How did you fix your knee plate on your AP kit
JTKenobi replied to Bigturc's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I am very pleased to report that I seem to have glued my AP sniper-plate to my shin successfully using only E6000. The way I did it is I left my velcro in place on the middle portion and then glued down the 'wings' of the sniper-plate. They did not line up nicely at all and I had to clamp them down to have them hold their position, but they held. The real test will come after a few troops. If it can still hold after repeatedly opening up the shin to put on and take off, it will be an official success. I will chime in again at that time. -
I received 2x. PM sent. Also, did we have a main Celebration 5 thread? I unfortunately didn't make the panel (dang!) but I was not aware of some of the other stuff going on. Shame on me, but can someone please point out where the C5 communications were taking place so I know for next time! Hope I can meet more of my fellow TKs at C6!

How did you fix your knee plate on your AP kit

Thanks a lot for chiming in Mike. Well, I think I will have to get some E6000 and just give it a go and see if I can make it stick. That's still a preferred alternative to drilling holes in my armor only to not like the way the pcs line up. Too bad I don't have a heat gun and the confidence to -
How did you fix your knee plate on your AP kit
JTKenobi replied to Bigturc's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
OK, I am asking this question here too in the hopes that someone will answer..... I have the AP kit with the sniper plate that doesn't fit well/line up at all. Does anyone (who is familiar with the AP kit and it's stubborn sniper plate) think E6000 will hold that sniper plate in place if I try to glue it on the 2 edges? I have the front part velcroed on, but the 2 'wing'like' edges need to be affixed to the shin and I am hesitant to screw or rivet. Will E6000 hold? -
POLL: What glue have you tried, what actually works
JTKenobi replied to Daetrin's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
I didn't use E6000 much until the end of my build and I forget for which bits. I know I liked it, but am not that familiar with it. Anyway, I have the AP kit with the sniper plate that doesn't fit well. Hey All, It's been over 2 years since I finished my kit and I STILL haven't affixed my sniper plate on my AP properly - still (barely) on with velcro. It just doesn't seem to fit over the upper lip of the shin. Can someone please post some pics/screencaps (or a link to some) where I can see screen-used sniper plates affixed to the shins?

I am planning on going to C5 and currently looking to see if anyone has extra room to spare at either the Hilton or Doubletree resort to save on funds. I know I won't be at the hotel much at all. Couch space would be fine. PM me if you think you may have extra space. Thanks, John

Great to see a Chinese section on here now...I seesome familiar faces Ling Ku is looking good! I don't imagine we going to see Johnson's armor progress anytime soon?

Can Devcon Plastic Welded pcs be separated?
JTKenobi replied to JTKenobi's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
Just for the record, I tried the freezer method and had no success with it The only thing that happened is my velcro for the other side which is not glued fell off. I put the forearms in the freezer for almost an hour and those things wouldn't budge at all and I think I pushed them to the limit. Oh well, it was worth a try. -
Can Devcon Plastic Welded pcs be separated?
JTKenobi replied to JTKenobi's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
Oooh, thanks. This was what I was hoping for. Do you know how long I should put them in the freezer and the technique to get them apart? Did you do this yourself or did you hear about this from someone else. I would love to hear more details and then decide how to go about actually doing it! And this is for the 2-part Devcon plastic welder that was/is sold at Wal-Mart, right? -
Hi Everyone, I assembled my AP arms with the common assembly method of overlapping the strips but after finding out that gluing was not as challenging as I thought, I would have preferred using the method of joining the seams with the extra ABS strip, ANH-style. The thing is that I used Devcon Plastic Welder which basically fuses the 2 pcs of plastic. I have tried pulling them apart but am afraid to use too much force as the bond is STRONG and I am afraid I will ruin them. Has anyone had any luck separating pcs that had been assembled with Devcon plastic welder and if so, what technique(s) do you suggest? Am I out of luck or can it be done? Thanks for any suggestions! John

What white paint for AP armour - UK
JTKenobi replied to james007bond's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I am not sure what poly welded means but is that a product that basically 'fuses' or 'welds' the two pcs together? I used a product we have in the US called Devco Plastic Weld (I think that is what it's called) to connect my forearm pcs and then I wanted to get them apart after the fact to use the ANH strip method but I was afraid I would ruin my forearms. They wouldn't really budge - seemed very permanent. Any tips for me? Do you think it would be possible to get them apart without ruining them? -

Any idea at all on what happened? I was able to score another one of these this past weekend and it actually works! Now I just need to use all these nifty tips and get it rigged. For now, I am thinking it best to keep the mic that came with it. -

I was able to find one of these at Wally World over my lunch break. I thought nothing of it when I did the 'try me' option and it didn't work at the store. Unfortunately, when I got to the office and swapped out the batteries, it still didn't work. An occasional 'burst' of sound so there is some kind of connection, but it's obviously not working properly. Anyone else have this problem?? I am just hoping I can find another one. -

Paul & Alex- I really appreciate the detailed info and pics. This looks like a good, cheap alternative to a lot of things out there. I hope more people can chime in with potential mic alternatives. From what you guys seem to be saying, one can get by with the provided mic, but there is likely a better one out there. I personally don't want something that I need to have right up against my lips! -

Thanks for the pics. Looks like that could fit! A few questions: 1) So did you just solder Stomper's speaker wires on? Looks like I'd need to ditch the 1/8" jack I soldered Stomper's speakers to. 2) Did you use the mic that came with it and is there any modding needed for that? Will I not have use for a mic with a 1/8" jack? 3) I don't see the batteries in your helmet. Where are they? 4) What the heck is that yellow thing? Thanks, JT -

So how big is this thing after you gut it for final installation in the helmet? I am wondering how it compares to the TCI and if it would fit in an AP helmet comfortably. Photos of a modded version of this in a helmet would be very helpful. -
Posh bucket my friend. Which helmet is that? I tried that mic out but found it didn't work well for me. Not sure if it was the specific one I had or what but I returned it for the one ScoutTrooper referenced. I am wondering if that mic w/harness and the TCI will both fit in my bucket though. I don't want to cut open my helmet any more to fit my noggin inside.
-
Mike, I got this same mic now but my AP bucket is so small that with the TCI in the bucket, I don't know how I can fit this in as well. I like the idea of the entire harness in the bucket. Do you happen to have pictures of this that you could post? Thanks for all the input guys! John

How long should the FX armor last?

Thanks for the reply Kevin. I am hoping I have the same luck, and for more than 4 years. There's also a good conversation here: --------- -

OK, I have an AP kit and perhaps there is a better place to post this but I thought before I post a new topic, perhaps someone can help me here. So..... Will my AP armor yellow over time? If so, would it still yellow eventually if I store it away from sunlight? -
I like that. Nice and simple. How do you have that mounted in your bucket? Got any pictures? Also, any feedback issues with that mic? Saw that item at Radioshack but have not made my purchase yet. Thanks! John

Thanks for the reply. I looked for this mic today but they didn't have this one so I will have to go to another store location. Can I ask what is involved in 'removing' the powered portion of the mic? Does it just unplug or do you have to 'get tech' and do something special?
-
Is there anyone here with the Trooper Com Interface? I need to pick up a mic for mine. I am guessing it probably doesn't need to be 'powered' because the unit already has a battery, right? If anyone has advice for me, please share. Not real good with the tech stuff.
