Sandpaper Grit?

What grit sandpaper should I use to sand down helmets and whatnot to prime them for painting?

I went with 240, then 320 and finally wetsanding with 600 grit.

I wetsand with 400, prime, wetsand with 800, paint.

I went to the hardware store the other day and found types like coarse, fine etc etc.

Do the sandpapers you're talking about come in a specific grain?

Go to auto supply stores, or check in the auto section of a department store. It'll be there.

Yeah I know, but I mean 220 fine or 220 coarse etc?

400, 600 and 800 wet / dry paper is all very fine. It's usually dark gray in color.

if it helps...

i usually flat between coats with 600 wet and dry then after painting, flat the final coat of paint with 1200 grit wet and dry paper,

(then polish the helmet..oooerr missus...with color restorer...aka...t-cut..)
