit, as most of the other kits seem to allow the front and back to touch. Obviously it all depends on your body type and size. Currently you can choose to use either soft or hard materials to close the gap if you choose to do so

Laspector[TK]
Does using actual hard ABS pieces limit you in any way as far as bending over?
Daetrin[Admin]
Not sure how it would be different from having non-FX suit.
TK4205
I used 1/8" foamy to close my side gaps. I now use stiff vinyl. Both work. Styrene is somewhat stiff...
