sandtrooper[501st] Posted June 7, 2016 Report Posted June 7, 2016 Hello all, I'm looking for advice on a tool bench or table to work on while building armor. It needs to be non-permanent since I live in a rental house, but sturdy enough that it doesn't wobble around when being used. Would like to keep it affordable as well. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,Pat Quote

kman[TK] Posted June 7, 2016 Report Posted June 7, 2016 (edited) ^^ That's a good workbench. I have one. (I will note that the drawers are kind of annoying... they stick and are far from smooth. Considering how little I paid, I'm not really complaining much. But don't expect 100% perfection.) I mostly use my dining room table, though. As long as it's not glass, should be fine for almost everything you'll need to do for armor building, just protect the surface. (And if it IS glass, you can still do pretty much everything except hammer snaps) I use one of these large cutting mats as a work surface, which has been fantastic and extremely helpful. The green side in particular provide high contrast to the build, so it's easy to see what you're doing. The lines are an unexpectedly handy bonus, as a line reference (and rough measurement reference!) for cuts. http://www.amazon.com/Alvin-Professional-Cutting-Green-Black/dp/B0015ASN5S Edited June 7, 2016 by kman 1 Quote
justjoseph63[Staff] Posted June 7, 2016 Report Posted June 7, 2016 Another great thing about the table that Tony (ukswrath) provided the link for is that Harbor Freight has tons of coupons. 1 Quote
ukswrath[Staff] Posted June 7, 2016 Report Posted June 7, 2016 Almost bought it my self this weekend but didn't really need it, impulse buy didn't prevail lol Quote
sandtrooper[501st] Posted June 8, 2016 Author Report Posted June 8, 2016 Okay, thanks for the advice gentlemen! I'm wanting something that can stand up to hammering. Tony will attest that me and setting snaps don't get along so well. Where can I find Harbor Freight coupons? Amazon looks to have the same bench with free shipping, but it costs a little more. Harbor Freight looks like they would charge a freight premium to send it. http://www.amazon.com/Windsor-Design-Workbench-Drawers-Hardwood/dp/B008MXLDHQ?ie=UTF8&keywords=workbench&qid=1465347041&ref_=sr_1_4&s=hi&sr=1-4 1 Quote
kman[TK] Posted June 8, 2016 Report Posted June 8, 2016 Get on Harbor Freight's mailing list and you'll get tons of coupons. (including 20% off anything coupons) Shipping might change the equation a bit, of course. I have several HFs nearby, so no need for shipping for me. Quote
