iheartbiscuits Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 Reviewed the boards and have not seen this particular project... Has anyone attempted to make their own flexible hand plates by making a mold out of the ABS plates included in a kit? My thought is to make an Alginate negative mold from the kit plates, and then use the negatives to cast a set of silicone or latex plates. Quote
ukswrath[Staff] Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 That essentially would be called recasting which is frowned upon, unless given consent from the originator. Quote
mikidymac[TK] Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 I would consider it saving some money as long as you don't intend to sell them. 1 Quote
justjoseph63[Staff] Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 There are a few Troopers who have made their own, but considering the time, cost of materials, and the fact that most ABS hand guards are curved (making it difficult if not impossible to get a proper mold), it is usually less expensive to purchase them. Yes, I sell hand guards, but I also took the time to sculpt them from scratch, make the molds, get them approved and cast them in a 3 step process. Like Tony mentioned, recasting is highly frowned upon, unless you get the permission of the original creator. 1 Quote
