MoreWag Posted March 24, 2025 Report Posted March 24, 2025 Hello, Starting to research doing my first TK build. I'm 6'1" (186cm) and 180 pounds (82kg) and want to take armor kit sizing into account when making that selection. On the main "The various types of armor..." thread I saw AM, RT, and TM all size well for someone bigger than the original armor/actors from the 70s. If I go this route, I'm leaning towards ANH Stunt kit from Dave's Darkside Depot. However, I really like the look and symmetry of the ROTK. Are either of the kits from Jimmiroquai or 850 Armor Works sized well for someone over 6 foot? I know I'll be doing some trimming and/or use of shims, but it would certainly help sway my decision on which kit to purchase if I knew one was designed for someone my height/size. Thanks! Quote
revlimiter[Staff] Posted March 24, 2025 Report Posted March 24, 2025 The Jimmi thighs are TALL. Like really really tall. I suspect a 6'4" trooper would still consider cutting a little off the top. The torso is also quite generous. It allows for big and tall very easily. Jimmi delivers very quickly also. I'm 5'11" and 165 and needed to trim a lot of thigh height from my Jimmi kit. I've yet to trim the torso but it's coming up. It covers half my chest in standard configuration and needs to be under those black bridge pieces. The few issues with the Jimmi kit are the center back trauma panel and the rather small shoulder bells. Small bells are the R1 style, so they're correct... but they just look a bit small on every trooper I've seen wearing them. The trauma panel is easily replaced with a printed one. Many also replace the shins with more accurate printed ones. I've not yet finished my kit and am on the fence about those shins. They seem fine to me, but I may end up printing some anyway. I don't wanna speak ill of anyone, but the 850 armor could... well... be better. Details are rather soft and some garrison mates have had delivery problems. 850 also DOES still need some paint but you get the added task of trying to paint match the ABS, which can be a bear. When the super-sturdy and sharp Jimmiroquai option exists, I wouldn't even think twice about 850. I didn't. I also have no input about how the 850 fits. 1 Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted March 24, 2025 Report Posted March 24, 2025 Take a look through the ROTK build area, there are quite a few builds there with peoples sizing, give you a better idea visually. FOR OTTK you are better going with AM (DD) it's made for the larger trooper. Quote
Wompet[TK] Posted March 24, 2025 Report Posted March 24, 2025 I’m 5’11” and 180 lbs and have an 850 kit. There’s enough length in the arms and legs that your extra couple of inches shouldn’t be a problem, and you probably won’t have to trim any off the top of the ab. I replaced the shoulder bridges and will be converting a Black Series helmet. The 850 helmet is … well, just use something else. But if I had ready access to a 3D printer, I’d rather be building using Akira Yuming’s files. 1 Quote
