Spectre Posted November 16, 2011 Report Posted November 16, 2011 Hey all. I'm going to start making finishing strips, is it ok if they are about 14.5 mm wide? Cos the plastic strips that came with my AM kit are about 88mm wide so I can't get six 15mm strips from that, only 5 and then a 13mm strip. So I am thinking of cutting six 14.5mm wide strips...is that OK? Could I get approved with that? Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted November 16, 2011 Report Posted November 16, 2011 Yes. Don't worry about it. Quote
gazmosis[501st] Posted November 16, 2011 Report Posted November 16, 2011 Your finishing strips on the legs are bigger than the forearms and biceps. On both the shins and thighs, the strips are 20mmin front and 25mm in back. Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted November 16, 2011 Report Posted November 16, 2011 (edited) Very true. I assumed he was only talking about the forearms and bicep. Edited November 16, 2011 by Locitus Quote
Spectre Posted November 16, 2011 Author Report Posted November 16, 2011 Yeah, that was just for the forearms and biceps. For the shins and thighs I'll have to wait and see what I do. I might end up cutting those a little wider than normal, maybe try and get four 22mm strips out of one 88mm strip. Then that will cover the front outside and inside hopefully, and then I will have to get four 25mm strips out of two big strips. That will leave a spare 13mm cut-off and a 63mm strip. They'll get used for something eventually. Quote
tkrestonva[TK] Posted November 16, 2011 Report Posted November 16, 2011 Here's a tip - if you are doing inner joining strips (which admittedly are not screen-accurate but increase your joint strength by a factor of 2), use the scrap plastic from the ovelap you trimmed off. That way, you make the best use of your resources. No one will see the inside of your armor anyway, and you may find yourself or someone you know in need of the extra strips that came with the kit. Waste not, want not. Quote
Spectre Posted November 16, 2011 Author Report Posted November 16, 2011 Yeah, I am thinking I am gonna go with inner strips. Well that way I can save heeeaps of the plastic strips that came with the kit. The first few overlaps I trimmed I did in small bits at a time, which was out of cautiousness, but as I got more confident I cut them off whole. I have about 3 or 4 (I think) strips that I can use as inner cover strips on the biceps and forearms. I'll just need to trim the return edges off of the scrap. Thanks for the tip Brian! (P.S. I like that saying. ) Quote
