Sgt Steve
This is more for others here into military history.I have been going over some of my old files and stuff for my release, and with luck, found an old CD with some pics of myself. On 14 Aug 2005, the final parade for the last Canadian WW2 Victoria Cross winner, Sgt "Smoky" Smith was held. For that day about half of the city of Vancouver's down town core was all but shut down for his memorial parade. In the pics you see me, red beret, providing parade escort/close protection for the , at the time, Minister of National Defence. I was assigned this duty because I'm(still) Military Police. Other Sgt or above military members where assigned to other Ministers. Also you see Sgt Smith being pulled in a WW2 gun truck. The VC is the same as the Congressional Medal of Honour.

zsavk[TK]
Thanks for sharing! Canada has a rich and decorated history that is often forgotten or downplayed. Its great to see this sort of thing to remind us all of the sacrifices that are and were being made.
tigger68[501st]
What an honour for you. I'm glad that he was given his rightful respect on his final parade. I know that many times we forget that Canada has served as hard and as long in military conflicts all over the world as have other nations. This is a tragedy. Thank you for posting these pictures.
