Hello chaps,

Eagerly awaiting my first bit of the empire - an RS helmet kit.

I'm opting for the ESB look, but am curious about specific paints that match the prop

I've searched the forum and got a ton of information for doing this project. As well as some spectacular reference pictures (I feel like I have that patch helmet in front of me in real life! Thanks DarthKaro, whoever you are)

But what paint is best for:

The HDPE khaki shade?

The actual white of the helmet?

The grey parts? (just the ears on ESB I believe?)  -  Testors 1138?

The frown and vocoder? - #85 Humbrol satin black?

Any other colour based details you can share would be appreciated!

I don't just want to go at it with any old paint, if you know what I mean!

Cheers guys

Why do you need to paint it khaki shade? are you trying to replicate an original worn helmet with base peeking through the white paint?

Hey, thanks for answering.

I want a few scuffs on the helmet, nothing major. If the paint is to be scraped I'd rather an "authentic" colour peeks through! I am not going to be wearing this helmet, it is for display only. I want it to be like one of the props at time of screen use. By the time I've completed it, I may just leave it unscathed. Need to decide later  :laugh1:

The thread you linked seems to be more geared toward membership criteria, I was wondering if anybody had discussed the colours from the pics we have from various auctions etc.

My biggest concern is getting the wrong type of white paint! Not too warm, not too cold.

Most people seem to use appliance white enamel spray. As to what the props were painted in, no idea.
