Vard Terry[TK] Posted May 17, 2016 Report Posted May 17, 2016 Hello All, I am a complete Newbie preparing to start my first build. I just picked up my box from Scootch (CAP-W) on Friday and spent a good deal of the weekend staring at it overwhelmed. I'm over that now (at least that's what I'm telling myself anyway) and ready to start working on it. It will still be a few days before I begin as I am currently spending my evenings cleaning and preparing my work area. I also have to wait for a few more tools and supplies to arrive before I begin but I believe I have almost everything ordered and/or purchased at this point. I figured this would be a good time to ask up front for any advice before I begin. A good place to begin? Common rookie mistakes to avoid? etc., etc. Any information and advice is greatly appreciated. This will be a slow build as I do not have a lot of time during the week to work on this but I will do my best to upload progress pictures as I go. Hopefully I might be able to get some local help to speed up the process but I'm not going to count on it. All that being said it was hard to contain my excitement at this point: And this was after I spent several hours washing the pieces to remove any oils, dirt, etc. as well as a lot of drool from my kids and I I'm sure this was probably pointless at this stage but I wanted to do it anyway and it was nice seeing everything laid out and clean. 2 Quote
dejango[TK] Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 Looks like a nice kit. I personally liked starting from the legs up, simply because they are the biggest (and in my opinion) more difficult glueing parts and i like tackling those first. Measure twice, cut once 1 Quote
illusionz_09[TK] Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 I'm sure you have seen through many threads the classic tip. Do your homework. Measure measure measure. Take your time and don't rush.
I'm sure you will do great.
We will all keep an eye and answer any questions you have.
Good luck! 1 Quote

justjoseph63[Staff] Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 Welcome, Vard! Some great advice, especially from David. Research, measuring and taking your time are VERY important! It also helps to be prepared, and have all the tools and supplies you will need ahead of time. I have a thread here that can help with that: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/31404-supply-list-for-your-tk-build/. I realize that (as all of us did) that you want to get trooping as soon as you can, but consider your build as a marathon, not a sprint. Rushing will only cause you grief, trust me. After researching some of the MANY build threads here, I suggest starting your own. This makes it easier to ask questions, keep everyone up to date, and show off your progress. And don't forget lots of photos. We LOVE photos! Also, don't forget to take a close look at the "Advanced Tactics" section, where you can study the EIB and Centurion submission photos. These will show you how far you can take your armor toward "screen accuracy". It's much easier to aim for these levels during your build than after. Most of all, have FUN! Another thing you can do is get in touch with your local Garrison or Squad. They can provide lots of information, and many have "armor parties", which are designed to help new recruits assemble their kits. 3 Quote
Vard Terry[TK] Posted May 20, 2016 Author Report Posted May 20, 2016 Thanks for the advice. Starting with the legs sounds like a good idea so I'll begin there. I think I have everything from the list except for a few items ordered that haven't arrived yet (like my magnets) but I think I can at least get started with what I have. And I do want to aim for Centurion from the start so hopefully everything will go well. and thanks for the advice on taking it slow. I definitely want to get it built and start trooping but I don't want to mess something up either. I will be sure to post as many pictures as possible and any questions I might have. Thanks again everyone I really appreciate it. Quote
Vard Terry[TK] Posted June 2, 2016 Author Report Posted June 2, 2016 So I've made rough cuts and spent quite a bit of time cleaning those up with the dremel (was able to get some great advice from my local squad this weekend) but nothing to really take pictures of so far. However I did spend last night cutting my front cover strips so that I can glue the fronts together to begin fitting. I'll include some pictures below of where I believe is the correct placement of the strips to get opinions before I measure and cut. Thanks 1 Quote
