Grimez
----------- I could just dye these white and use them, they look pretty good. If they qualify, would they work for Centurion as well? Edited January 24, 2022 by gmrhodes13 link not working removed
Palpatine1977
They would definitely work yes, the elastic isn't accurate but as long as there are no other visible seams, they're good for centurion.
mikedwelle94[TK]
Those look pretty much identical to the Bass Amsterdams I picked up. I am not aware of Centurion requirements, but I do know for sure you will gain 501st membership with either of those boots you linked. But if I was in your position, I'd hit up TKBoots for a pair of white ones.
Dark PWF[Staff]
Granted, I'm not an expert but as it has already been pointed out, the elastic is not spot-on but they appear to be a good match. I'd consider TK Boots, as Mike suggested, and overall, I agree with Brandon... Ā If nothing else is available though, those look pretty good. Here is the CRL listing on boots: Ā For 501st approval: Ć¢ā¬Ā¢Boots are above ankle height and made of white leather or leather-like material. Ć¢ā¬Ā¢Small U-shaped elastic sections on both sides of the ankle. Ć¢ā¬Ā¢Flat sole with a short heel. Ć¢ā¬Ā¢No buckles or laces. Ć¢ā¬Ā¢Jodhpur/ Chelsea-type boots or an equivalent style is acceptable. Ć¢āĀ¦Elvis or Mariachi boots are not allowed. Ā For level two certification (if applicable): Ā For level three certification (if applicable): Ć¢ā¬Ā¢There shall be no seam on the front of the boot. Grimez
Awesome, what shoe dyes and deglazers are commonly used?
mikedwelle94[TK]
use acetone to take the shine down. I then used acrylic paint on my boots. Mine came out looking fine. (ignore the battle-damaged shin armorĀ ) ----------- Hopefully someone else chimes in on the right way to do it. Dark PWF[Staff]
Here you go. Ā A Tutorial of sorts, by one of the biggest "dye your boots" proponents within the FISD: SorenM. Grimez
Alright, so definitely going with the white Angelus acrylic paint. Would Acetone or Paint Thinner be the way to go for prepping it?
mikedwelle94[TK]
Angelus is a good choice. That's what I used. Acetone worked well enough for me, but if paint thinner is easier to find, it should do the job just as well.Ā
Grimez
Either or, I can use some of the nail polish remover around the house if need be. Paint thinner I could get at the local Lowes without having to pay shipping.Ā

Ā I'm actually dying some boots right now, have a thread up, if you wanted to watch my progress and learn from my mistakes hahaĀ http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/27114-dyeing-black-boots-white/
Palpatine1977
Oh and BTW I actually recently contacted TKBoots and unless you were willing to wait months to then be put on a waiting list.. you're unfortunately (because TKBoots are fantastic) going to have to outsource. Palpatine1977
Indeed, he told me 10 weeks until more were in stock. Ā Yup, and you better believe there's tons of people waiting xD so it's either paint your own, now.. or wait for those... Personally, I am extremely impatient, so I got my own haha
Grimez
So am I, these will hopefully look just as good once I'm done. I will be watching your thread of course.

If they qualify, would they work for Centurion as well? Here is my opinion: They will get you through initial aceptance, maybe to EIB, but I am pretty confident that you will not get CEN certification with these, because overall they are not that accurate, and CEN is all about being accurate . Ā I have said it on many an occasion: I suggest that one pays the extra buck/dollar/pound to get a pair of proper boots, that will last you a lifetime, are good to walk in (you spend quite a lot of hours on your feet while trooping), and are very accuarte at the same time (I have made a thread about it). Ā A lot of people are hung up on TKBoots, and I am not trying to talk bad about them, but they are really not that accurate IMO. White leather and white elasticband instead of dyed white, plastic soles instead of leather...I would choose Loakes 290 or similar any day. Ā You can use either acetone or painthinner, but like I told you in the PM, I advise not to scub, sand or anything like that, as it will kill the leather. Dark PWF[Staff]
Thanks for weighing in Soren.Ā I definitely think that these are a very good option, but the elastic is not accurate so I was unsure about how that would be interpreted for Centurion. Grimez
I looked at some Loakes but just about every pair I saw would be over 200 dollars USD.
mikedwelle94[TK]
That's why I didn't buy those. For me, it makes little sense to drop $200+ on something I'll have very limited opportunities to troop in. If you're situation isn't like mine and you plan to do a lot of trooping, then maybe the Loakes are a good investment for the reasons Soren stated. Ā My Bass boots are good for Specialist anyway, so it's a no-brainer. But you -- a future FISD trooper, might want to wait out the 10 weeks for the TKboots or open your wallet for the Loakes if you want that Centurion award. Of course you could always get the boots you want now, and upgrade later.

Yes they are not cheap, but they are handcrafted, and the most accurate there are, except the originals. You can often find them on ebay.co.uk used in very good condition, at around 40-50 pounds sterling.....

In the end this route is ultimately cheaper, I got free shipping on the boots so that saves me roughly $20 compared to TKboots. The price was about 56, compared to 69 for TKBoots, and I will get them tomorrow, as opposed to 10 weeks from now. Of course if I decide to I can always get TKBoots or similar down the road but these made the most sense to me imo.
