Salome Posted January 8, 2025 Report Posted January 8, 2025 Working on my storm trooper kit that I bought from a seller and it's going quite slow. I'm not handy with tools nor the Dremel so struggling to get smooth edges, perfect cuts, etc. My question is, how perfect does this suit have to be for me to be accepted into the 501st legion? And is there any more hands on assistance/mentoring services in Southern California that can assist those of us that are challenged? Any YouTube videos or builders that are super easy to follow as they build a suit? Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted January 8, 2025 Report Posted January 8, 2025 Hello and welcome, you can find local garrisons/squads here https://www.501st.com/maps/ Generally the trimming should be smooth, I find wrapping some sandpaper over a small block of wood or pipe helps give a nice smooth appearance. Here are some references of return edges Another great thread full of helpful links and some build info When in doubt you can also check out our reference gallery OTTK help videos: CableGuy (RIP) has a great youtube series https://www.youtube.com/@cableguydan/videos So does RS props https://www.youtube.com/@RSPropMastersTV/videos Posting a build thread here on the forum is a great way to get feedback on your build and help (not sure which TK version you are building) there are lots of members with great build threads to follow, once we know what version you are building we could post some for you. Doggydoc[Staff] Posted January 8, 2025 Report Posted January 8, 2025 Hi Maria, Welcome to the FISD, you have come to the right place for help. The approval will be completely up to your local GML. Seam lines under cover strips are not seen, so should not be an issue , it is more the exposed return edges that will need to be straight. As Glen mentioned, a build thread will be a great help for you and for us to help you get to the finish line. Quote
