Haribon72’s First Order Stormtrooper (Jakku Chase Scene) – Large Trooper Build

Recommended Posts

I plan to do a Jakku trooper myself (CALL IN THE AIR STRIKE!), so I'll be watching this one with great interest. Seems that the last piece that is not yet available is the Snowtrooper backpack.

I also appreciate seeing your technique in prepping and installing the center chest detail. Those weren't available when I built my kit (Alpha 75), but I was able to acquire one and installing it is on my list of upgrades.

Will you be using the standard size F-11D w rifle stock, or are you getting one of the upsized versions that T5H recently made available for printing?

Hello Brian, I have no idea what rifle set up I want yet. My budget is the biggest obstacle. Hahhahaha! I'll be sure to share when I get to that point.

Alleluia!   Let me touch the sky with my smiley face chest piece.     I had to do the infamous "blue sky test" to make sure we get a good cut out.   This should be written into the CRL    :laugh1:

Spent some time on it before the sun went down.  I'm calling this good unless we have the measurements from the movie.   Speak now and forever hold your (piece)!   :laugh1:

Brackets and Installation of the Updated Chest Piece

Take a look at the picture below.   This was done by a friend not long ago.

crack_zpsqoaetez1.jpg

I'm going to reinforce the chest piece so that I won't crack under pressure.

Using:

1. Brackets made by ABS scraps pieces (heat gun & bend into 90 degrees).

2. Weld-On 771 ABS cement

3. Magnets and washers

4. Two Bar clamp spreaders

Let it hang out overnight.   Peel everything off and sand the next day.

Looks like I might be heat bending this section.   It  does not sit well at Box # 1 and Box # 7 area.

I have a quarter inch gap here.  No worries.    I'll do the heat bending work during the shim work.

Shim Work on the Abs section

These are my blueprints, ideas, rough draft section on the shim work for the Abs section.    My waistline is 40 inches and I have a nine inch gap in the back area.

SAM_1830_zpsiexorb1h.jpg

I will need to shim both sides of the mid-section to help close the back area.  Hopefully I can achieve four to five inches of gap space to get into the armor (without struggling).

TD is currently at six and half inches.

You don't have to bend it Walter, the ab box covers it however, as you mentioned the box doesn't fit well there. Note: The box will fit better once you fill in the side seam. Suggestion, the location in question comes together at a point, bond it there. After the glue dries, if you still feel the need then use whatever you want to fill the gap. Once you fill in the seams those boxes will be trimmed to fit the ab. Hope this makes sense.

Thank you Keith!  Definitely a labor of love for this project.

Let's get this week's work going . . .

ABS strips for the job.

Creating two inch shims and about 1.5" backers to hold the shims in place.

Custom made one backer strip for Box # 1.

I stacked plastic pieces and glued them together.

I belt sanded the piece so it can seat well into Box # 1 bump section.

On the other side, I wanted to experiment.    I decided to heat bend the shim for Box # 7.

SAM_1912_zpsrzsaman1.jpg

Not the greatest looking, but it was worth the experiment.   I custom cut a painters mix stick, heated up the plastic, and then "slam press" the piece into shape.

Inside backer = I used Weld On ABS cement.   This will ensure the backers and the shims don't break apart.

Experimenting more on other strips / shims.
