  1. @Scimitar there is no such thing as unsolicited advice on this thread! I need all the help I can get! Your comments and pics were super helpful.

Just so I'm clear, are you using that same nylon webbing for the straps that you are for the snap plates? I couldn't quite tell from the pictures.

Secondly, I haven't researched the shoulder pieces yet. I've noticed that you have some white material with the snaps. Is that elastic or plastic? I'm sure it will make sense once I get to that part!

We were all in your position once, and yes, there is a ton of information here.  Sometimes it can seem a bit overwhelming, but we are ready willing and able to guide you through it.

When it comes to an issue that you may have with your build, we never offer advice without a solution, and you are always welcome to contact any of us in the Deployment Office for specifics.  We are here for ya', sir.

Thank you friends! Seriously you all inspire me!

Seriously, I bought a welders shield and used that for the lenses and still have some left over, so I won’t use the piece that came with the kit. And I have painted everything, so I wont need the decals.

Alright dude, you are a scholar and a gentleman. I shall PM (or is it DM?) you

Let me know if you need a replacement for your lens. I did not use mine and would be happy to mail it to you. Same for the tube stripes and trap decals if you need another set.

You are super generous!  I wouldn't want to take your stuff, though, as I'm sure it's good to have backups, just in case!

Couple of quick things, Chris.  I know it's a pain, but the stripes really should be the "pencil width" from the cheek all the way back.  Don't despair, though!  It took me several tries as well.

As for the ear screw depth, you nailed it, and the alignment of the screws with the rear of the traps above them is SUPER nice!  :duim:

But... (don't hate me for this) the decals on the traps above the ears looks to be sitting too high.  The entire decal should sit within the raised ridges around it.

It should be pretty easy to peel them off (start from the bottom) and then re-apply a bit lower.  The first pic below is an AP bucket using the same exact decals as you did, so I would aim for that look.

You are doing the perfect thing by asking lots of questions and posting all the photos.  Keep it up, and know that we all had issues.. it can get frustrating at times I know, but you have an awesome "can-do" attitude so I expect great things from you!  :salute:

Thanks friend :) Yes, I couldn't tell if I stretched out the decals when I was putting them on, or just put them too high up.  I'll try to get them off (if I can) and reapply them.  If not, I may just paint.  I have to paint the rank bars anyway so I might as well get some more practice!

Thanks for the encouragement!  You all build my confidence.  Wish we could hang out irl!  (look at me getting all emotional)

  6. Great tips on aligning the stripes. If it gets to the point where I can't get Centurion because of it I'll fork over the $10 or so to get my third set lol

Guess I'll head to Amazon for some elastic now. I'll probably keep using the nylon for the snap plates since I have it. I think once they're glued down, I won't have the issue of them pulling out of the nylon. He said confidently.

Thanks for the help all, you guys keep me from throwing in the (very expensive) towel!

  7. I apologize for the constant despairing posts. I compare myself to other builds and everyone seems to be getting this more than I do. Anyway, I just put my second set of decals on the right side. Originally they were moving away on the front. This time they're moving away on the back. Sigh.

I was too worried about my lack of painting experience so I went with the decals where I could. Honestly, those were more of a pain to put on than I anticipated. I might take them off at some point and paint.

I've got a couple coats on the vocoder and one on the teeth. Let me know where I need to fix things. I bought an s-trim that I'll put on when I get the screws painted. Are the screws countersunk enough for Centurion?

The lens material got a couple small bends in it so I'm either gonna have to buy some new stuff or see if I can cut out enough of the existing for the eye holes and use the sugrue method.

  8. I did another set of snaps tonight. One of them was better aligned, the other was not. The problem I am having is that when I snap the two ends together they are so hard to pull apart. To the point where if I pull too hard the nylon starts ripping. I am using the line 24 Tandy snaps. While, I think it's great they are secure, it's not going to work if I can barely take them apart. Do you think that's the nature of the snaps themselves, or is it because I'm not setting them correctly? Or maybe it's the nylon I have is super crappy. I thought what I got was same as what others are using but maybe I cheaped out!

  9. So I've been doing some touch up painting on the helmet and will send pics later. I started practicing doing snaps. This is dumb.

First off, when I use my soldering iron to try and seal the edges of the nylon, it just makes a sticky mess and doesn't really seal them well.

Secondly, I put a few snaps on and , obviously I need to work on my alignment issues, but even then snapping the two sides together is super difficult and getting them unsnapped is just as hard! In fact, while trying to pull one of the snaps off, it just started tearing the nylon. I am using Tandy line 24 snaps. Just using the snap setting tools with a hammer to set them. Any tips? 3f3924fe5a5fe35b6ec4234051767c08.jpg

  10. Thanks all! You're fast with those references! Exactly what I needed. Definitely a learning curve for the painting. Using a toothpick seems to be helping with the edges. Also, got my new decals coming from Trooperbay as I couldn't cleanly take the other ones off!

Really, that Plastic Bonding System worked amazingly.

I spent a long while lining up the silicone on my glove where I wanted it, making fists and vulcan salutes and all sorts of things till I was sure it was in both a correct and natural fitting spot. I marked the edges of the white plate with a pencil on the gloves. And then I roughed up the back of the glove very slightly with some fine sandpaper. Probably around 400 grit.

I made sure the silicone was very very clean as it had picked up some junk and crap over the many fittings. I also cleaned extra sanded rubber off the back of the glove.

Then I followed the directions with the plastic bonder. I did most of the center area with the activator on both pieces of material, let it dry, and then applied the glue. Then I applied a paper towel to the top and a heavy book on top of that and let it sit a day.

The next day I inspected and saw what stuck and what didn't. I rolled the glove to the next position, lifted, primered, and re-glued. Then another day of pressure.

I think it took about 4 days of gluing to get every piece glued down. But they're VERY glued down. I probably shouldn't admit this, but I use my centurion gloves to protect my hands when boiling armor... and I've boiled quite a few pieces since installing those silicone plates with the plastic bonder. Nothing has come loose, even with repeated contact with boiling water and steam.

    Vulcan salute hahaha:lol:

I must be missing something. What white plate are you talking about? My kit came with the silicone and also some plastic guards but I just assumed it was so I had a choice. Do the plastic ones go on top of the silicon?? Applying these things is a lot more complicated than anticipated! Genuinely considering trying using Velcro. Then if I needed to replace my gloves it would be easy to switch out the guards!

  12. The other day I tried gluing one of the flexible handguards to the glove using E-6000.  Epic failure.  When I put the glue onto the handguard, it just rolls off.  I tried sanding it based on the instructions in one of the forums, but you can't really sand silicon or latex or whatever it is.  Any other suggestions?  Thought about maybe a different method like velcro or something!
